Awwh! How a shock it must be for Gellamion... Greeted in a very unfriendly manner by the great marchwarden of Doriath. Then again, he had started all the mess there. I love all two point of views and the atmosphere in which they were set in. (The less-than-smooth encounter with Gellamion in the shop just spiced up things, to me.) You made me feel as if I were there and shopping or sitting around. Another nack of yours, I fear. grin And I am quite fond of the talk about the items in the shop, as I know next to nothing about sailing, despite my love of the sea. (Sad, really, and embarrassing.) Olwë's story about Círdan made me have to stifle my laughter in order not to wake up my sleeping younger brother. It was so hilarious! His fascination with the water, stubbornness, insistance... and becoming a good swimmer (towing his friends into the bargain in the process) because of how many times he had fallen off his raft... ROTFL To think that he was a very respectable shipwright now... The manner of saying was rather bland, but the story provided for itself. And I just noticed how it must be a bittersweet memory afterwards... I did not know, though, that Elennen was old enough to experience Círdan's exploits with his rafts first-hand. It was a bombshell falling on me, and I stopped reading for a moment to digest the information. So he had been Olwë's guard for... who knew how long? I am glad that Lindarion was striking up very well with Beleg. They truly looked and behaved like cousins! I wonder, though what were in their minds; especially Beleg... And why did Balamir called his parents Atar and Ammë, not Atar and Amillë? It is like just calling one's parents Father and Mummy... A bit weird. I love the scene in the square before they made their way to Balamir's shop, especially when the group saw the Elflings. The atmosphere was quite warm, and here was the prove that those people coming from Middle-Earth were no longer afraid to let their children wander off in the open without any kind of defense (unlike the three Elflings in one of your one-shots, who carried weapons with them even when they were just intent on playing in the woods nearby their home). I wonder how long it had taken them to adjust to this orc-and-warg-free situation. How long had it been from the end of the First Age at this point? The interaction in the Blue Dolphin was no less great! I laughed, though, when the son of the tavern's owner called Sador young. Well, you mentioned him as young too... What does it say? A pot calling a kettle black? Dunno. But it was amusing nonetheless. grin And I built up a fondness towards how courteous the father and son were towards the guests, even when they knew that those were Amaneldi. True, I have forgotten the details in Sador's kidnapping, so I could not recall if they had been just as warm to Sador and his grandmother... Their shock was only half-expected; with how casual Arafinwë and the others acted, I often forget that most of them were royalty. The same goes to the Valar and Maiar, I think, despite how often you mention giving obeisance, titles, politics, and all. I wonder where Finrod and his group were... Perhaps it is in the next chapter? I had better check. Hopefully they were not in trouble. But, as someone had pointed out (Sorry. I forget again who it was. :embarrassed:) so aptly, Finrod and Glorfindel being together were just something bad waiting to happen. grin - Rey Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed this chapter. Sador is young in several ways. Chronologically, he would be about 560 years old if he'd survived the kinslaying at the Havens of Sirion and compared to those who can count millennia of life that is quite young by elvish reconning, biologically, as a Reborn, he's only a few years old and, of course, emotionally, he is much younger than he was when he died, so yes, Sador is young in many ways. Chronologically, he would be about 560 years old if he'd survived the kinslaying at the Havens of Sirion and compared to those who can count millennia of life that is quite young by elvish reconning, biologically, as a Reborn, he's only a few years old and, of course, emotionally, he is much younger than he was when he died, so yes, Sador is young in many ways.

While it appears that some serious mending of relationships is occurring, I can't help but think there are troubles ahead. Just got back from vacation and have a ton of emails, both here and at home, to go through. I actually got to hold a live Koala bear and had my picture taken with it. Awesome! Author Reply: There is of course the possibility of troubles ahead especially considering the people involved. grin Glad you had such an awesome time on your trip.

Ah--definitely a mixed welcome they find. And am glad they are finding something to ease the stomachs of the poorer sailors! Heh! Remember my first sail on the open ocean and how seasick I became! Author Reply: A mixed welcome indeed, Larner! At least there are those who know what to do for the poorer sailors. Beleg should not have a much trouble with any future sailings.

Those poor elves in the shop sniggers... what was it you said about legends popping out of nowhere? I loved that piece about Cirdan and his people becoming very good swimmers very fast. I can´t help imagine him rowing out day after day and returning swimming ;-) That must have earned him quite a reputation. I can just picture Finwe or maybe Elwe or Olwe teasing him mercilessly while he´s occupied wringing out his hair and clothes... Does grabbing an offending ellon by the collar and lifting him up by it count as trouble, what do you think? So Glorfindel and Finrod are late. I wonder what they are up to... Greetings Thalanee Author Reply: Hi Thalanee. I am glad you liked this early image of Cirdan. He must have come in for a lot of teasing by the others, but we know tha in the end he became quite good at what he does. Define trouble? lol At least Beleg is not tearing the poor ellon apart. We will learn next week why the others are late.

I love Beleg with his "Hey, Bud, you got a problem?" attitude. I'm sure that everyone was quite surprised in that little shop with the sudden realisation that a king, a prince, and a legendary warrior were visiting. I really like the glimpse into the sailing supply shop and the meeting with the proprietor of the Inn who automatically expected compaints from patrons. What a wonderful insight into the reality of the day to day goings on in Tavrobel! I really like the way this story explores the mundane (politics in Beleriand versus Aman and small business goings on on Tol Eressea) and makes it so intriguing. I am pleased to see that Arafinwe wanted to personally thank those who helped his son before at the Inn, that is such a nice side of Arafinwe to glimpse - the dad being a dad sidde of him. I am worried about Finrod now though and Glorfy and the trouble they may have gotten themselves into. Author Reply: Hi Ellie. Thanks for your comments. I am glad you like these little insights into the ordinary lives of the Elves. I enjoy exploring that part of their society. And Arafinwe is a very cool Elf, that is for sure. We will see next week just what is holding up Finrod and company.

I hope your internet troubles will be resolved swiftly, and that they won’t occur again – whatever they are. I liked Beleg’s little quip about the only use he knew for ropes. That Gellamion has a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease, doesn’t he? And it certainly ensures that this day seems to become among the top contenders for “worst of his life”. Orchvann, indeed. carefully makes note of the insult At least the day has been nice for Arafinwë’s group. So far... Author Reply: Hi Sunny. I'm glad you liked Beleg's quip about ropes. He has a completely different point of view about some things than Lindarion does, that's for sure. grin Gellamion is probably wishing the ground would open up and swallow him whole right about now. And Arafinwe's group might be having a good day so far, but there is no guarantee that it will last, not with Finrod and Glorfindel loose in Tavrobel. lol

Hi Fiondil, Sorry to hear about your Internet woes. I know how frustrating it can be, and my service interruptions so far have only been short-lived and easy to solve. You present an interesting dilemma in this chapter. Do the visitors make known to everyone who they are right away? If they don't, then they are more likely to hear the honest opinions of the natives, as in Olwë's case, but as we see that can lead to its own difficulties. And if they do introduce themselves right away, they may not gain as true a picture of the island as they desire. Then again, maybe that's not a true assumption, as we see with Gellamion. grin On reading this chapter I'm appreciative of what we now know about Gilvagor. I realized that I was a bit confused before about his status on Tol Eressëa. Now I understand and know, at least in part, and have a better feel for "who" he is. I do feel sorry for Margil, Belegorn and Artohir-all of them blindsided-by kings, no less! Now to find out what is keeping Finrod and Glorfindel from their lunch meeting with Arafinwë and company. Good conversation? One can only wish. Hope the computer gods smile on you and your Internet woes are brief-for your own sake, and yes, so that your readers aren't left in the dark for too long. Ah well, a little (or prolonged) suspense...the spice of life! Take care. Joanne Author Reply: Hi Joanne. Unfortunately the internet problem is long-termed as recent flooding pretty much wiped the system out, but I have access to an internet cafe so that is okay. I should be able to get to the cafe at least a couple of times a week to post chapters and answer emails. You state the problem the kings have very well. Do they identify themselves immediately and perhaps not get as honest a response to their questions as they would like or keep silent and hope they don't encounter other kinds of problems otherwise. An interesting dilemma and there is no easy answer. We see how it works both ways here. I'm glad this chapter helped zou to get a better feel for who Gilvagor is. He is an interesting character and I haven't been able to explore his character more fully before this. Hopefully during this Progress we will come to know him better.

Orc-food. Nice insult. I like it. Sounds like they are having an interesting time. However, I have a nasty feeling that the group with Finrod and Glorfindel in it will find more trouble than the others put together. Just guessing from past events. Author Reply: Hi Aiwen. We'll see in the next chapter just what sort of day Finrod and Glorfindel and their group are having and if they encounter any trouble. Glad you liked the insult.

Lindarion is quite determined to share his obsession for sailingwith his new-found cousin grin Don’t know if to be glad that he makes such an effort, or to be sorry for Beleg with his sea sickness. Love that anecdote about Cirdan :) That visit to the shop is turning out quite entertaining – and interesting. Looks like they need to have an eye on this Gellamion and any that might think in the same way. Well, for the moment, Beleg took very good care of the problem eg I’m looking forward to know how that visit – and the relationship with this guy – are turning out. Once again, you’re proving the master in leaving your readers hanging ... :-/ The visit in the Blue Dolphin Inn went much better, at least for the moment. But where on earth are Finrod and Glorfindel? I hope they didn’t find trouble again. Whatever your internet woes are, I hope they’re solved soon. It’s always so annoying to have to deal with that sort of problem!

My favorite line was the 'orchvann' one..... Good chapter.... very interesting - I do hope the delay is not due to a problem??? Good luck with you own internet problems..... Author Reply: Hi Agape. I think everyone's favorite line is that one. grin Glad you enjoyed the chapter. And of course the delay is due to a problem. This is Finrod and Glorfindel we are talking about here. lol Thanks for your concern. Unfortunately the internet problems will not be resolved too soon as part of the system was destroyed by recent flooding. Luckily, I have access to an internet cafe that is not too expensive to use.
