In the Mind's Eye  by shirebound 24 Review(s)

I love this story. The idea of the Nazgul slipping into Aragorn's mind as spy was nasty. Luckily, Aragorn has good and powerful friends that could fix this mess without killing him.

Author Reply: I'm happy you enjoyed this story. It was a strange little idea that just demanded to be written!

“If the only residual effect of my misadventure is being hungry as a hobbit for a time,” Aragorn said, “I suppose I can endure it."

LOL!!! There are worse things indeed!

Great ending, shirebound. I liked this story very much.

And happy Anniversary! I'm glad about the Internet for it led me the way to you and your beautiful stories :-)

(The first review I ever wrote was to one of your stories.)

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea. I feel as if I've known you forever! It's always such a joy to know that you're reading and enjoying the stories.

First -- congratulations. Ten years are too short a time... I'm looking forward to at least another ten.

Second -- this was an imaginative and well-written tale. Though I have been writing tales of Men for a long time, I have never ceased to be in love with Sam's values. You write them so well. I can see the Shire, even when they're not there.I particularly loved Sam and Frodo in this tale.

I have heard rumors that Arwen was able to 'be' with Aragorn as he traveled on the Quest. The last two chapters make it seem quite plausible that these two were connected more than we might have first thought.

Bravo. Well done. Looking forward to the next tale from your prolific mind.

Author Reply: Thank you! I appreciate your kind comments very much. Ten years, it's amazing! I'm grateful to have been able to come up with original story ideas for so long.

Bless the Professor for giving us this tidbit from ROTK: Arwen remained in Rivendell, and when Aragorn was abroad, from afar she watched over him in thought. A brief passage like that opens the door to so many possibilities!

This has been a lovely story and I'm sorry to see it end. I especially enjoyed your Aragorn and Arwen scenes. Congratulations on 10 years of writing and wishing you many more.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! :)

Well, being as hungry as a Hobbit isn't a bad thing to be! And love the ending, with Arwen realizing their bond is now strengthened after the Hobbits are issuing orders regarding his resting! Yes, I can see all of this! Good to see this complete. But I always love your stories.

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm glad this rings true, and that you enjoyed the story.

Oh, anytime Aragorn is about to fall on his face, that is awesome!!! I have to admit I did adore his shakiness here. And good grief---going on patrol so soon after being so ill? Yes, sounds just like Aragorn.

The hobbits are simply adorable, as always. I sure wish I had them here to look after me. *sighs* I so enjoyed them commanding Aragorn to rest and take it easy... better not mess with those hobbits when they mean business!

And of course, I really enjoyed Glorfindel in this story and am so glad he made a reappearance---it tied the story up so nicely. And sleeping Aragorn... what a nice picture. :) I'm sorry to see the story come to an end, but it's been a lovely journey.

Happy 10th Fic Anniversary!!! I'm afraid I didn't keep track of mine... I think it was in February. I wish I had, now. However, my 10th LJ anniversary is coming up and it's hard to believe that many years have passed. Wow.

Here's to many more years! *raises a piece of lembas and a glass of miruvor*

Author Reply: *shares lembas with you and clinks glass*

Thank you, Lily. Aragorn's weakness was one last gift for you. I really loved writing this story, and the fact that you enjoyed it is the icing on the seedcake. :) You're one of my earliest inspirations for h/c fic, and I'm so glad we're both still inspired by it all.

I love the hobbits taking over Aragorn's healing like so many little Jewish mothers. (-:

And their tact--"you don't look too bad considering"--ahahaha!

That was a great lead in for setting up Arwen's dream connecting with Aragorn for the movieverse. Great story, my friend!

Author Reply: I love it when the hobbits can be caregivers for their dear friends. They have their own special 'magic'.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I had a wonderful time writing this story.

Aww, what a hobbity and happy ending, full of cccccccc and no h at all!! Thanks for this marvelously imaginative story.

AND HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! I'm so glad you're still loving and posting fics about our dear hobbits after 10 years!! Here's to 10 more at least!! *toasts you*

Author Reply: Yay for hobbits, happy endings, and ccccccccccc!

Thank you for that wonderful and hopeful toast. *clinks glass with you* I hope we're both loving and creating in this world for as long as Eagles fly and hobbits live joyously in the West.

That was a lovely and fitting end to this story! I'm very sorry to see the tale end but what could be better than a story that ends with a peaceful Aragorn, sleeping and dreaming sweet dreams in the sun with his love there beside him. *happy sigh*

Author Reply: High praise from an Aragorn writer! That image makes me happy, too. It took me a very long time to write stories in which hobbits were integral, but not the complete focus. Goodness, I'll miss writing this story.

Happy anniversary, my dear! Thank you for such a sweet gift! I think Gandalf may have it wrong when he said one should have a hobbit in his care, more correct would be one should be under the care of a hobbit or two or three or four... :)

You know you could do a epilogue and have them fussing over getting him ready to go out and watching over him especially carefully in the first stage of the Quest... just a little bunny looking hopefully at you...

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Having hobbits in our care (or being under the care of hobbits); how lovely that we can imagine so many scenarios on this theme!

Thank you for your kind words, and the little bunny. You never know... :)
