Elf Academy 4 - The Unfinished Tales  by Fiondil 23 Review(s)

I am getting some really bad vibes from this chapter, this time slippage of Glorfindel's is to quote an Istar,'Not good, not good at all!'

I am really hoping that this all turns out to be a trauma induced coma/hallucination on Glorfindels part, all this death and destruction just does not sound right, there are red flags popping up all over the place. Has nobody noticed just how out of it Glorfindel is?

Checks blood pressure meds, inserts mouth guard (teeth grinding is not a good thing) and goes back to knitting.

A shot of some thing alcoholic would not hurt.

Ooo, checks crock pot to see how chili is doing.

I read this at work before work started this morning and have not had time to get back to a review until now. I just can't believe that all of this is happening. Gorfi must be hallucinating all of this. That would explain the memory lapses and time shift problems he's having. I just don't get it otherwise.

Maybe the brothers were with the Templar's on the Crusades but the number people, mortal and elf, that have gotten knocked off in this chapter alone just does not add up. We at the cliff house should be making a care package for Gorfi even as he's being treated in Wiseman for what ever mental attacks he's suffering from the enemy!

Say it ain't so, we can't lose Derek and Alex (not to mention Felicity and the baby) now.

There is a very surreal atmosphere to this chapter. I’ve begun to have doubts about most of the events in this chapter. I don’t believe Alex, Felicity and Derek are dead. Glorfindel appears to be the victim of some elaborate mind game by the enemy to cause him to lose his hope and spiral down into despair and defeat.

I was reading this chapter, taking SERIOUS notes here for remarks... only Kaylee beat me to the punch! Attagirl Kaylee!

This has serious Sci-fi written all over it. I'm going to speculate way off the cuff here and say ALL but the first chapter is a fake! Some sort of lesson or message?

My reasoning is simple (see Kaylee): Edhellond goes BOOM! I mean, where's the preamble, where's the set up. Fiondil, dear beloved, would NOT just leap in that way sans setup or if he did, bringing some clue to the fore. It's his style. So I'm thinking this is all some attack in the main at least against Glorfindel, who is the main point-of-view through these chapters.

As it is, I nearly fainted over Barahir et al, but after a near heart-stoppage over the Dynamic Duo plus 1 supposedly drowning in a lake.. uh, no. Just no. The evidence says otherwise. So I'll just have to sit back, sip tea *OH! gets up, fills tea and coffee canisters, loads the bread box with fresh scones, drops off the jar of local apiary honey*, and wait for the revelations.

To our Beta Amigas, I offer hugs and deep bows for all the hard work. You ladies rock!

Well, things are getting weirder and weirder...

The Enemy attacks, but who is he attacking? The 'victims' or Glorfindel's mind? The more I read it, the more I'm inclined to believe the later. Everything is happening only from Glorfindel's perspective and all the talking about the terrible events are being said to Glorfindel, and the first exchange between him, Finrod and Daeron showed how what Glorfi heard them saying doesn't have to mean they were saying it an sich.

And I certainly refuse to believe Alex and the others are dead! After all the character build up on him (most of EA2 was basically this) to have those three die in just a few sentences, that never was Arthur's style...and Alex escaped death twice now. Having him die in an accident...Alex is more the kind to go out big...

No something is really wring with Glorfindel here....
As a few more, I've been wondering weather this is all real as well. It could be 'all just a dream' or vision from Glorfi's side just as well. He was having nightmares at the end of EA3.

I liked the part with Charles Waverly. And I think the part of 'They are only alive if you believe they are alive.' might hold a significant value here...
If Charles truly is dead as well (and this seems to make more sense than the other deaths to me), then it saddens me, for he was the kind of priest I would have liked to have at my parish. And through him, and the questions I pestered Arthur about him, I discovered we do not only share the same faith, but also a lot of views on it, which meant a lot to me.

Last thing to say is how if Glorfindel is in this state, this almost screams trouble for retrieving this talisman...
And wether this object really will be as helpful/innocent as they expect it will be.

Oh, and I forgot who posted mentioning the vision of Alex and Derek fighting together in the upcoming war, but this happened in EA2, and it was Amroth having this vision while watching the Terrible Two and their fellow students during a snowball fight...

It's at times like this that I really miss Fiondil. I would have asked him why he killed off Darin, Alex and Felicity.

I'm beginning to wonder if anything beyond the Templar chapter is real. Glorfindel may be undergoing an extensive and elaborate educational dream to prepare him for the likelihood of something happening without him living the time required so that he can come up with alternatives in time.

What is going on here? Have someone started slipping magic mushrooms into Glorfindel's morning coffe, or something like that? The way Glorfindel's mind is, well, glitching, is weird and really worrying.

Atya, Beta Amiga nettenyar,

No. Nonononono. *brain threatens to go into full-blown panic mode but Kaylee clamps down firmly on panic*

*borrows 'ex-spy, excuse me, Intelligence Officer' hat and puts on*

Right. What would Alex *stifles a sob and pushes on* do in this case?

Item: Title of chapter was 'The Enemy Attacks'. Therefore I KNEW this would be bad.

Item: Glorfindel has been suffering from SOME sort of attacks since the beginning of this story and probably longer, though I will need to rely on fellow Fiondilie to come up with the proper citations. *looks around Cliff House for the rest of Fiondil's People*

Item: No news came. None. From anyone. That is not good. It sounds like one front of the Enemy's attack is severing communications, isolating the Elves from one another entirely so that all they have to go on is hearsay. Which, to be frank, is what I would expect an enemy, nevermind THE ENEMY, to do. Divide and conquer. Safety in numbers after all!!

Item: Finrod suddenly states 'you will not be able to get through' then immediately denies saying any such thing. Either Glorfindel was tricked into hearing things that no one said, or someone (or Someone) briefly used Finrod in a way only Glorfindel could discern. Either way, I don't like it.

Item: On-cue thunderclouds are NEVER a good sign. Ew.

Item: Gilvegil (apparently) sent a text that Barry and Conan died in a freak car accident. "A car accident, kill Barahir and Cennanion?" to half-quote my favorite half-giant from my other favorite fandom. No, I don't think so. Why Barahir, why Cennanion, and how can they be sure Alphwen and Eirien are fine?

Item: Alex, Alex Alex! LAKE PLACID?! You take your gwador and your wife to Lake Placid??? We're not just talking Olympics here, Mr. Ex Intelligence Officer! Lake Placid has been known to harbor monsters!! What about the Balrog in Wild Lake??? Hmm? Maybe it has a cousin?!

Item: The three Mortals die in a boating accident. A BOATING ACCIDENT. Derek the Navy man dies in a BOATING ACCIDENT. This ALL smells very fishy and I don't just mean because of the lake water.

Item: ROY identified the bodies? Roy? How the heck did Roy get called first? Something is going on here.

Item: Father Charles? Died from a heart attack in the intervening Three Years we missed out on? What??? WHAT??? What about Daniel? What about Josiah? Oh, Preacher Amigos, where are you...Whatever happened, it seems someone is 'borrowing' him to help sort out Loren.

Conclusion: (to the relief of Atya, Beta Amiga nettenyar, and fellow Fiondilie alike I am sure) SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH GLORFINDEL. I don't even just mean these time slip things. I'm beginning to question if ANY of this has actually happened. Other than the Templar Incident I mean. Is it possible Wiseman is untouched and this is all in Glorfindel's head??

I cannot believe that Alex, Derek and Felicity are dead.

I feel that Alex deserves some happiness after all he did for his country.

I keep feeling that Glorfindel has gone down with some dreadful illness, and these are his fever dreams; the enemy has attacked him this way, to try to destroy all hope for him, so that he can no longer lead his friends in the battle against the enemy, thus destroying hope for mankind.

And I bet Vorondur turns up wanting to know why they haven't kept in contact.
