When the King Comes Back  by shirebound 24 Review(s)

Oh...that was good! Very good! But poor Frodo. Gilly's right though, at least he won't remember it. And poor Aragorn. Ouch! He probably got more of the explosion force than Frodo did because he was carrying Frodo. This was good and I'm really enjoying reading it. However, my reading/writing time may suffer pretty soon. I just applied for some jobs, so...well, you know. Anyway, have a great day...night. Whatever it is for you! :) Namarie!
God BLess,
Frodo Baggins

Post Script: Forgive me. I forgot, you don't need to worry about the cliff hanger...I'll help you tonight. Just don't let go! ;)

Author Reply: Thank you, Frodo. And good luck with the jobs! I hope you get the perfect one. :D

Poor Sam - such a shock!Somehow the Gaffer's reaction warms my heart - he is often portrayed as someone with little love for his son, but here is all we see a concerned father. And poor Bilbo, too! Thankfully enough we can all be sure that things will turn out right at the end (which I call the Shirebound-guarantee...*smiles*)

Author Reply: I just can't imagine Sam's parents as anything but caring and loving to their six kids... even if it wasn't always an obvious thing.

"...the Shirebound-guarantee..." Awwww! Love it.

Finally getting back online and am able to review. Excellently done descriptions of the aftermath, and so love how Gilly has taken over so efficiently. And poor Bilbo--can't stand to see his lad hurt! Lovely!

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner. FOTR tells us that Frodo loved Bilbo dearly, and it must be because he received love and security from him. I enjoy bringing that out in stories.

Oh, poor Frodo and Aragorn! This is really not good! And poor Sam, thinking they were killed! I still can't see how I missed this chapter, but oh well! Are you going to post the next one soon? *bounces in anticipation*
God bless,
Ellie

Author Reply: Eeee, suspense! I'm trying to find writing time, and hope to post the next chapter... maybe over the weekend, if all goes well. Thank you for reading!

Oooh! Unconscious Aragorn! Unconscious Frodo! Can I be Gilly's assistnat? Huh? Huh? *bats eyelashes* As a birthday present, precious! :-))

How can you make us wait while you gad off enjoying yourself? Tsk!

Love this story but don't make us wait too long. Enjoy your trip.

Author Reply: Yes, a birthday present! I think Gilly definitely needs your help at Bag End; I'll fax her your qualifications.

I hope your special day was wonderful, BB. Thank *you* for all the presents you give *us*.

:D

A CUT ARM!! THAT'S IT?!!! (oops, did I say that? I hope Frodo needs some suturing--he'll need more comfort then) ;)

<<“Be very careful, Halfred,” Gilly warned. “I don’t think Frodo has any broken ribs, but better to be safe than sorry. Don’t jostle him.”>>

Foreshadowing, perhaps? :D

Poor Bilbo, he's become quite the father, hasn't he. I hope someone will be there to comfort him later when his own tears need release into another pocket handkerchief.

Sandyman! Ughh! No wonder the Gaffer does not hold a very high opinion of him. I really enjoyed your characterization of the Gaffer. I've read many stories where he constantly berates Sam and calls him undesireable names. Instead, you show him as a loving, concerned father which seems to be more in tune with the hobbit culture as a whole. I also liked how the Gaffer protected his master's heir and guests from the slander. It is easy to see where Sam learns his devotion from. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gaffer had Bell send up a hot meal to Bag End that night.

One observation: wasn't Gilly Brownlock a male hobbit healer in 'Treasures'? I enjoy her as a female healer though. She seems to be very well-respected in the community and well-spoken as well.

Poor Scamp--she'll be beside herself when she sees a hurt Frodo and Aragorn come home, along with so many people. I hope her doggy anxieties don't send her into labor! (I also hope the ponies are well cared for after pulling such a heavy load of two Rangers, plus half-a-dozen hobbits.) LOL!

Bring on the comfort! .......... after you enjoy your trip, of course. Safe travels, Shirebound.

Author Reply: Gilly WAS a male healer in "Treasures" -- which I had to change awhile back. I had thought I made up the name Gilly Brownlock, until I discovered HER name in the Baggins family tree in ROTK. So I scurried back and corrected "Treasures
to make her female. Good catch!

"I wouldn't be surprised if the Gaffer had Bell send up a hot meal to Bag End that night." Good guess! The assistance of the whole Gamgee family will be an ongoing part of this story.

Thank you for all your concern for everyone (including Scamp and the ponies!), and the good wishes for my trip. I'm looking forward to it, and also to returning to continue with this story.

*hugs*

Oh my... broken glass acting like shrapnel, sprained wrists, concussions, bleeding heads, unconsciousness... what's not to LOVE, I ask? Nothing!! This is sheer fic heaven, sheer heaven. I can't wait to see what happens next... and yes, I think they will both be very stubborn patients when they wake. Frodo will want to see Aragorn, and of course Aragorn will want to rise and check on Frodo... it's going to be a nightmare for the healers! Hee hee.

A trip? You would leave US HANGING for a MERE TRIP? Oh... wait... THAT trip!!! Well, that's okay, then. I'll drag the next chapter out of you in person. ;D

Loving this tremendously!

Gosh, how did you ever guess? Thanks, Lily! *bounce bounce* And you just *might* be able to drag some of chapter 4 out of me on the trip, if I can get a bit of it written by then! Eeee, THAT trip!

Well done, as always, shirebound :) I loved everyone coming to Estel's defense when Sandyman had his nasty say. And a nice touch having Bilbo give the lads that emptied the cart some coin for their helping out.

Have a great trip :) :)

Author Reply: Thanks, Pearl. Ooooh, that Sandyman... *hiss*

Just finding this and was so excited to do so! Wonderful storytelling as usual. I'm so looking forward to the comfort that I know is coming! :D More, more, more!

Author Reply: Thank you, CP! Yes, comfort = good.

Por Estel and Frodo, but at least they are both still breathing and there is a healer there. Glad that Hamfast stuck up for the big folk. I got the largest laugh out of Gilly asking Bilbo if he had a clean handkerchief.

Author Reply: I love the way the Gaffer stands up for the Bagginses -- and their guests -- just as he does at the beginning of FOTR (book). And yes, Bilbo and his handkerchiefs! I'll bet he keeps his pockets stuffed full of them. :D
