Snowfall  by sheraiah 26 Review(s)

I'm loving your new story. As was mentioned before, it's not often that we see Dwarfs as main characters who are dealing out the healing and comfort.
I'm also intrigued about Legolas's condition. It almost seems as if he had provided healing for Gimli and in turn weakened himself to near death. Can't wait to read the next chapter. I'm sure Gimli will get to the bottom of what's going on with the Elf.
Peace.

Great start to this story. You don't see too many stories with dwarves as the main characters, and these are characterized really strongly. Legolas is too, despite being out cold for much of the story. I like the backstory of the sons of Elrond making Legolas sleep after the Black Gate. Really, there are lovely details in here throughout that make the world feel real.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! It's been a long dry spell, but I finally feel like my muse has returned.

Dear Sheraiah: This is great! Both Legolas and Gimli seem completely in-character, the Dwarves sound and behave as I have always imagined they would, and the plot tension is very well written in that no one seems to know how to help a sick and wounded Elf. Fantasy story or not, it strikes me as realistic that none of the Dwarves would know much about how to treat sick Elves, as by this Age, it would have been a long time before the two races had much contact with each other. And what limited contact they would have had would probably not have been positive--for example, the contact between Thorin Oakenshield's people and King Thranduil in "The Hobbit." There is opportunity for h/c here, and I hope you will develop that. I am also interested in what will happen next, which is a sure sign that a writer is doing a good job! Please post the next chapter soon. Take care! Sincerely, Darkover

Author Reply: Thanks! Although I think that relations between the Dwarves of Erebor and the Elves of Mirkwood improved after the Battle of Five Armies somewhat, they probably were at least still a bit wary of each other.

Chapter 3 will be up in a few days.

What an excellent start. I do like the way you have written the relationship between Legolas and Gimli through both these opening chapters. What an excellent contrast between Legolas in the snow and then ice-cold, almost abandoned by the dwarf sentries, in chapter two.

I am already very taken with Gimli's kith and kin, too. I am really looking forward to the next chapter.

Author Reply: Thank you! Of all Gimli's kin, Naris speak the loudest to me. She features heavily in Chapter 3, which will be up in a few days.

Oh dear, things really aren't going well. You show the dwarf healer and carers very well in their concern and confusion about *how* to treat an elf.

Despite the seriousness of this chapter, my favourite line is this one:
“Naw, he doesn't weigh more than a feather, but he's all bloody legs,”
LOL!!

Author Reply: Thanks! Boys of any race will be boys, it seems to me.

What a gorgeous opening scene of Legolas in the snow! I can see him so clearly there. I like Gimli's fond exasperation too. I'm looking forward to the rest of this!

Author Reply: You'd never guess that I *hate* snow by that scene, would you? Thanks! Chapter 3 will be up in a few days.
