This is a wonderful story. Poor Esmerelda.

Wow!! I can hardly wait to see what happens to Esmeralda when Pippin is trapped beneath the troll? And besides that, how does Lotho secure control of Buckland? Please tell me, and soon!

A very good chapter. Very true to life how children often joke about things and don't realize how serious and frightening they can be to the adults. I also very much like Merry and Pippin's little Yule celebration, so touching and sweet.

This chapter was almost painful for me to read. I hate to see hobbits treated so horribly, but then it underlines the goodness and character of their allies. I felt like cheering for Butterbar and the ranger. I do hope the hobbits remember that there is some kindness in the big people and that in turn the big people don't forget their hobbit comrades as things grow worse.
I'm very eager to see more.

I like very much the way you've chosen to illustrate the take-over of the Shire by showing it to us from the point of view of the hobbits experiencing it "in the moment" in that it's not exactly sudden and dramatic but rather gradual yet with bad feeling attached all the way. I'm curious to read on and see if there will be more interaction between Paladin and his sister. I'd be interested to see them come together on their thoughts.

Oh, Pearl, I don't know how I got so behind on this story. It seemed to me there was only one chapter I hadn't read yet and now I find there's three!
My apologies for not reading and reviewing sooner, but anyway, now I guess I get to be spoiled and read three in a row :)
And a lovely spoiling it is. This story is just marvelous. The events are very fresh and touch on things I've never seen anyone do before. And Esmeralda is fascinating. I'm so interested to see more of her visions and her connection with M&P. Your portrayal of her is unique and captivating.
Particular to this chapter, too, I have to point out how well done the dream sequence was. It really had that feeling that dreams do and writers are seldom able to capture that. I absolutely felt was Esmeralda was feeling: the dreamy pleasantness, the foreboding and lastlty the horror. Very powerful stuff.
