Bilbo's Shire, A to Z  by Larner 81 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: 4 on 6/7/2010
Dora certainly got it right, here! I'm glad she saw that special spark in Frodo (and I've no doubt she had no illusions about his "innocence" -- I'm sure she included choice passages in her instructions on bringing up young hobbits that dealt with correcting antisocial behaviour such as stealing mushrooms...) and I'm very glad she prompted Bilbo to Do the Right Thing.

Lovely!

Author Reply: You are likely right, Lindelea. Heh! And she will feel a sepcial satisfaction when she knows he's finally Done the Right Thing and fetched the lad home to Hobbiton once more! Heh. And thanks so for the MEFA nomination!

Well, Dora won't be able to say Bilbo never took her advice.

[What difficult choices you have, being limited to only one alphabet on this subject!]

Author Reply: She will be certain that she was his inspiration this time, of course. Heh!

This will be a fun series I think, especially I hope when we get to F! :) :) I would have the same priorities as that child. Ah, to be able to do nothing but read and write all day - that is a true vacation for me.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: We are getting there, Antane. A few more days, and we will reach F indeed! Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks so!

A lovely account of how Bag End came to be!

Author Reply: Thank you so, Linda.

I guess Bilbo Would have had far more time for Pippin who would only have been a small child when he left. You never know when an adventurous streak will appear in Hobbits!

Author Reply: And particularly in those who are Tooks! Heh!

Thanks so, Linda.

That's lovely! I like to imagine that this was a very happy marriage.

Author Reply: I'm certain it was, Shirebound. Thank you!

Once again, well done!

I do love Bungo's pride in the new smial! And the thought that his father-in-law-to-be provided the funding...I've seen that before, it was in another of your stories, was it not? I think it's a wonderful idea! Clever Old Took, can't get much past him. :)

Kaylee!

Author Reply: And thank you for all, Kaylee! As for Gerontius having provided the funding, I was working there right from "The Hobbit," where it indicates that the smial was in part built using her money. No, can't get much past old Gerontius! Heh!

O well done Larner! I do love Adalgrim and Bilbo's conversation here. :) Yes indeed, Paladin is a fine Hobbit and will make a fine Thain, a worthy successor to old Ferumbras. Well done as always!

Hello Larner,

sweet drabbles! Particularly the second one. Bag End is a clear, and magnificent testimonial to Bungo's love for Belladonna. But not only to their love - to the love that all its future Masters would show either their adopted sons, beloved gardeners, or many (many) children.

Thank you for this,

M :)

BtW: Thank you very much for nominating 'Wrath of Light' for a MEFA. The fact that the great Larner herself thinks it fit enough for consideration will be more than enough to keep me happy, whether or not it wins!

Author Reply: Bag End as a symbol of the love held by its Masters for those they cared for most deeply--what a wonderful testament to its greatness! Thank you so!

And it's my pleasure! You have me blushing!

P.S. Do you mean Ferumbras?

Author Reply: And thanks for the catch--I didn't think to use my spellchecker on a simple drabble, of course! Heh!
