On and on he went until, to his horror, if was as if the sea fell away below him and all he could see about him was endless sky.

Oh, how wonderful! What an incredible experience, one we would all love to have. Cirdan's words to Aragorn were just perfect.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, shirebound; I'm so glad you enjoyed the ride! Yes, wouldn't it be great to be able to look into one of these stones and see Tol Eressea?

Oh fascinating topics here. The palantiri are one of those things that Tolkien creates and then tells us so little about, though they're full of potential. I like the idea that Aragorn came and looked in this one, worrying about what Arwen was sacrificing, but also preparing himself for his future.

And you do such a nice job with Cirdan. You have a knack for really looking at the bits and pieces Tolkien gives us and asking good questions about them and reasoning out the answers.

I also like the image of the long shadows in the grass.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Daw, for your kind words. I figured that if Aragorn had indeed come to Elostirion, he would have done so for a better reason than idle curiosity. This was actually a fascinating story to piece together, especially the workings of the Palantir.
And yes, searching out the answers is definitely what I enjoy most about writing these stories!
I'm so glad you liked this chapter, thanks for your review.
