I'd really love to see more of this story :-)

Author Reply: Your wish is my command. :-)

Wow ! (again. I am so original!) But well, I must say I am most impressed by how oyu managed this. I liked above all that you so glided over Amonethīs death. I could have not stood that, I think! :-) No seriously, the impact of his bereavement is clear in Galithil, os we must guess that he already knows about his naneth and is truly ovefrwhelmed. The scene at the family headwuarters with teh forgotten chores, and game and cloak was heartbreaking. Good job"

And Dolgailon raising to his fatherīs role was also very moving, evereything is so udnestated that is even more impacting, or at least I prefer it that way. An impressive story, elliska, but I am going to miss Aradunonīs light mood and reckless teasing of THrnaduil. He was a very rounded character.

Author Reply: I'm glad it came across well, and especially not heavy-handed because I didn't want that. But this is naturally such a monumental thing that has happened to Galithil that everything seems affected and he is overwhelmed, I think.

I am going to miss Aradunnon too. He is a very fun character to write. I console myself with the fact that there are some short pieces from Legolas/Galithil's younger years that I will post eventually, so I'l get to revisit him a bit. :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews. I really appreciate them!

Well, he has learned his lesson, very hard way to learn, but I'm sure that it was most effective that all the lectures that he had received before...Loved the small moment between brothers, when they shared the smile, like a promise to stand together...And I do love Maidhien and her support, she is really what he needs, not only now, but in the future too. I don't believe that Thranduil will have the same opinion that his brother regarding her suitability to belong to the royal family, it seems so harsh to condemn kids because their parents mistakes, but I can see that it is a problem to the royal family to have a connection with her family, anyway, I'm sure that you will make things very complicate and will fix it later. The scene when Galithil was alone in the family rooms was heartbreaking.

Love this story, can't wait for the next one, with a new Galithil and a new purpose in life....I'm still at work and reading your story, but couldn't resist the temptation

Author Reply: Yes, indeed he has--a very hard lesson the hard way. But you are right that the lesson has finally sunk in.

I don't believe that Thranduil will have the same opinion that his brother regarding her suitability to belong to the royal family,

Very true. Aradunnon was always more stubborn about the traitors than Thranduil was. But you are also naturally quite right that the Maidhien situation will get quite a bit more complicated before it settles down. :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them!

Elliska,

This is an excellent story. Congratulations on it being nominated for the MEFAs.

I'm sorry that I stopped reviewing... it hit too close to home for me, after my brother died.

You portrayed the characters' feelings and reactions very realistically. Well done.

- Barbara

Author Reply: Thanks so much, Barbara! I was so thrilled that it was nominated. And I am so glad the characters came across well. I do appreciate your reviews so much. But I have also gone and put a warning on the story. I should have thought of that.

Thanks so much for the review!

*Sniff*

Poor Galithil - this is going to be a hard journey for him. Maidhien is going to be such a strength to him though - her words were very wise.

I love Dolgailon's courage in taking on his father's role to address the crowd on their return. He'll be a good role model for Galithil to follow.

Looking forward to the next in the series!

Jay

Author Reply: Yes, Galithil is truly a very changed person now. The hard way, for sure. And you're right about Maidhien. And Dolgailon. But Dolgailon has a very big role to fill in very trying times to do it. I wouldn't want to be him.

Thanks so very much for the nom! I really appreciate it.

And thanks so much for the reviews. I appreciate them so much!

*lets out a long sigh* Oh wow. I still can't believe that Aradunnon is dead. I feel so bad for everyone, especially Galathil, Dolgailon, and Thranduil.

I "liked" how you put in Thranduil's slight confusion on his return home and how Dolgailon stepped up to take care of the situation. It came naturally to him to take up his father's place. It must have been hard, that and later, but he is so brave and steady.

It was interesting to contrast Berior and Brethil's viewpoint with that of Legolas and Galathil. In one terrible day the latter two became mature (I think...) while Berior and Brethil still have the same excited curiousity. War can be really bad--it's not all fun stuff like archery contests.

Definitely looks like Maidhien will be a big help. I hope Dolgailon and Galathil will remain very close. Oh, and it was so sad when Galathil was looking at his parents' things! And when he put on his father's cloak... :(

Also, I liked how Legolas was reluctant to show his wound. For one thing, he wasn't proud of it and didn't feel like showing it off and I think he would just prefer to keep that kind of thing quiet later in life too, if you, me, or anyone else knows what I'm trying to say.

Very interested to know where this is going next! I shall faithfully await the next Interrupted Journey!

P.S. Will you still consider Legolas and Galathil and Maidhien and such to be elflings in the next one? Just so I can know whether or not to be worried for their safety in the future. See, since you said that you wouldn't kill "elflings", that left a loophole. Loopholes are so crazy. People make deals in books and movies and they aren't specific, think PotC, and I am so far off the beaten track but it's late at night so forgive me. :)

Interrupted Journeys=Awesome!

Author Reply: I'm tickled you commented on Thranduil missing Aradunnon on the Green. I re-wrote most of this chapter and this was one of the original details I left in because I have shown Aradunnon doing this in several parts of the story and I thought it was something that would hit Thranduil.

The part with Galithil looking at his parents' things is something I added, because obviously this is one of the most difficult things to do when we lose someone, and I thought to was needed. Very sad indeed.

For one thing, he wasn't proud of it and didn't feel like showing it off and I think he would just prefer to keep that kind of thing quiet later in life too

Exactly! From what he's seen, he knows this is nothing cool. He and Galithil came back very changed people.

:-) I think I can assure you that we'll keep Galithil and Maidhien for the next story. ;-)

Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them!

Poor Galithil. He must be just drowning in grief and guilt. The little domestic details in his family's quarters were just heartbreaking, suggesting a cozy togetherness and familiarity that's gone. I particularly liked the detail of the game in mid-play. Maidhien is just what he needs right now.

I have to admit I was amused by Legolas wondering if he could just strip down to suggest to his unwelcome guests that he wanted to be alone.

I've been meaning to say that the tragic events of the last couple of chapters have give a real poignancy to the earlier scenes between Galithil and his father--the one at The Oak and the one about Maidhien.

Cool! When I did my (almost total) rewrite of this chapter, this is part of what I added because I felt like that is what you notice when you lose someone--these types of things. And that is really what hurts.

And I had fun with Legolas's thoughts about the bath too. :-) It needed something a little lighter.

Again, cool! Because when I'm leaving conversations like those in there, sometimes they seem a little dull (because they are). But they do have a point later on that I hope people will see. So this comment made me feel really good! :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews daw. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate them.

Aw...
My heart goes out to them all *sniffes and sobs*
You describe the characters' emotions so well throughout the story, especially Thranduil, Legolas and Galithil (especially when Thranduil asks him why he isn't in the talan with the others). Poor Dolgailon, I can't help feeling that he's going to struggle somehow. And Thranduil, losing both his father and his little brother in battle, AND having to try and rebuild his kingdom and comfort those little elflings at the same time.
Well done, Elliska! You write in a way that both inspires me and mesmerises me, keeping me completely hooked.

Author Reply: Thank you! I am glad the emotions come across well because that seemed really hard to get right.

(especially when Thranduil asks him why he isn't in the talan with the others)

I liked that part too, so it is so cool to have people mention it.

You are right though--everyone faces some challenges after all that has happened, both emotional and political. Things stay pretty dark from here on out.

Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate it so much!

I hope you're happy--I'm weeping all over my keyboard right now... :(

It's just *so* sad. The poor little elflings. What a hard wake-up call. I think you promised not to kill any of them (the elflings) and if you did, I'm just reminding you. If Galathil fades, that will be just too much for me.

I felt terrible for poor Dolgailon. He's going to have an awfully hard time healing his brother's problems and his own. Hmmm. Maybe Maidhien can help? :)

Sorry, that smile doesn't look right sitting in the review of a most distressing chapter.

Thranduil really has a hard life of it, you know. Legolas is going to have to be very strong and supportive of Galathil, poor things.

Oh,go Tulus! Looks like you won't be getting any extra bills in the mail--yet.

Author Reply: :-) I am very happy if I got a good emotional response with this chapter. ;-) Seriously, thanks so much!

I think you promised not to kill any of them (the elflings) and if you did, I'm just reminding you. If Galathil fades, that will be just too much for me.

It is just so tempting to say that 'fading' is a lot different from actually killing a character, but that would be just mean because you are right that I did say I don't have the heart to kill children. :-)

Dolgailon is going to have a tough time in this series, along with Tulus. And of course the whole family has a lot of healing to do. Poor things. It does get rather dark from here.

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

Oh! I'm crying...as I said before poor everybody... I feel so sorry for them.
I have the bad habit of reading at work, so I can't leave you a proper review, but I like this chapter, than you

Author Reply: Hehe! I know what you mean. I can't resist peeking at fanfic and reviews at work, but I really can't get caught doing it. Bad employee! ;-) Thanks so much for the review, though. I'm glad it made a good emotional impact. This was a hard chapter to write--action is easy, but its aftermath is tough to convey.

Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them!
