Peregrin and Diamond  by Pearl Took 108 Review(s)
Grey WondererReviewed Chapter: 24 on 8/6/2006
Beautifully done. So like Pippin to keep the little farm. I loved every word, Pearl. Merry made me laugh with his purposal to Estella. That was, as they say, the icing on the cake. Brilliant!

A beautiful wedding! I enjoyed Sam's thoughts of Frodo as he performed the ceremony and I was near tears when Eglantine gave Pippin in marriage. As the mother of a son that rang true to me.

Oh ... nice. Happy Peregrin and Diamond. Joyfully betrothed Merry and Estella. And Merry gone one better by asking her as someone else to wed another. It'll take her a while to get her head round that one.

(Sorry to have missed commenting. I've been away.)

Author Reply: Quite all right, m'dear. Glad to have you back :)

Yes, Estella had best get used to it. As long as Merry is best mates with Pippin odd, convoluted things will keep happening ;-)

Thank you so much for staying with this and for writing responses!

Wow....what a beautiful ending to a most beautiful story! Oh, I had lovely snicker with Merry's marriage proposal to Estella...or what is Peregrin's after-marriage proposal to Diamond? hehehe Either way, my dear, it was lovely!

It was an exquisite story the first time, and even more so the second time round. I think you did an amazing job yourself in not straying much from the original tale--I usually succumb to the temptation. :-P I'm glad you didn't. Actually, I think you did well with enhancing it with the closet scene and such.

Thank you for sharing!

This is the last chapter? And here I am with no more reading time.

Ah. Will save to savour.

Hope to leave a "review" review later. *hugs*

Author Reply: I'll eagerly keep an eye out for it! Thank you, Lin.

Oh! I realised that I'd missed this chapter when the new chapter announcement took me to a post-wedding chapter! (I was sure you wouldn't have skipped such a momentous occasion.

I do love the way you have with words.
Such a load of happiness for one rather short day to carry.

And then the touching tribute to Diamond's father, brought tears to my eyes. And the reaction was completely appropriate:
There were some murmurs heard about the room and many looked at the small group of hobbit lasses that had huddled together when the ceremony began. Most of the girls within the group now shook their heads and moved away from Violet Boffin; no words against Pippin's marriage to Diamond would be spoken.

And the wedding ceremony itself, and the vows that Pippin and Diamond exchanged: more happy tears. Seems that I always cry at weddings, even hobbity ones!

MEWD, dear Pearl.

Whoa, baby! Those kisses at the end were the cherries on top of the cake!

That was indeed a very beautiful ceremony! I thought the symbol behind the hand-holding was especially nice and well done on the non-customary exchange of fealty/promises. I had a wee chuckle when Pippin lay in his bed before rising, thinking of how his life would be changed in just a few hours.

I thought this story was a bit longer, but you said you shortened it a bit--I hope there is still a little more to go! I have enjoyed this tale so much!

I'm glad your liked the ceremony and the kisses at the end ;)

There is one more chapter to go. I did combine some of the earlier chapters and so the story is now 24 chapters long instead of 31, but its actual length is most likely close to the same in actual # of words and pages. Maybe longer as I don't remember removing any lengthy sections but I did add a few (Merry and Pippin in the linen closet and Merry teasing Pippin about being in the barn).

Thank you for sticking with this and responding :)

:) You finally reached the wedding! This chapter was so...*hobbity* in every way! It seemed exactly as I picture a hobbity wedding. I'm really enjoying the rewrite, and it's just a shame that there are only one or two chapters left. Thankyou :)

Author Reply: Thank you!

I'm glad you like the wedding and feel that it's hobbity :)

Only one more chapter, sorry to say.

Thank you so much, EstellaB, for staying with this and for leaving responses :)

Oooooh! Good old Sam to the Rescue! Love his down-to-earth hobbit sense. Rosie has her own, too! This was just one more storm to bring the two lovebirds closer together. :-) The happiest days are just around the corner!

Pippinfan

Author Reply: Indeed they are, Pippinfan :) Tolkien had Sam being the salt of the earth, my muse felt Rosie should be the same.

Thank you so much for reading and responding :)

O I am in haste and cannot quote all the bits I want.

Although Lanti thoroughly approved of her daughters’ actions, it really was not something to be presented as proper behavior to such a little lass.
This was priceless!

And then Rosie's wisdom, and what she said about love being sharing the load. That's worth stitching on a sampler!

And Pippin's graphic portrayal of his despair, and Sam's solution. He and Rosie certainly are well-matched.

(And then Pippin's crack about Sam being Thain as well as Mayor, and Merry's rejoinder!)

VWD!

Author Reply: Thank you, m'dear Lin! I'm glad there was so much here to your liking :) My muse was generous with this chapter.

It is so kind of you to take time to read and respond, I know your time is limited these days. Thank you :)
