Awww. I *love* it when you write about Pippin! (I can just see him under the cake table... good spot to be. Lovely things to nibble on, right at hand if one should get peckish whilst listening to Birthday Speeches.) I love the last bit, too. I bet Pippin and Merry *would* have gone all the way to the Crack of Doom, if the Orcs hadn't taken them at Parth Galen. Author Reply: I just love uncovering the infinite layers of courage, devotion, innocence, practicality, and joy surrounding these particular hobbits.

I have to thank you again here for writing me such a sweet story. It's been so long since I read a Pippin-and-Gandalf tale, and this one brightened up my day so much. *hugs you* Author Reply: And what a pleasure to write this for you! *big hobbity birthday hugs*

So THAT's why Gandalf supports Pippin and Merry when Elrond ants to send them back to the Shire. Brilliant Shirebound. Author Reply: At last we know the reason! *giggles* Glad you enjoyed this.

How did I miss this delightful little snippit of a wandering hobbit? All I did was to drop in to your page for a coffee break filler instead of a biscuit and found this by chance. Much better for me! Author Reply: Tookish delights! A wonderful snack with your coffee. Thank you so much, harrowcat. :D

Yes, I do believe they are indeed in for trouble. Wee Pippin is so cute! Author Reply: Thank you! I have such a weakness for wee!hobbits.

Yes, they learned it from the very best--from Frodo himself! And excellent exercise, I know. Author Reply: I know, too! I've been going through hand and wrist exercises for a year now, and every little bit (or sponge) helps.

Aha! So THAT'S how it was done, is it? No, Gandalf isn't prone to the Took spell, is he???? Author Reply: Of course not! Well, not that he'd admit...

Trust a slightly tipsy Pippin! Oh, dear, and Gimli was just sharpening his axe, was he? Shall we see how well it shaves Hobbit feet? Author Reply: Sometimes it's more fun *not* writing a scene (such as 'what happens next...') than writing it! I'm sure Gimli will show admirable restraint. :D

Does he know what he's doing, sending that particular Hobbit child off to get cake? And that these two would get along so well from the start is only to be expected, I suppose. Author Reply: I always felt, from the way Tolkien wrote, that Gandalf had a special fondness for and relationship with the Tooks. I can well imagine that he'd keep his eye on them.

AAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Pumpkiny Pippin and splattered little Merry. Author Reply: *giggles* Just couldn't resist that image. :D
