Just A Cold  by Aelaer 69 Review(s)

Poor, poor Aragorn - it seems as if the Powers really dislike him... at least this day!

I laughed out loud when he thought of Arwen's response to his appearance... and then Faramir's! :-)

It appears our King has a mean streak or mischivious streak about him - the poor guards. Scalawag! I ROTFL when they responded to his presence!

Great chapter - I'm glad Arwen was not too caustic in her remarks. Though I had hoped she might have removed his boots????

As for the 'guard' - thanks for having someone tail him. It seemed appropraite and I hope they're not in trouble.

Lovely tale all the way around. Based on such a simple thing as a cold.... well, simple until one nasty sinus infection knocks you for a loop!

Great ending!

I particularly liked Arwen quoting Eowyn and I would have loved to see the faces of the two guards when Aragorn revealed his identity :)

Oh, I don't know, the deleted scene is believeable, I have read much worse, all except for the gold coin, silver would have been more appropriate, think of the 36 silver pennies Butterber gave Merry for the ponies!
More please,
Lynda

Wonderful wrap-up! Arwen had her say, and Aragorn finally got to bed. He still will have a lot to say when he wakes.
Eowyn is perfectly right. *grins stupidly* Now you are right also: of course Arwen and Aragorn would have some... issues.
I enjoyed this story immensely! And thanks for the extra scene.

It's wonderful to see the love (and fussing) between these two. And I'm glad Aragorn is safely tucked into bed. :)

Sometimes RL gives one the best ideas for stories, doesn't it? Glad you didn't have to fight off ruffians when you were ill ;-)

The deleted scene made me smile. Oh yes, Aragorn must have had a hard time to keep from laughing aloud! It's fun to imagine the face of the innkeeper when he finally realised just *who* this stranger was after this conversation!

Lovely story - thank you!

That went surprisingly well for Aragorn - Arwen was rather understanding, all things considered, and I was glad for it, as he's already not well and a serious talking-to wouldn't help just now. And I was glad she understood that he sometimes simply has to escape the restraints of his office and to be only one person among many. Though I felt a little bit sorry for the guards who tried to protect him and were tricked once again ;-)

And I am very satisfied to know that he'll make the ruffians pay for the damage! They certainly deserve it.

It's good to see Elessar hasn't gone all soft sitting up in the White Tower. Good for him to stretch his legs and refresh his bar-fighting skills once in a while. Although it is somewhat embarrassing to be handcuffed by your own guards.

it was going to be rather difficult to explain this to his wife.

LOL, no doubt!

I loved the moment when his guards recognized him. They must have seen their lives flash before their eyes. Oh, well, all except the one who decided to interrogate him, that is. Nice kid, if a bit on the cheeky side. I really liked Aragorn's moment of disorientation, just before he realized that since everyone had figured out he was the king, he might as well start acting like one. I can totally see that happening. Oh, wait, I'm the king. Need to issue orders LOL. I'm really intrigued by this not-drunk guy with the sword-fighting skills and the bad attitude. I hope we get to find out what his deal is. Great chapter, Suvi.

Author Reply: Elessar, getting soft? Never! ... oh dear Elbereth, let that never happen! *shudders* My hero-worshipping may falter if I imagine him as soft. ;)

Bar-fighting is a required skill for any Ranger, king or no. After all, when you're a Ranger in a fan fic, there is just someone out there, waiting for you in a bar, ready to get you. Must keep those skills up to date.

Ah, yes, the seven nameless guards that were smart enough to keep their mouths shut. The last one, he really has no sense of self-preservation. I've met quite a few people like that, actually. Fascinating bunch. Luckily for him Aragorn is a decent guy.

Ahhh... well, I tried talking to him, myself. Unfortunately they didn't let me, due to Elessar's orders. So I'm not quite sure what his deal is, either. I'll have to ask Aragorn when he questions the man, though it may take a while to get answers...

Thanks for reviewing <3

Excellent chapter. Great fight! Good grief - I'm glad he got away uninjured. Can you imagine the ruckus that would face him if he had! Arwen and Faramir furious... not a pretty picture.

One little thing - I really can't see the guards leaving him alone after that.

But great tale!

Author Reply: Well, a few bruises here and there- but yes, for the most part, pretty well off. I suppose I'm not as mean as I thought I was ;)

Agape- your comment inspired an added scene in chapter five. Thank you!

Whoo hoo! Aragorn to the rescue - nicely written!

Oh - I've forgotten Arwen in the midst of the battle - great conversation between her and Faramir - it was delightful. And poor Arwen - well, she must have known what she was getting into when she married him!

Author Reply: True. After all, he *is* the heir of Beren and Luthien, and Earendil, and Elros, and Amandil, Elendil, and Isildur... and more royal Dunedain who certainly had a rather rebellious streak! They couldn't have survived so long otherwise ;)
