| I do love puppies! :) Oh dear, I had forgotten all about Grima. Of course Éowyn would have had time to watch everyone closely, and begin to perceive a wrongness about him. Author Reply: Shirebound! | I love everything Eowyn does to ensure that her people are taken care of and also know that someone is looking out for them. And Holdlith's prediction is wonderful! :) Author Reply: Shirebound! Hello! I hope you are well! I was thinking about it and while it is clear when we meet Eowyn in TTT she described as stern and sad, it is also written that she was held in great love by the people of Edoras. Hama proclaims about Eowyn, "She is fearless and high-hearted. All love her. Let her be as Lord to the Eorlingas!" She clearly did not mope about in public about her lot, though it clearly ate at her soul. The people knew and loved her. So I thought that being among the people was in keeping with that. You'll notice that she knows everyone's name in the lower portions of Edoras. Holdlith's prediction was a bit of inspiration as I was writing the chapter! We all know what will happen but Eowyn doesn't at that point! :-) I had to think of a way to describe Faramir that was very accurate and yet vague! Had I always written of Faramir's appearance as written in the book I could have been even more vague said "grey eyes" which could have described Aragorn as well, but I had always been swayed by the visual in my stories and describe Faramir as in the film, the reddish blond hair and blue eyes of David Wenham! | What a shock, to discover that something you trained for was never to be yours. I can relate to that, in my own way, and you write it beautifully. Dear Gamhelm! I just love his wisdom and gentleness. Author Reply: Shirebound! So lovely to hear from you! Thank you! Éowyn most definitely has had a rough go in life up until she marries Faramir. She says so much when she says to Aragorn that she does not fear death only to be trapped a cage till old age accepts it. That is a frightening image to me and it says a lot about her life before the Ring War which is what I am trying to explore. In writing this story and everything that Éowyn will have to go through I keeping telling myself that she does get her happiness at the end of the story. I love Gamhelm! It is a happy chance that he was in the other chapters as Éowyn's confidante because as Demeter d pointed out she was so upset with her uncle, cousin and brother she would not have listened to them! So thankfully Gamhelm was there! With his wonderfully comforting and wise words. Otherwise not sure how this chapter resolves itself! :-) Stay Safe, Mellon nin! MM | |

| Poor Eowyn, my heart really breaks for her. Her only friend gone, her only dream about to be dissolved, adrift in a world from which she feels detached... *sigh* Author Reply: Shirebound! So lovely to hear from you! :-)) Yeah! I really feel for Eowyn. And it isn't going to get better any time soon either. But I tell myself, remember she does end up very happy with Faramir. As I have written about extensively. :-) Two people who so deserve the happiness they get! This story will eventually merge with "Bound by Duty; Bound by Joy" where they both get to be happy!! | UH - OH! The day of reckoning has arrived! At this point, someone should take her aside and remind her of what she has gained from her training, confidence, physical strength, etc. Unfortunately, it could not be any of the three in that room right now. I doubt she would listen! Oh, this is going to be good! The best part of any story where you already know the end is "how do you get there?" I will be watching to see how poor Theoden gets out of this. Author Reply: demeter d! Poor Theoden! He was trying to do the right thing by his angry seven year old niece! You are right. The most fun in a gap filling source story is writing about how they arrive at their destination. Unfortunately the road for Eowyn will get more rocky before it gets better. Which of course in Eowyn's case is being very happily married to Faramir, which I have written about extensively already! I am having a very good time writing this story. Haven't written it yet but yes, the three that she trusts most in the world, her brother, her cousin and her uncle are all complicit and it will be a while before she will forgive them. There is one other that she will probably turn to but I will save that name for the writing of the chapter! Thank you so much for writing and telling me what your reactions to the story were! | I do like the word "debristled"! What a lovely and loving relationship you show between Éowyn and Théoden. I've rather felt like 'the odd one out' for most of my life, so I sympathize with her! Éowyn's parting words for the lady, "Thank you for the fine cider and the good company", were so kind. Author Reply: Shirebound! So good to hear from you!! I might have even made it up but it just fit for what I needed to say at the time! :-)) I think many of us (myself most definitely included) feel like the odd one out. I wanted to write this chapter to show how Eowyn got on with the common folk that lived in Edoras. How she came to be well thought of by them. In Two Towers when Theoden is leaving Meduseld and the people talk of who they would accept as leader, 'I said not Éomer,' answered Háma. 'And he is not the last. There is Éowyn, daughter of Éomund, his sister. She is fearless and high-hearted. All love her. Let her be as lord to the Eorlingas, while we are gone.' The people loved her. She was kind and gracious and well thought of. In this chapter I attempt to show one of the possible reasons why. Thanks for writing! | Poor Éowyn, she's as "torn in two" as Frodo later became. Your details are wonderful, and this is one of my favorites here: Éowyn added butter to the hot pan and sat and watched it melt holding the handle of the pan with a holder which then reminded her over a particular grip of a sword that she and Théodred had been going over the day before and as she was pondering that, Thilda bellowed, “It is burning!” And poor Thilda, as well! Author Reply: Shirebound! Yes. Éowyn is living two lives. One she wants (and has talent in) and the one she is supposed to have. I think possibly the reason she is so bad at the "womanly arts" is that she has no interest in them and she is being forced. Thilda is also being forced to teach the girls on top of her regular job and probably accounts for her short temper. Éowyn had gotten to the point of wanting to die in battle at the Pelannor Fields and then she meets Faramir....awww! You're beautifully weaving together both canon and your own vision for this time in Eowyn's life. Author Reply: Shirebound! Exactly! Éowyn is ten and she has lost both her parents are ready.
