A Long-Expected Wedding  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)
ImhirielReviewed Chapter: 13 on 7/10/2013
Oh my goodness! I thought the rumours would limit themselves to the "usual" more or less mix of humorous, ignorant, fanciful or mean-spirited. But that rumour went far beyond mean-spirited! Not only is it shocking for the kind of a bit prim society of your stories, but also shows a remarkable sign of contempt of cultures from Beleriand, as if they were wild barbarians.

And isn't it ironic, that in "In Darkness Bound", the Noldor left in Aman felt guilt and shame in comparison to the other clans, but here they feel they can lord it over the ones from Beleriand or the Returnees and Reborns.

Weeeell, if the Maiar don't heal Intarion because of evidence, they shouldn't have done it for the other ellon either, so he will be able to tell his side of the story with the same kind of evidence.

Fresh as I come from "In Darkness Bound", the contrast between Intarin and Ingalaurė then and now is very interesting to observe. This is the first time, actually that I recall you giving us such a direct example of just how a Reborn's character and maturity are affected by their stay in Mandos. Even for Glorfindel and Finrod, you mostly merely had other people remarking on the differences, or showing through flashbacks; but here you have both "stages" directly side by side for comparison.

Author Reply: That would've been boring, Imhiriel, to have just "normal" rumors. LOL! And it had to be especially mean-spirited to get the two Reborn riled.

I wanted to contrast the Reborn in various stages of "maturity" in this story, from Finrod, who has pretty much reached full maturity (though he seems to be regressing a bit here) to Intarion and Ingalaurė who have only recently been "let out". And we will meet even newer Reborn later just to make things more interesting for everyone. *grin*

Thanks for your review. It's appreciated very much.

I spent an entertaining afternoon to catch up on this story. I just had to comment on this chapter before reading on.

The title tells it all. Reborns getting bored and a Tavern gets trashed. After just having finished IDB, now reading about Ingalaure as Reborn on the emotional level of an elfling is a bit jarring. But he and Intarion (I had forgotten that he died also) are cute. Although they were not nice to Glorfindel. I hope he doesn't get into too much trouble for leaving them alone. But after the episode in the kitchen fight it was probably too much to ask for him to have the foresight to see the danger of two recently Reborn left alone.

These gossip mongers need to watch what they are saying and where. It was decidedly stupid to do it in front of the 2 princes. Although, they probably had no idea who these two were. I loved the cleanup of the Maia. They just left enough evidence...Wouldn't it be nice to have some Maia around?

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. The title certainly does tell all, doesn't it. *grin* And I imagine it is a bit disconcerting to read of Ingalaure's death one week and then see him alive and well and Reborn the next. And the gossipmongers wouldn't recognize the princes for who they are, so it would never occur to them to watch their words. But you are right, that it would be nice to have some Maiar around. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Having two siblings younger than me who are twins, I am well aware of the mischief they can get in to. It's enough to turn a parents hair white.

Author Reply: I'm sure it is, Tari. And while Ingalaurė and Intarion aren't twins, they are cousins and are on the same emotional level as Reborn, so I suppose it comes to the same thing. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

This chapter was so great, just seeing the title did it for me!!!! I loved it, hahahaha, but poor Intarion and Ingalaure, being beat up for standing up for their cousin. Now I am just waiting to see how Findarato and Ingwion take the beating of their cousins and brother, and about the rumor initiated by that horrible elleth. Oh I think I will absolutely love how Ingwion and Findarato confront this... of all the elves to anger with horrible rumors and beating of relatives those two would be my last choice, and that is without counting how the Kings of the Noldor and Vanyar react... good to have some Maiar around to solve the problems that the reborn invariably experience. I just hope Glorfindel doesn't get into to much trouble for leaving them alone, after all they were pretty rude to him... also I hope he does not feel responsible for the incident...

But I do have some questions, why does Intarion mentions that he has no naneth???? Because he has, she is only in exile... also this question just came to me from the comment you made of Glorfindel having matured (but not fully yet), if Sador is the same age of Glorfindel SINCE being REBORN and therefore has not fully matured, how is it that he can lead the people of Tol Eresa???? It would be like giving Glorfindel the task to watch over a whole army, it just is not done, at least not yet.

Author Reply: HiMonalex. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I'm sure the title alone was enough to set lots of people laughing. We'll see in the next chapter how everyone fares.

As to your questions: of course Intarion has an ammė and an atto, but he knows they are in exile and why, and it is unlikely that his parents are even aware of his having been Reborn. And, given that Ingoldo and Tinwestariel have been permanently banished, it is unlikely that he will ever see them. So, for him, he has no ammė or atto and being a 'young' as he is emotionally, that has to hurt on some level when he sees everyone else with an ammė and atto (if that makes sense) so when the ellon mentioned his ammė, all that hurt he must feel but keeps hidden came out.

As for Sador... he died quite young, when he was only 68 years old, and the Reborn take some time to regain the level of maturity they had enjoyed at the time of their deaths. Tolkien states that even after reaching their majority, Elves take at least another 50 years to reach emotional maturity, and I've taken that as my standard, but because they are Reborn, I've expanded it to 100 years. But that's on theaverage and applies to those who were much older than Sador when they died. The older they were, the longer it would take. But circumstances play a role and some may mature at a faster rate (Glorfindel or Finrod, for instance) than others. Sador has not taken as much time to reach his emotional maturity as the others and will continue to mature, but he is more mature than most for his age and that is why he is Cįno.

Anyway, I hope that clears things up a bit. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

So much for boring!!

I hope Glorfy isn't in too much trouble for leaving the two to their own devices, but, they were pretty rude to our favourite Balrog Slayer. OTOH, he also didn't show that much good judgement by not going back to check on them.

If that hadn't happened though, then the Vanyar Princes would not have heard that piece of work's venom filled words. There's gossip and then there's saying things in order to take revenge for some percived slight. Of course, those people are far more dangerous than some old biddy or young biddy gossiping.

I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of that particular elleth when *both* of Their Majesties *and* Finrod *AND* the others hear what she was saying in that tavern. Someone more than likely thinks she's in trouble, but has *no idea* just how big of trouble she's in.

Then again, for saying such horrible and spiteful things, she deserves what's coming her way.

Can't wait for next Wednesday to find out how it all shakes down. :oD

Author Reply: You bet, Tigger! LOL! I think some people will find 'boring' to be not so bad after this. I doubt Glorfy will get into too much trouble, as certain people will take his immaturity into account. At any rate, we'll find out how Arafinwė and Finrod and everyone else reacts to what they learn of the incident in the next chapter.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you doing so very much.

Oh dear...I suspect Glorfindel is going to regret not staying with them (then again, if he'd gone with Intarion & Ingalaure I suppose it might actually have been WORSE)

Author Reply: Hi bookworm. You may be right about Glorfindel and things may well have been worse if he'd gone with Intarion and Ingalaurė. On the otherhand, if he'd stayed with them, perhaps they wouldn't have gotten into trouble at all. We'll never know. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Just the chapter title is enough to make me wince. What did they *now*?

Of course Glorfindel was the one to find the loophole in Ingwë's orders straight away! Though from the sound of it, I suspect it's really better not to let these two anywhere near swords yet. So I was glad that Glorfindel stayed firm and didn't allow them to play with them.

I'm beginning to really like Ingalaurë and Intarion. They fit right in with the other troublemakers. And of course they had to react to what they heard ... again, they shouldn't have, but it was still nice that they tried to defend Finrod. I have to admit, I was smirking when the Maiar had these rumourmongers taken to the palace and refused to heal Intarion for the sake of evidence. Yeah, nip that in the bud before it gets out of hand!

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. That seems to be the reaction from a lot of people when they see the title. *grin* I'm glad you are beginning to like Ingalaurė and Intarion. They are typical Reborn so they naturally fit in with all the other troublemakers. We'll see how they and the rumormongers fare in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

It CAN be helpful to have a Maia or two come to the rescue, I must say. But these four do need to have a long talk about gossip in public places so close to the palace! Heh!

Author Reply: It certainly can, Larner. There are times I wish I had a Maia or two to come to my rescue. LOL! And we'll see how the four Noldor fare when brought before Arafinwė in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh, Atto!

First of all, sorry for not reviewing lately. My internet connection's been a little temperamental ever since the router went crazy...my Anatar only just fixed it recently but that's what they're good for right? Only he yelled at me and I didn't even do anything! Neri! *sighs*

Don't worry, *you* weren't included in that "Neri" :P

Ok...as soon as I got through the title, I knew there was going to be a problem, LOL! But I wasn't expecting THIS! Might I suppose there's another trial in the near future? Oh, boy...

But still, what a stupid thing for those Amaneldi to say, and in front of Reborn, too!

Glorfi...why'd you leave them alone? Really...

Looking forward to Friday, Monday, and of COURSE next Wednesday!!

Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hey Kaylee. Glad you're back online. And as you guessed, there will be another trial, or rather an enquiry, which we will see in the next chapter. I'm glad you are enjoying this story and Darkness. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Well that was exciting and boring!

Yep, some 10 year olds have a very short attention span, once the novelty wears off they want to do something else, a pity they are not allowed to 'play' with the swords, but I can see Ingwe's point(Sorry for the pun!) I do think Glorfi should have tried to stay with them, he was a little upset though, his maturity is still not as it was, but he is coming along.

I doubt, this close to the wedding that Finrod and Amarie will do it Sindarin style, if they were, they would have done it already. What a vicious thing to say though and just because she is jealous of those who have been invited to the wedding and to cap it off with the comment about him not being a good enough king to hang onto his kingdom! Well! They were just asking for it!
I am glad that Manwe and Este had some Mair on Reborn watch to take care of them and the Inn.

Now to see what Arafinwe is going to do to the 'good citizens' of Tirion!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Glorfy did his best but the other two weren't helping much. And whether the other Elves in the tavern were asking for it or not remains to be seen. Some people enjoy being spiteful especially against people who in the normal course of things would not be able to defend themselves against the spite.

Anwyaya we'll see in the next chapter how Arafinwė handles the situation. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
