Yes, it would be an awful choice, but a necessary one. And it appears he is beginning, finally, to come back to now. Love the writing.

Author's reply

Thanks!

Larner · 1 March 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Am so glad Frodo and Bilbo are there now. Bless the dear Hobbits.

Author's reply

Yes, they are a great help to the Tooks and Merry. Thanks.

Larner · 1 March 2005 · Chapter 8: PART EIGHT: Dreaming

Poor little Merry--prescient dreams on top of fever. I truly feel for the boy.

Author's reply

Poor lad, he is very ill now. Thanks!

Larner · 1 March 2005 · Chapter 7: PART SEVEN: Bath time

Oh, I love both story and the poem. How wonderful! Will try to read the rest soon.

Author's reply

Thank you! I shall forward your thanks to Mel too. :) I`m glad you are enjoying it.

Pearl Took · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 10: PART TEN: Getting worse

Wow!! what a ride!! This is so well done, Anso! The Hobbity love and care they all have for each other is wonderful!! :)

Author's reply

Thank you! I am very glad you are enjoying it!

Ariel · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 10: PART TEN: Getting worse

EEp! Poor Merry! A fever spike and an (obviously movie verse :p) dream! Poor little fellow. This was a very well done chapter - well paced and nicely orchestrated. Thank you!

Author's reply

Oh, thank you for such nice words! Yes, poor Merry. He is awfully sick now. And I`m not sorry to say that I like that, lol.

Mysterious Jedi · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 10: PART TEN: Getting worse

So did Merry remember this when these events actually took place? Good story, I'll be looking for more. (Yes, I'm greedy when it comes to fanfiction).

Author's reply

Thank you! i`m glad you are enjoying it. Hm... an interesting question there. I shall have to think about that.

Lindelea · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 7: PART SEVEN: Bath time

What a cute poem! I forgot to mention in the earlier chapter that I loved the phrase "brother of the heart". And Paladin and Eglantine as Merry's second parents sounds just right. Paladin is so wise and observant. I'm glad he noticed that things were not quite right. Uh-oh. This stiff neck does not sound good!

Author's reply

I seem to always link my stories together and I did write a story called "Brothers of the Heart" so it seemed just right to use the phrase here too. I think Paladin is almost as good a father towards Merry as Saradoc is and isnce Pippin and Merry spend so much time at the other one`s home they both get a second set of parents. And that stiff neck? Poor Merry, he is in for some more trouble now... :)

Lindelea · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 6: PART SIX: Letters and games

Oh, I'm glad you explained "farmers checkers"! I was wondering... So Merry is feeling better; that's a relief! But itchy, poor lad. It sounds as if Pippin is just the right tonic, neither encouraging Merry to do more than he ought, nor fussing at him because he's being so quiet, but letting him rest when he needs rest and being satisfied with quiet diversions. Looking forward to more!

Author's reply

I have to thank Mel for explaining that the game is called tic tac toe in English. At first I had a long description of it in the story as Marigold din`t know what I was talking about either, but when Mel gave me the right name I recognised it and thought others would too, but it was fun to stick to mhy own translation, bringing something new into the fandom, lol. I think Pip is too scared to do anything else than what his instincts tell him really, so that is why he is behaving so good. Thanks!

Lindelea · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 5: PART FIVE: Tonic and tea

The technician over-the-phone has me using the laptop to see about the overheating issue, and so I am stealing a few moments to read at SoA! Ah, what a lovely picture we have of Pippin caring for Merry, and it is delightful to see things from his young eyes, through his own experience with illness. One can almost see him screwing up his little face in sympathetic distress as Merry chokes down the foul-tasting medicine... And then his becoming "trapped" and unwilling to stir his cousin to pull himself free, and so heroic, what with being hungry and everything! Very nicely done, and I look forward to reading as much more as time and the technician will allow.

Author's reply

I`m glad your computer is working again. It`s no fun with computer problems. Little Pip is doing all he can for his dear Merry and he is very brave and quite a hero in doing so. Thank you!

shirebound · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 10: PART TEN: Getting worse

What terrible nightmares! I hope Merry's only memory, when he awakes, is of "a wonderfully soft pillow beneath his cheek and snug blankets tucked lovingly in about him." And all the love surrounding him.

Author's reply

yes the dreams are very bad. And of course, I can`t answer what happens when he wakes up. ;)

Dreamflower · 28 February 2005 · Chapter 10: PART TEN: Getting worse

You actually brought tears to my eyes with this chapter. Poor Merry! Poor Frodo and Pippin! Even though I know it has to turn out all right in the end, you have me worried. And I like Merry having the prophetic dreams. Can't wait for more...*have* to wait for more...

Author's reply

*dries your tears*^ Yes I like the dreams too, and since he is so very ill, it is more probable that he has them too. Yup, I`m sorry that you have to wait for more, but the next chapter is with Marigold but it shouldn`t bee too long.

Pipinheart · 27 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Poor Merry... He is so terrible sick. Everyone is worried, and Bilbo and frodo have arrived. Please continue, you even have me worried...Update soon...

Author's reply

Merry is very ill now, yes. But Frodo is there now. Thank you for reading.

Bodkin · 26 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Poor little Pippin. Although it's good to see some mother/son comfort going on! Frodo's arrival should help too. (I wonder if Merry'll have dreams about the Witch King and Eowyn.)

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and letting me know you like it! Yes Pippin is in quite some distress, but Frodo is there now.

Ariel · 24 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Oh, he's really sick - not even waking for Frodo. Oooo! *rubs hands in twisted anticipation*

Author's reply

LOL! Yes, Merry is quite ill now... :)

Andrea · 24 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Finally, Frodo has arrived! I think he will not leave Merry's side unless someone drags him away ;-) Merry as healer? I can imagine that! But for now, he himself needs a healer, and Daisy is a very good one. I like your description of her. Thank you for this chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you! I`m glad you like her. She does have Merry`s life in her hands I believe.

Dreamflower · 24 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Oh yes! Frodo is there! Now with both his beloved cousins, Merry should feel more secure--even if his sickness gets worse, he will know they are there and watching over him. I really like your Daisy; she's so competent and understanding. This is a wonderful story, Anso, so realistic in the way it depicts the household revolving around the sick one. Poor Saradoc and Esme. They are going to be frantic to get to Whitwell.

Author's reply

Thank you! I`m glad it is both realistic and that you like Daisy. She does have Merry`s health in her hands.

shirebound · 24 February 2005 · Chapter 9: PART NINE: Visitors

Pippin nodded and snuggled into his mama`s lap. He was safe here and mamas always knew best what to do when someone was sick, and Miss Daisy and his da were there. Surely everything would be all right very soon with so many people to help him take care of his Merry. Awwwwww! And now everyone Merry loves is there to watch over him. :D

Author's reply

Yes they are! :)

Bodkin · 23 February 2005 · Chapter 8: PART EIGHT: Dreaming

I wonder if Merry will remember these flashes of foresight. Poor Pippin is finding the strain rather too much to take at his tender age.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and letting me know you like my story! Yes this is a strain on poor Pippin. He`s going through a rough time, poor little one.

Larner · 23 February 2005 · Chapter 6: PART SIX: Letters and games

Following the story happily. Tic-tac-toe sounds like a good game for someone just starting to feel better.

Author's reply

Thank you! yes it`s a good game to play if you`re stuck in bed, isn`t it? I`m glad you like the story.

Pipinheart · 22 February 2005 · Chapter 8: PART EIGHT: Dreaming

Poor Merry he is in bad shape. Pearl is trying to help with the daily routine and she misses Merry Jolly self. I like Pearl here... The healer comes and Merry is unwell,he can't lift his neck, that can mean only trouble. Pippin is afraid he will die. Merry's Parents and frodo is on the way... Can't wait for more...

Author's reply

Yes Merry is bad off now, poor lad but he has wonderful helpers and his Took family does love hiim a lot. Thank you for reading!

Pipinheart · 22 February 2005 · Chapter 7: PART SEVEN: Bath time

Merry seems to be getting better,he had a bath to stop him itching. something changes and suddenly the tempeture is up again. His uncle stays up with him,and in the morning his Aunt notices Merry in pain as his neck hurts. A healer is searched out as everyone waits, Pippin tells a story to Merry,to try and help Merry... Love it...Please continue...

pipinheart · 22 February 2005 · Chapter 6: PART SIX: Letters and games

I love how you show the relationship betwee Merry and pippin. You can see Pippin is so concerned, and him so young he is afraid especialyy since the healer comes in...Poor Merry,so sick(Reminds me of chickenpox)Pippin and Merry playing a game of farmers checkers, a very nice story...Please continue...

Dreamflower · 21 February 2005 · Chapter 8: PART EIGHT: Dreaming

This chapter is so sweet and sad. Poor Merry, having prophetic dreams that he can't even begin to understand, and poor little Pippin, so horribly worried about his Merry. I like Merry having dreams. A lot of fics deal with Frodo's prophetic dreams, but I think that it would not be far-fetched if all three cousins did so. At least the three of them did in Tom Bombadil's house. Frodo, hurry up and get there. Your cousins need you...

Author's reply

Yes I like the thought of not only Frodo having prophetic dreams too. Merry is very ill now, but he has a wonderful family to help him and see him through, but poor Pip, yes. :) Thank you!

shirebound · 21 February 2005 · Chapter 8: PART EIGHT: Dreaming

We have to wait and SEE? I... um, I mean poor Pippin is never going to survive this. At least Merry is sleeping through most of the pain.

Author's reply

lol! A bit of angst for you there. Pip is going through a rough time now, but he will be all right as soon as Merry gets well. :)
