In the Mind's Eye  by shirebound 18 Review(s)

I am delighted to be back here. Thank God for the blessed stubbornness and cheer of hobbits! The part with Gandalf and Sam was interesting. So I take it the presence is not the wraith himself, but something within him that took him over first and is now inside Aragorn? That's scary that he doesn't know. Hope the plans to keep him distracted works.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, it's a fragment of consciousness that had been enspelled into the knife hilt found at Weathertop. It's an idea I'd been thinking about for awhile and finally found a story to tell.

Unwittingly Frodo has suggested the right thing, apparently. Now, to find the means of expelling this evil before the Wraith learns too much!

Author Reply: Gandalf has a lot of thinking to do!

Awww, yay for hobbit banter! Gandalf is in much need of his hobbits. I was glad Gandalf was able to take Sam's nighmare away.

Author Reply: Hobbits make me *so* happy. What a pleasure to imagine new adventures for them.

It's heartbreaking to think of Aragorn being treated in that way even though it was something that was totally not his fault :/

But Sam being Aragorn's babysitter, totally adorable :))

Author Reply: It *is* a scary thought, but all will be well in the end... I won't have it any other way! :)

Well, I'm very curious as to where this is going and what Gandalf's plan is! I hope it won't be too long before we find out. And I have to agree with Gandalf about the 'eternal, blessed stubbornness of hobbits' and with Elrond about their ability to bring light into the darkest moments. Thank goodness for it! Thank you!

Author Reply: Thank you, my friend. Our lives would be so much duller without those blessed and stubborn hobbits, and perhaps, deep down, Elrond will someday feel the same way.

Poor Glorfindel! He is so worried and feels so responsible. I do worry about Gandalf's idea. It all sounds so dangerous. And while having the RING near Aragorn might distract him, I wonder exactly how dangerous that will be for Frodo. More soon I hope. I am really enjoying this one.

Author Reply: Many thanks! I'm still working out the details, but hopefully I can get the next chapter written during my holiday break. Gandalf's ideas are often perilous, but usually turn out all right in the end. :)

I so hope Gandalf doesn't need to take that "perilous course", and that Aragorn doesn't need to be babysat. LOL

Author Reply: Spending time with hobbits... at least he'd be entertained while being secretly watched over. :)

Oh dear! I really hope that Gandalf will not be forced to "take a perilous course"!

However, there were also many funny moments in this chapter - and all of them had to do with hobbits. Like this one:

“Gandalf,” Frodo said, “if you need a babysitter for Aragorn just send him to Sam.”
“Hmmph,” Sam snorted.

*Grins* They are just great!

Author Reply: Hobbits! They make our hearts happy.

Thank you so much for reading. *beams*

This is such an exciting twist on the familiar tale. I'm really enjoying this.

Glad am I that Glordindel is so attuned to things happening. And for the dear Elf to feel distress at his 'failure' to protect Imladris!

Great chapter. Can't wait to read more. And VERY glad that Pippin is not a part of this... else he might spill the beans.

Thanks for sharing this tale with us.

Author Reply: It's such a pleasure to have a tale to share!

Poor Glorfindel... he's had a hard week. :)
