Tolkien quote of the day:

Then Amandil said farewell to all his household, as one that is about to die. 'For,' said he, 'it may well prove that you will see me never again; and that I shall show you no such sign as Eärendil showed long ago. But hold you ever in readiness, for the end of the world that we have known is now at hand.'

It is said that Amandil set sail in a small ship at night, and steered first eastward, and then went about and passed into the west. And he took with him three servants, dear to his heart, and never again were they heard of by word or sign in this world, nor is there any tale or guess of their fate. Men could not a second time be saved by any such embassy, and for the treason of Númenor there was no easy absolving.

While I'm not writing new material at present, I went to a "green concert" last night, and it made me want to post something in honour of those who wear the green. This ficlet is part of a larger work, unfinished and unpublished (except for one chapter that was tacked on to another story as an epilogue of sorts). This part, which can stand alone, seems to be three or four chapters long; don't know, as am cutting and pasting a relatively small part from a very bulky draft. In any event, the st

Bilbo tells a story to a young friend. A/N: If the tale told here seems to differ from that in the Hobbit, keep in mind that Bilbo is the storyteller, and he has been known to change details to make himself look better. This was written for the weekly challenge on the AragornAngst list for prompt # 3: Riddle. There is a maximum word count of 500 words for the challenge. This story has exactly that. This story takes place in the year 2943 of the Third Age, a year after Bilbo returns home a

bullet The Beloved Leader by Gryffinjack Last Updated: 3/16/2006
Written for Marigold's Challenge #26, where the required elements she gave me of a bad fall and a trophy were just begging to have this story written. This is a tongue-in-cheek tale of what happened after the death of Lalia the Great. My apologies to the entire Took clan.

bullet The Three Towers by shirebound Last Updated: 3/15/2006
A visit to the Tower of Ecthelion in Minas Tirith compels Frodo to return to the Tower of Cirith Ungol, accompanied by the King and the remaining members of the Fellowship. While Frodo struggles to recover lost or unclear memories, many of his companions find themselves making discoveries they did not expect. This story is based in book-verse, with bits of movie-verse interwoven at the author’s discretion. Angst/drama, but (being me) there's enough hobbity lightness to balance things out.
