The Journey Home  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)
ImhirielReviewed Chapter: 37 on 7/13/2013
Totally not the reception I was expecting, and I enjoyed the twist immensely. Very low-key and without any of the "high profile" characters I was sure wondering would be there.

Loved the slightly absurd tone of the confrontation between the Teleri and Maglor and his companions. Here I was, fully expecting them to be all accusatory and aggressive, and for Maglor to throw himself at their mercy - and I bet they expected this, too - but no, they all confused themselves by adhering to the up-front questions and answers and literal meanings.

And Olwë and Maglor's exchange was priceless!

Author Reply: I don't think anyone was expecting the reception they got. And I thought Olwë and Maglor's exchange pretty funny, myself. Thanks for reviewing, Imhiriel. It's much appreciated.

The Valar must be eager to get Maglor back into Elven society when they shortened the way and sent Nyereser to guide the ships. But Alqualonde is a hard one for Maglor. Coming back to the scene of crime with all the guilt he is carrying around is hard. The less than enthusiastic greetings by the locals was to be expected, although I wonder what they really wanted. Just staring at Maglor as some kind of freak, or did they really wanted talk to him and just got derailed by the enormity of it all. That Olwe greets them so friendly will go a long way towards reconciliation.

Author Reply: Very eager, obsidianj. And you're right that Alqualondë was hard on Maglor. The people who met him on the dock I think were, as you say, a bit overwhelmed by suddenly meeting the great Lord Maglor, last seen in those parts doing terrible things to their kin. Olwë, on the other hand, is one cool ellon. I really like his style. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

I find the idea of a lemon-scented messenger maia very amusing...

I like the way you've dealt with this - I rather thought it would be more awkward, but you've done it nicely.

Author Reply: Hi Freyalyn. Tolkien states in one of his writings that the Maia exuded floral scents in their natural state, so I have the Maiar in my stories smelling of different floral and fruity scents whenever they appear and disappear.

I'm glad you like the way I've dealt with this part of the story and that you do not find it awkward. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreiciate it.

Wow! I wanted to leave a couple of chapters for me to savor, but I couldn't help rushing ahead! It is so strange to read a happy Maglor with a wife, children. I am looking forward to see how the rest of the elves react to Maglor. I can't wait to see who has been reborn!

Author Reply: Hi Fades. It is a bit strange to read about a happy Maglor with a wife and children. I've always felt so sorry for him and his tragic life, I just wanted to give him a happy outcome. We'll see how he and the others fare as they travel further into Eldamar to meet with the Valar. Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

TariReviewed Chapter: 37 on 6/11/2013
I'm just so very happy that Maglor has a loving family and friends to support him. I'm sure things will not go as badly as he expects. In fact, it will probably be just the opposite.

Where do you come up with all these names?

Author Reply: Hi Tari. It is nice to see Maglor surrounded by loving family and friends who support him. We'll see how things go for him and the others as they continue their way through Aman.

Some names are taken directly from Tolkien's works (why reinvent the wheel?), while other names are based on Tolkien's notes on the languages and how names were formed. So while some names are invented, they are created based on sound linguistic formulas developed by Tolkien and they all have actual meanings. I hope that answers your question, Tari.

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Needless to say, I'm chomping my nails down to the nubs. I KNOW what the Elves of Aman can be like. Valar protect our Maglor.

Author Reply: You and everyone else, Agape, but the Elves of Aman may surprise you. I'm sure the Valar will not let Maglor or anyone else come to harm now that they are finally home. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

LaerReviewed Chapter: 37 on 6/10/2013
The Harthadrim are truly a group to be reckoned with, the Alqualonde has more than met their match with this group. Sounds like the High King isn't having any issues with Maglor or the rest of the "gang". Perhaps Elrond will be there to see him soon? I think he would love to meet the family ;)

Author Reply: They certainly are, Laer, and no, Olwë seems to be quite cool about it all. We will see Elrond, I promise, but not immediately. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 37 on 6/10/2013
It would appear that the rank and file Teleri need to do some forgiving, or at least need to learn to come to the point already! Heh! I bless Olwe for his courtesy and his humor! Delightful!

Author Reply: Well, I'm not sure forgiveness has anything to do with it, Larner. More like shock at seeing these uncouth people, and, as you say, learning to come to the point to the point already. *grin* I have no doubt they had a speech already but they lost the opportunity with trivialities. Olwë is pretty cool. You have to give him credit for that. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

SunnyReviewed Chapter: 37 on 6/10/2013
Hehe, I think the Harthadrim will have to become used to Maiar popping out of thin air. That said, I liked the interaction between Nyéreser and Maglor in this chapter. I'm not surprised that he was picked to give direction to the returning Elves, since he clearly considers that he has a special relationship with Maglor.
I'm a bit surprised that Elrond wasn't waiting on the quay. If he had been there, he would surely have been able to scatter the crowd waiting for Maglor with a single quelling looks and an Eyebrow of Doom. ;) Though Nyéreser is certainly an effective enough substitute.
I'm definitely not surprised that Olwë is quite fluent in Sindarin by now. He did after all have to deal with his kinsman Beleg after he was reborn, and there were undoubtedly others. So like Arafinwë he would have needed to learn the language in self defense, if nothing else.

Author Reply: That's for sure, Sunny. It'll take some getting used to, I have no doubt. I'm glad you liked the interaction between Nyéreser and Maglot. The Maia has waited a long time for this moment. Elrond will show up, I promise, but in his own time. And Olwë's nobody's fool, that's for sure. He would've learned the language out of sheer self-interest and survival, like Arafinwë. Thanks for leaving a comment. I greatly appreciate it.
