Wherever the Prompt Might Lead  by Larner 228 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 2 on 12/2/2008
Oh, a brilliant plan! Was your prompt "bottle" or "battle plan"?

Author Reply: Yesterday it was bottle; today it's bottle and wharf. Apparently this is going to be additive this year! I don't know how much further I'll be able to follow this when it's additive. Interesting concept, to add another element each day!

I can't imagine how hard it was for the Hobbits when Frodo decided to sail with the Three Keepers. This captures their sense of melancholy very well, but also shows their ability to keep on living life with a sense of joy. Nicely done.

Author Reply: For all the joy they have in the life they live, a piece of each one's heart had to have sailed with him, after all.

Ah, I want to see the fight!! Very well written ... you managed in a very few words to convey the tension of those moments before a battle. Well done!

Author Reply: Thanks, Cairistiona. Was trying the Henneth-Annun list's Advent calendar prompts this month, and apparently it's an additional element every day. So now bottles and wharves will be appearing in every story somehow! GAACK!

*Sigh* You know, this is really nice, it is melancholy, but not too much so, and truly heart-warming.

Author Reply: Thank you so, Virtuella. And there's nothing wrong with moments of melancholy from time to time, as long as it doesn't become overwhelming. There is joy here, but the fulness of Sam's joy is never quite reached while he must be apart from the brother of his heart. I think. Had it not been for Frodo, it's likely Elanor would not have been born, and Aragorn would not have thought to give the Westmarches to the Hobbits, most likely, had he survived to become King, of course. And this is in sight of the Sea. Part of the hearts of all three of these went there with Frodo, after all.

Perfect! I doubt Frodo was ever far from any of their minds.

Author Reply: Oh, I agree, Inzilbeth. He was always a part of them now.

Perfect Larner. These two know Sam even better than his family about this.

Author Reply: Oh, indeed, in some ways; but then they share the same experiences as he does far more than his family does. All three of them have an important part of their hearts dwelling to the West, after all.

I like the idea of these three being there to dedicate the new smial, and together remember their beloved Frodo.

Author Reply: I can't imagine Elanor would agree to have the dedication of her new home without Uncles Pippin and Merry being there; and I can't imagine the three of them being that close to the Sea without having thoughts about Frodo.

Am glad you and I agree! Thanks for the feedback.

I shall raise my glass of orange juice to our dear ones since I don't drink anything stronger. :) To Frodo! And to Sam and to Pippin and to Merry! And everyone else!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I may get into the Chardonnay later tonight, and will second your toast. To the whole of the Fellowship!
