Trust a Brandybuck and a Took!  by Grey Wonderer 13 Review(s)
Pearl TookReviewed Chapter: 43 on 11/14/2006
I missed this one, GW. Good thing it was nominated for a MEFA!

This is such fun!! I love Pippin wanting to get back to telling about the squirrels, and Merry knowing just when to put in an appearance!

Wonderful!!

Author Reply: Thank you! I came home to find that someone (you) had been leaving reviews for some of my stories and it brightened my night! It is much appreciated. The squirrels and I are thrilled! Seriously, this was a bit like a cartoon image in my head when I first wrote it. All I had was this idea about someone rushing by and handing Pippin a pie!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Pippin is just so very Pippin - only he could have the victims of the crime apologising to him and offering him its fruits!

Merry is sneaky enough to remind everyone of his status when it suits him, too. (It actually makes me feel rather sorry for the local farmers and housewives that this bunch of rather privileged little gentlehobbits can run round pinching their crops and stealing their pies. 'Young gentleman's pranks' are often actions that would be considered crimes among the ordinary working hobbits.) I do have rather a desire to see the pie thieves get their comeuppance!

But the story is absolutely hilarious. Made me laugh - and not much does that!

Author Reply: Thank you! I love the use of the word brilliant in reviews. LOL I am so glad this gave you a laugh. I did post one in which the thieves get their comeuppance. When Merry is a few years older he is again involved in a bit of stealing only from Farmer Maggot in this case. The story is called, "The Gardan Gate" and Maggot gives Merry a thing or two to think about and Merry takes care of some other little thieves. As you could tell in this one, Merry was all for fishing or swimming instead of pie-stealing but he was trying to impress the others. Pippin was just standing around being Pippin!

I hate to say this, but I really truly chuckled! Pippin...awwwwww!! I so badly want to hug him right now. Someone seriously needs to make me a Pippin plushie, then I could fulfill these urges. Haha. I want some pie....

Author Reply: I want pie too and that plushie doesn't sound like a bad idea either. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Ah, dear, dear Pippin. At least he is predictable, and so manages not to finger the other lads.

This is SO funny! I love it!

Author Reply: Thank you! The whole thing started with someone running by and handing Pippin a pie and then the rest of it just fell into place. I rarely know where an idea will lead or even where it comes from. I suspect that I watch too much television though. LOL

The nerve of that hobbit, not liking squirrels! This was adorable. It is best not to interrupt Pippin, isn't it? He's likely to go off on ten different tangents at once if you do. And him calling Berilac slow-witted! I'm sure Berry will have something to say about that once he catches up with them. I can so picture Merry practicing indignant looks in the mirror, probably at the same time he's flexing those muscles!

Author Reply: Lucky for Pippin Berilac could come out and get even with Mister Sandhills standing right there. LOL I am sure he will try to catch Pippin at some point, but he does tell Pippin the evil story about the bed at Frodo's in "If I Had a Hammer". LOL I have sort of made Berilac the cousin that is constantly telling Pippin small lies while they are growing up. (When Merry isn't doing it.hehehe) Thanks for reading and I am glad that you liked it.

"I spend my time, when I’m not busy running, worrying about what might happen to me if we’re caught. LOL, isn't that the truth??

LOL, oh, my gosh...lol.... Your Pippin is sooooo cute--and much more as a wee double-talker! Following his "Pippish" is like taking on a labyrinth. I loved how (whether he understood it or not) he thoroughly insulted the instigator-cowards hiding in the ferns.

Excellent story!

Author Reply: Oh, I think he know exactly what he was doing when he began insulting them. After all, Berilac did set him up to be caught as a pie thief. LOL As to the line about running and worrying, sometimes I think that is my life. Merry and I have that in common. LOL Thanks for reading this and reviewing and for all of the other lovely 'friendship' things that you do! Cheers to you!

“Are you here to swipe my pie?” Pippin asks, backing up again and looking rather protective of the pie.

Merimas is stunned. Pippin is actually accusing Mister Sandhills of stealing his own pie!

It is just as well there's no-one else here at the moment, because that line completely finished me! I was laughing all the way through but i was howling at this bit! Only Pippin could accuse someone of stealing their own pie, and do it so charmingly.

I love the way Pip rambles on in that way some childen do. Great story, GW, and loved Merry's narration too. The last line was perfect! :-))

Author Reply: Glad you liked it and that it made you laugh. I like it when people laugh at these. I also thank you for reviewing because your's is officially the 400th review for "Trust a Brandybuck and a Took"! A major event but sadly, no prize. LOL Thank you for reading and for reviewing, oh and for laughing too!

Sorry about that GW. I was rushing my reading this morning and must have read someone else telling us they were re-posting. Just written last night? I don't know how you do it. But had to come back tonight for another giggle before I go to bed as it has been a rough day.

Author Reply: You might actually have been thinking of the one that I posted right before this. It was a re-post from a Challenge. Thank you for reading it twice and reviewing it both times. I am so pleased that it helped you get over your rough day. I do hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Sleep tight!

Much as I worry about thieving young hobbits running about, this is just too adorable. I hope they both enjoy the pie!

Pippin is playing with fire and I am likely to get burned to a cinder if he doesn’t stop now.

Mister Sandhills and his friends give me a chuckle and a look that says that they now find Pippin absolutely adorable. Everyone does sooner or later so I am hardly surprised.

Awwwwww.

Author Reply: I have a garden-raiding story that takes place few years later when they both learn a thing or two about stealing called "The Garden Gate". Farmer Maggot teaches Merry a lesson after catching him in the crops. If you noticed, Merry is not exactly happy with the stealing but he wants to keep up with the older lads. This story is sort of his introduction into the whole business and "Garden Gate" is his lesson-learned. More than garden raiding, I do think a fresh pie on the window sill would have been a huge temptation for hobbit lads. Pippin just reaped the benefits of being in the right place at the right time. LOL
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review!

“I did like my story about a Wizard much better though, but I suppose that couldn’t really happen unless there was a wizard about, could it?”

Oh, this is just great! I love Pippin's conclusions!
And in Dreamflower's words: Thank you for Pippin being so very - Pippish :)

Author Reply: Well, thank you for being someone who leaves such lovely reviews! Glad you liked Pippin in this.
