An Alphabet Book for the King's Children  by Larner 160 Review(s)
harrowcatReviewed Chapter: 22 on 12/26/2016
Larner, you truly have a positive knack for picking up on details the good Professor sprinkles liberally around and find ways to explain or expand on them. Of course that is why Pippin is on a different hill to Aragorn and Gandalf where he just might have been a tad safer. Although I wouldn't have wanted to try and explain it to Merry or Frodo. (🎶Innocently sends plot Bunny on it's way with a good store of carrots.)

Silly sentence to follow. It is 11.30pm and my brain is tired.😴💤

Author Reply: I felt this might be part of the reason why Pippin chose to stand there, but I also felt both Pippin and Beregond might have been feeling rather fatalistic at that point. Beregond had a good chance of facing execution or total exile when he got home; Pippin had just seen Frodo's mithril shirt and Sam's sword and whatever else the Mouth had in his hands at the time, and could well have thought that the Enemy had the Ring and the END was at hand anyway, so better to die swiftly than have it drug out.

As for that plot bunny you sent....

I suspect it is settling in well with those Tallis has sent me--it has plenty of company, at least. Heh!

Ugly, unlovable, ungentle Ungoliant - ugh!

I was just admiring the first star of evening tonight and then, later, standing outside in my nightdress while Shadow watered the grass, I admired the lovely view of the Hunter. This is one of the perks of living out beyond the street lights but is sometimes spoiled by so many neighbours with security lights.

Author Reply: If anyone deserved to be vanquished, I felt that Shelob's mom is one of them!

One of the reasons I live where I do is so as to look up at the stars at night and to rejoice in them--when they show, of course. It sounds as if there's a major windstorm going on out there tonight. Wouldn't be surprising to have the power knocked out within the next few hours. Last night the stars were gorgeous, but tonight they are obscured by flying clouds.

Time takes too many too soon with tactless tenacity. The tally is terrible but we thank the Powers for the texture they added to our lives.

I loved your last line. We will remember them.

Author Reply: How well you have summed it up. Thanks so, Liz.

Oops! Posted to the wrong letter, SORRY.

Author Reply: I'd realized it, but didn't want to say...

(Grinning wickedly!)

Saddened seafarers Sally forth on saltwater seas and scream as the sundering (t)sunami scours their Star Isle from sight. Succouring Middle Earth now their only safety and shelter..

I learned a lot from this page. Thanks Larner. One of these days I will make it through the Silmarilion.

Author Reply: Thank you so, although I believe some of this is contained in the Appendices. Heh! Reading the Silmarillion is a different enterprise from reading either Hobbit or LOTR, but worthwhile itself. Although you could also go through the Encyclopedia of Arda, where I often graze when I don't feel like skimming through the Sil.

Darn it. That was supposed to look like a heart. Hope the day has been a happy, and not too painful one.

Author Reply: Thanks so for the good wishes. It's been cold and windy, and on Christmas Eve I was stuck out on Highway 101 at midnight with the lights of my van focused on the tenant's pickup truck so he could change his tire without having to rely only on a little bitty flashlight. What a way to await the arrival of Father Christmas! Heh!

Well, that was extraordinarily clever :-)

Merry Christmas (or X-Mas) to you and your family!

Author Reply: Thank you so! No, for me I wish it spelled out properly.

Darned X....throws a wrench in everything! :-P Well played ....

Author Reply: That it does. Even in English we have to scramble to find good X words.

Thank you so much!

I used Semper Fi because I am a proud aunt of a Marine :)

Author Reply: Aha! Well, Semper Fidelis to you, too! My dad was Air Force, my brother Army, my younger brother, husband, brother- and sister-in-law Navy as was my husband, my stepdad was Navy....

Seems only the Marines aren't represented in my family!

Ha! This is probably my favorite of them all, and made me laugh out loud. Amen, Samwise! I really wonder why anyone would want to be a Dark Lord too (honestly, either in a Middle Earth sense or in a more prosaic, our world sense). Too much work and too many people wanting to see you defeated is definitely right... And anyway, I much enjoy my 'blessed obscurity' (as a friend once put it)....

Author Reply: Ain't blessed obscurity grand? Heh! Thanks so!
