A Star in Midwinter  by Cairistiona 15 Review(s)

I really enjoyed this chapter. It made me laugh, not like on something hilarious, but on the relaxed atmosphere and feeling of familiarity. Loved the chickens, and the mention of Ivorwen's blankets and Halbaron, and everything! =)

Author Reply: Thanks, Mirach! Yes, it's definitely quiet humor here... although the chicken chase did smack a bit of the absurd! But catching chickens can be hard, especially one as ornery as Copper. Thanks for the review!

Wow, even though Halbarad isn't there, I want to kill him for freaking out Denlad. . .lol!

Aw, I hope to see Halbarad with his kids. :)

. . .Scary chicken. . . .

Awesomeness abounding!

Merry Christmas!

Author Reply: Thanks, MP! Yeah, Copper is a little scary, isn't she? I don't think I'd care to try to catch her or hold onto her. And I think Halbarad might not be too pleased to know his reputation as a kindhearted, huggable bear of a Ranger, *cough*, is being besmirched. *g*

Merry Christmas to you, too!

I have been enjoying this story very much, but I had to write because this last chapter was absolutely delightful. Denlad is actually going through some hard times, yet what comes through is the joy that the Dunedain are able to maintain.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm always grateful for the quiet readers, but it's a treat when I actually hear from one. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story... I do see the Dunedain as a people who have learned that joy does not arise out of circumstance but out of the condition of the heart despite the circumstance. There's much strength in that wisdom, if it can be found.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the story and thank you for leaving a review--it's always appreciated!

What a wonderful slice of Dunadan life! I can see poor Denlad, struggling with the damn chickens, and the wonderful relationship of Dirhael and Ivorwen with Halbarad's little one. And Denlad's wonderful personality, with his chickens, with his hosts... even with a little one. It must have been odd for him; as a child himself he was treated poorly by his peers.

Poor Halbarad, too, getting such a bad rep!! LMAO

Oh, just wonderful, I'm loving this!

Author Reply: Thanks, Marethiel! I'm glad you got some chuckles from this chapter... poor Denlad has a time of it with Copper; it's just a good thing Red is so calm! I'm sure you're right in that all of this is a little surreal right now, being so utterly different from his former life. It's probably just as well he can look at it all at times with a sense of humor! :)

Thanks for the review!

I'm glad Denlad has someplace to stay that's warm and loving, and where he'll eat and sleep well. What a dear young man.

Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound! I'm so glad you like my Denlad. :)
