The Cusp of Victory  by Kara's Aunty 53 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: 12 on 8/28/2010
It really worked!

But poor Frodo! He must be in terrible pain at the moment. And the Nazgul with him, which is at least one good thing.

Would Sam really have had the strength to take Frodo and jump with him in the abyss? That would have meant killing his dear master!

On second thought, I'm still not sure where Sam's latest attack will lead ...

Thank you for updating in lightning speed :-)

Author Reply: Hello Andrea,

yep, it really worked. And I imagine Frodo is in awful pain - but if it frees him from the One Ring, he may not complain too much.

Hmm. I don't really know if Sam could have killed his master. On the other hand (no pun intended), he knows how long and hard Frodo has fought the influence of the Ring, and ho remembers how disgusted Frodo was with himself when he snapped at Sam back in the Tower of Cirith Ungol while under the Ring's influence. He also believes that neither of them will make it out of Mordor alive - something even Frodo admitted to on the plains of Gorgoroth. Left with no other choice, he might very well choose his and Frodo's deaths by his own hand, rather than let the Black Riders finish them off - because death by Nazgul would see the One Ring delivered back to their master and result in the fall of Middle Earth.

Still, that's only a theory ;)

I'm just about to post the next chapter, so I hope you enjoy that too! Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

Holy water over the current greatest symbol of evil--MOST interesting! What a baptism this will be! How will the child of Fire encased in the metal of Earth react to the Water of Light? Bless him for the thought! Ulmo and Varda combined with the cooperation of Aule against Aule's former servant's creation!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

wow! I never thought of the desperate deed in those terms before: the Valar versus the One Ring through the mediums of the water of light and metal. Brilliant. You are so poetic, m'dear!

Glad you liked the twist. That's our Sam - always thinking on his toes (or his knees, in this case).

Thanks very much for R & R-ing,

M ;)

Wow! That was an unexpected use of the Phial!

Now I'm at that point again where everything seems to be possible, not for the first time in this story ;-)

I still hope for the best! Please update soon!

Author Reply: Hello Andrea,

Sam's use of the Phial caught me off guard at first, too. And now we'll have to wait and see if it will help him to get the Ring before the Nazgūl do, and thus save Frodo, or if the Light of Eärendil will do nothing more than make the Ring all nice and shiny-like ...

*snorts*

Thanks for R & R-ing, m'dear - I'm so glad you're enjoying the fic!

Oh, cool, cool, cool! That's our Sam! So inventive! I love that prayer. You better update sooner and I so appreciate that you have done so recently. This is such a neat story and I hope it wins a well deserved MEFA too!

Namarie, God bless, Your happy berry :)

Author Reply: Hello, cousin dear!

Oh, I'm SO excited that Sam's clever use of the Star-glass is going down so well! He's a flaming genius, methinks (though he'd never admit to it, bless him).

But what will happen to the Ring now? Does Sam even actually know? If he does, I wish he'd tell me, or I'll never get the next chapter up (no matter how quickly you want it).

*chortle*

Thanks for all the supportive feedback on CoV, and for your MEFA wishes! I'm so pleased you like it so much :o) I'll see if I can get another chapter up today (but I'll need to shuffle off and write it first ...).

Thanks for R & R-ing, Tooky Bloom/Slugger,

M ;)

Blast! But what good the Light here, in the heart of Sauron's own domain? Or does he plan to break the glass and use the shard?

Author Reply: Hello again, m'dear Larner!

very good question. What could the seemingly powerless Phial do in the heart of darkness?

Well, Sam knows what he hopes it will do, and I know 'cos he told me; so if you want to find out, the next chapter is now up and may give you some answers :)

I'll give you a hint, though - he's no, Sam! Geroff me! Mmf mmf mmf - fine! I won't tell her. Happy now? Crikey! Mad hobbit! ...

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

Well, one good bite deserves another?

Sorry--couldn't resist that one.

And the sacrifice turns out to be the one originally demanded, only the officiant changed. Quickly, Sam!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

*chuckles* You're quite the comedienne! I liked that.

... one good bite deserves another ...

*snorts*

But will the sacrifice really be the same as what it appears to be? Maybe. Maybe not ...

Thanks for R & R-ing,

What a turn of events! Turn, Sam--turn! Too bad Frodo's leg allows him at least this much movement!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

oh, I know, I know! But Sam couldn't have willingly inflicted more serious damage on Ring-Frodo because he knows his master is still in there somewhere. Which may have been a mistake ...

Thanks for R & R-ing, m'dear!

At least he has a plan and a means to accomplish it! And the thoughts on the magma below--they make me shiver!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

nasty magma, eh? Grr! Still, if it ends up destroying the Ring, it's all good.

If it ends up destroying the Ring ...

But Sam has a plan, so let's hope it's a good one, and that Sauron's Folly will melt before the hour is out!

Thanks for R & R-ing, m'dear. Always a pleasure to hear from you!

Very good! It would not have felt right if Sam had bitten Frodo's finger off like Gollum. At least Sam has remained the sensible hobbit he always was. (Not that Frodo is responsible for the state he is in! That's all the Ring's doing.)

So, he's trying to use the Phial of Galadriel against the Ring? In the darkest of all places where Sauron's power is strongest? That is going to be very interesting!

AntaneReviewed Chapter: 9 on 8/25/2010
I knew Sam would think of something! Of course who knows where this will lead, but hopefully yet another way of evil defeating itself. The Ring indeed is glorying in all this and just waiting for the master to return.

Namarie, God bless, your bloom :)

Author Reply: Hello Slugger!

*sniggers*

Sorry, couldn't resist ...

But you're right: that nasty Ring is having the time of its miserable life, pitting the friends against each other - something it seems to enjoy doing, given Gollum's history. But will its devious machinations be enough to secure its survival until help arrives? Or has it actually been silly enough to underestimate the will of an irate Gamgee?

Thanks for R & R-ing, Tooky bloom!

Cousin Mo ;)
