Ivory outpaced ebony as Asfaloth streaked along the last lap of the Road

Great image! I like it very much.

And what a contrast! It seems that Asfaloth still has a large amount of energy available and can't wait to fool them more.

Author Reply: Hello Andrea,

I'm glad you like that line in particular. Initially I thought it might seem a bit too pretentious, but the contrast between the shining purity of Asfaloth and the corrupted steeds of the Riders' won out in the end. I do feel really sorry for the wraiths' horses, though - those once-magnificent beauties should be grazing safely on the lush plains of Rohan, not carrying the foulness of Mordor on their backs.

Poor wee horses!

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

And well he did! Bless the Elf horse, bearing such an important rider!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

a precious burden indeed! And a very blessed horse - his best pal was the very dishy Glorfindel ...

THanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

harness bells rang in wild defiance of screeching Riders

I like your imagery. You say so much with so few words!

Author Reply: Hello shirebound,

thanks very much. That particular line gave me problems, because I wanted to write 'melodious defiance' (in contrast to the unearthly screeches of the Nine). But in the book, they're described at that point as being 'wild and shrill', and to use melodious when they were clearly anything but (at that point) might've seemed like downplaying the gravity of the situation too much.

*shrugs*

Still, I'm glad the alternative worked as well for you as it did! Thanks for R & R-ing,

M ;)

Ah, yes, Asfaloth! Well drawn, especially his determination and defiance.

Author Reply: Hello Lindelea,

he is a remarkable steed, isn't he! Just wish PJ had had Glorfindel riding him in the films ...

*sigh*

Thanks for R & R-ing,

Another sweet little vignette, my dear cousin! It is nice to see you around a little more often. Hope springs eternal that more will be coming. :)

Namarie, God bless, Your bloom :)

Author Reply: Hello smelly bloom,

I was going to tyoe fragrant bloom, but 'smelly' made me smile more ...

*chortles*

It's nice to be seen, I must admit, though you might still have a wait on your hands for a new chapter of you-know-what. That fic demands more attention than I can give it just now, and I'd rather not make a mess of it in my haste to post a new chapter. Rest assured that I shall get back to it, though! Glad you're enjoying these wee offerings in the meantime!

Thanks for R & R-ing, cuz.

You paint such vivid pictures in my mind, with your unkempt figure gesticulating wildly, and the silent soaring... Thanks!

Author Reply: Hello again Lindelea!

Well I'm really pleased you're enjoying the drabbles so far. And the choice of words :o)

Thanks very much for R & R-ing,

M ;)

I love your way with words. raised a fist which flowered open and Bill-to-be are wonderful turns of phrase!

Author Reply: Hello Lindelea,

thanks very much! Did Bill(-to-be) some good to see a raised fist in a positive light. At least we know he'll always be happy from then on.

Well, apart from that infamous flight from the Ring-wraiths. And the equally frightful encounter with those hungry wargs at Moria ...

Ahem.

Thanks for R & R-ing,

What a fantastic idea for a series! Sweet Bill, so sad to think animals were abused even in Middle-Earth. And the Eagles have long been a favorite of mine. I wish we knew more about their society.

Thanks for the great stories, I'll look forward to seeing more when you add them! I'm so happy I found your works.

Have a great day!

-Kevana

Author Reply: Hello Kevana,

it is a pity they didn't have the Middle-earth SPCA to look for those poor abused animals. Still, at least Bill had Sam. And lots of kind-hearted (and, frankly, quite yummy) elves to soothe his many injuries.

The Eagles are fascinating. Don;t think Tolkien elaborated too much on their race, but I do recall stumbling across a fanfic that explored their society in a bit more depth (it was really good, too). Naturally, I read the fic so long ago that I can't remember what it was called or who wrote it ...

*sheepish smile*

Thanks for R & R-ing, and for your lovely feedback!

"Most assuredly not the view,"

Great reply!

And I like the choice of words in this drabble.

Author Reply: Hello Andrea,

crikey! I didn't realise I forgot to reply to this review - I'm so sorry!

Ah, Gandalf's so droll. Even when his life's in peril, there's still a hint of acerbic wit about him. Which is nice, 'cos it helps to lighten up an otherwise very dramatic moment!

Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks very much for R & R-ing, m'dear.

Hooray! I love Gwaihir! A good exchange.

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

thanks very much! Gwaihir is magnificent, and really very noble and brave. He deserved a chapter honouring him, methinks!

Thanks again for R & R-ing,

M ;)
