I wonder how the trees react when they do someone NOT allow to approach? Anyway I loved Gil Winters arguments about the existing of elves. Poor Alex: every conviction he has is shattered. Hope he has regained some confidence. The elves can really unsettle your world view, can´t they? One of my favourite chapters so far. Thanks. Lai Author Reply: Hi Lai. I'm sure the anyone the trees don't like gets a feeling of gloom and unease (there have been forests like that) and they don't hang around long. And "Poor Alex" is the most common comment in this story. His worldview has to be turned around before he can deal with what is happening in Wiseman as you will see in subsequent chapters and the Elves are very good at unsettling mortals when needed. I'm glad this is one of your favorite chapters so far. I rather like it myself *grin*. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very mcuh.

That's really more and more looking like Alex's burnt out and needs a break. I am glad Gil followed him and brought him to that place in the wood; it had such a calming influence on Alex. Not that it lasted very long *sigh* Gil has a point. Most fairy tales and other old stories have at least a true core, no matter how distorted they became over the centuries. So, why should Elves not exist or have existed at one time? I for one am only too willing to believe they could! Good to see Zach again, I had missed him. He was one of my favourites in the first part. Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Most likely you're right about Alex's burnout. And everyone is glad to see Zach back. He was a lot of people's favorite from the first part (including me *grin*). Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Atto, It's interesting that the trees allowed Alex to approach. I'm wondering what the trees have in mind for our intrepid hero, LOL! =D Hmm, you know, I'm wondering if Gil is really an Elf. *studies Gil suspiciously* Maybe he's a Maia or Vala pretending to be an Elf. *lol* *is trying hard to remember who took Glorfindel to that one globe where he could listen to the woods and hear the Song resonating through everything* I know I know, I just don't remember...but whoever it was, maybe that's who Gil is *lol* That's my guess, Atto. Tye-melin! Kaylee Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. It is interesting that the trees allowed Alex to approach. It shows that he's got the right stuff even if he's not aware of it. You're thinking of the Maia, Nyéreser, who showed Glorfindel the globe. And no, he's not Gil. As I said earlier, Gil is an Elf, a Sinda, to be precise. Thanks for commenting. Tye-melin.

Alex is an interesting character. The trees "allowed" him to approach. That is good to know. But if Alex has time to think of his experience with this grove and his conversation with Gil, he will probably be more confused than ever. "Elves" being real is so out of his understanding of his reality that he will be a hard nut to crack. Having been comforted by his teacher also must grate on him. I don't think it fits with the image he has of himself. I just hope he can overcome his pride in the end. I hope Zach can help sort him out. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. I'm glad you think Alex is an interesting character. He's really quite complex. I think you're right about him, though. Given who he is, having Gil comfort him probably does grate on him to some extent. After all he's a "trained agent" and doesn't need comforting, right? *grin* Anyway, I'm sure Zach will be a good influence on him and Derek. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated.

Yay! Zach's back! I'm looking forward to seeing what happens as he gets to know Derek and Alex and vice versa. The entire exchange between Gil and Alex was really well done. I could almost "see" Alex calming down and relaxing. It was neat to see Gil's softer side, too. After he put Alex in his place a few chapters ago I was imagining him as a sort of hard, no-nonsense character. I'm glad to see that he isn't really that way. Author Reply: Hi Lizbeth. Everyone is happy to see Zach. I guess he was a favorite from the first story. I have a special fondness for him myself. I'm glad you found the exchange between Gil and Alex well done. Gil may have appeared cold at first, but he's an Elf and he is very concerned about all his students, including Alex, so we see a softer side of him here. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

You know, I caught myself looking forward to these updates like a child to a promised treat - that is how much I've come to enjoy this story. *g* I like Gil very much - he is a fantastic character! Alex' connection to the trees in most interesting, too, and I am glad to see Zack again. Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I'm glad you look forward to the updates. It means I'm doing something right. *grin* And I'm glad you like Gil. I really enjoy writing him. I hope that as I introduce some of the other Elves that readers will like them as well. We'll see more of Zach throughout the story; he has an important role to play. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I really appreciate you doing so.

That the trees accept him is indeed a good sign. Now--for him to begin learning the truth of his situation. After all, the Valar (or SomeOne else) obviously want him here. Author Reply: A very good sign, indeed, Larner. It will take a litle time for Alex to learn the truth, but he will eventually. And yes, he's obviously meant to be there. Thanks for commenting. It's very much appreciated.

This is getting to be very interesting! I loved the way Gil answered Alex questions with, if not a question, at least a request to look at things differantly. I wonder if Alex will be going back to the woods when he is troubled, it sounds like a good place to be! Good to see Zach again and also that he is Loren's Aide, do his parents know he is working for Elves? I like the flavour of this story, it has your style to it but a more mature taste. Hope that makes sense. Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I doubt Zach's parents know he's working for Elves, only that he is an assistant to the director of Elf Academy. I'm sure they're very proud of his accomplishments, especially that he's not stuttering any more, or not as much. The 'mature' flavor of this story is probably due to the fact that we're not dealing with Reborn. *grin* Glad you like the direction in which this story is going. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh lovely - the trees allowed him to approach. We could all be that lucky. I think getting together with Zach will be good for both Derek and Alex. Like I said a few reviews ago, I can foresee a future where Alex might be a member of the faculty, although maybe not on campus. Great chapter, I can hardly wait for the next one. - Erulisse (one L) Author Reply: Hi Erulisse. Yes, the trees recognize his worth. An interesting concept of Alex being a member of the faculty but not necessarily on the campus. I'll have to keep that in mind, as, quite truthfully, I still don't know how this will all end. Glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for taking the time to review and letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

That should be one interesting archery lesson for Alex. Poor guy - he needed some time away just to try and think things through. And of course he's so sure elves aren't real - no one has actually seen one, right?! So Zach is Glorfindel's assistant? He seems much more confident, even from his brief appearance. Can't wait to see more of him. Author Reply: Hi Ces. Alex hasn't had time to breathe since he got to Wiseman. Hopefully this little respite will help. Yes, at the end of EA1 it is told that the six Mortals who first befriended the Elves became their assistants once the Elves took over the Academy. Having been Glorfindel's roommate, it makes sense that Zach would end up helping Glorfindel. And don't forget, two years have gone by, so of course he's more mature and confident than when we first met him. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
