Elf Academy 4 - The Unfinished Tales  by Fiondil 16 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/11/2016
Well, we are beginning to get to the meat of the story.

I'm still very sad about the destruction of Edhellond and the exodus from Wiseman; there was so much I'd like to know that remains there. And yet, I think it's going to be refreshing to leave it behind as the Elves have their non-Alaska adventures. I do hope we will get at least a few glimpses of Wiseman at some point, since it was so important to set the SCA up there, as well as some other things.

But it will be fascinating to see the Elves working outside of what had become a very cozy (perhaps too cozy) environment for them.

Thank you, one and all, for bringing this to us.

Author Reply: Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Now we're getting somewhere it seems (Upstate New York?). Watching Alex behave like a normal human male/father-to-be while at the same time still reverting to type - as in ex-spy *ahem* excuse me, Intelligence Agent - is both heartwarming and hilarious! Followed quickly by Felicity's "I'm pregnant, Loren, not dead," had me trying not to choke on my tea. LOL

Glorfindel's "time sense"... okay, who is tagging in to Glorfi's brain and what do they want? or is that how "someone" knows where people are going? *raises eyebrows. hmmmmmm*

Not much I can say or even think re: the artifact. What is it? Where is it? And why the heck did you bury it? *grins*

So many questions, and no clues or answers. Oh how this makes me miss Fiondil hanar. He was oh so good at little twists and turns.

Author Reply: Hi!

Nothing is as it seems, and especially in this last story of Arthur's. It's a bit of a rollercoaster with plenty of surprises in store, not the least of which will be the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff that's going on with Glorfindel. And no, he's not the next Time Lord!

I'm late at catching up - blame RL stress for it. *sigh*

First and foremost, heartfelt thanks to the Beta Amigas for their hard work. It is good to see a continuation of the EA tales.

That said, it's hard for me to deal with the three-year-gap (and all the little details we've missed due to it); or the loss of Wiseman and its peoples, whom I've loved since EA1, which is still my favourite. I only hope that there will be flashbacks later. *crosses fingers*

Again, thanks to everyone who made it possible for us to read the Unfinished Tales. You rock, ladies. Now there's a reason to looking forward to Monday again.

Author Reply: Quite a few of you have mentioned the three year gap/loss of Wiseman, Soldedad! I think Arthur was in a mischievous mood when he upped the ante for his stories! It would be just like him to keep his readers guessing.

Obviously I can't give the game away, but things will become clearer as the story advances.

As for making it available, you are all very welcome. It took the three of us nearly a year to deal with the fact that Arthur was no longer with us, plus real life affairs kind of got in the way, but better late than never!

I am really enjoying this so far! I miss Fiondil very much, and it is a joy to read his writings again.... I am wondering though, do Elrond and Celebrian look upon Alex as another son, being that Elrond is in grandfather mode? If so, I would love to read how that came about. :D

Looking forward to more of The Unfinished Tales... did Fiondil name it this way? I would imagine that the ones that Tolkien wrote will have some bearing on this story?

Vanime

Author Reply: Just FYI Vanime, Ellie, Mari and I decided on calling these Fiondil's Unfinished Tales. We decided that if the Professor could have some, so could Arthur! It felt like a fitting memoriam for him.

So, they made their way all across the states to meet again, stalked by someone. At this point I believe more in Maias helping them along and preparing things than the enemy. Now on to retrieve the artifact in front of everyone without anyone being the wiser. Interesting challenge.

Author Reply: Hi! Nothing is ever as it seems! Arthur has put many twists and turns in this story.

Well this has started with a bang and no mistake.

Just what is this artifact that Gwyn and Gareth have hidden away, will they be able to retrieve it with out Mortals finding out? (Hint guys if you wear a hard hat and carry a clip board most people will ignore you.)

Yes, Kaylee I am to blame for the Orclings, Arthur used to say that made me the Grand Orcling! My Orclings are no longer cute three year olds, but are growing up, much to their Naneth's chagrin.

Hm, I wonder if Glorfindel's loss of time sense is permanent or is temporary?

Heads up to Cliff House, bringing a load of supplies, loo paper amongst them, plus Chilli fixins, a case of Angry Orchard and other assorted goodies.

Settles into seat, buckles up, picks up knitting and settles in for a wild ride!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: They are ALWAYS orclings Lynda, even when they get to the ages of my sons (40 and 45)!!

Again, I can't really give the game away about Glorfindel's loss of time sense, suffice to say that there is a lot going on in the story. Arthur was probably chortling all the way through writing it.

I am just thankful to be reading more of the EA saga, even if Fiondil is not with us anymore.

To all those who worked to bring EA4 to fruition, thank you, thank you, thank you! I may not always leave a comment, but I will be reading and re-reading the story as each chapter unfolds.

Thank you again and more power!

Author Reply: You're very welcome Celeth. Enjoy!

I wondered seeing Amroth's reaction to the location in the last chapter if it had something to do with where he used to live and this seems indeed to be that way. Who else thinks this place looks a suspiciously lot like Wiseman? There's even a Santa's workshop...
I still haven't gotten over the goodbye to Wiseman and the three years gap. There was quite some loose ends to EA3 which I was more or less expecting to be answered in EA4. Do you think we'll ever see anything back of Wiseman? I think the fact Legolas and some of the other woodelves staying there could be a hopeful sign.

Who else feels sorry for Felicity. Being near term pregnant and on the run is one, but having to deal with an overprotective Alex and two elven healers, with one in grandpa mode already...the girl could really do with a break.

Now what on early have Gwyn and Gareth found over there years that could be of use against the enemy? Based on the first part of the prologue, it would make sense if it had anything to do with the Templars.
They were after all known for their wealth and legendary treasure, it would not be a too far stretch of the having an artifact of power, possibly an ancient Elven artifact...Who knows?

Author Reply: Ha Ha! Now that would be telling wouldn't it? And yes their location does give off a very 'Wiseman vibe'. Certainly the leaving of Wiseman bears some explanation and one will be clear to you as the chapters move on. I am definitely not going to say that Wiseman won't feature again, although our brave Elves and Humans are going to be travelling a little bit; they certainly wouldn't leave Legolas and the other woodelves behind. Can you imagine Legolas putting up with being left behind?

Poor Felicity, I think all she wants is some peace, but I suspect that might be difficult to achieve, what with an over anxious expectant father and grandfather around. Time for some of Celebrian's good sense methinks!

As for what Gwyn and Gareth found, I will have to leave you guessing as all will become clear as the story continues. The parts about their sojourn with the Knights Templar is a very interesting one and who knows what the Templars picked up over the decades of travelling?

So, now I've read this several times and think I've picked up on all the subplots - maybe. I love that Fiondel brought the action closer to his home area, and an area of such beauty. Everything is falling into place, which means that when the s__t hits the fan, it's going to be huge! Can't wait for the next chapter. (Amazing - I actually made it through one chapter without a tear shed missing my dear friend! Yeah me!)

Author Reply: Hi Erulisse, this is Shemyaza replying on behalf of Arthur. I feel tearful every time I post a chapter!

Yes, the action is moving into an area that Arthur loved very much. I remember him describing it to me one day and of course with Arthur's descriptions you actually felt like you had been there.

As for the sh*t hitting the fan, I think I can quite safely say that there are a few surprises in store! More on that I cannot say.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/1/2016
Fascinating, although I don't understand why we've had age-related warnings on these chapters as I've not seen a single objectionable detail as yet.

There have been no overt attacks, but definite stalking, eh? I'd like to see more indications of just how they were stalked, of course.

Oh, if Fiondil were here I'd be peppering him with emails! Heh!

Author Reply: Hi Larner, this is Shemyaza logging in as Fiondil, as I have access to post the stories.

I am having a little trouble with the age restriction. Despite it being set at PG - 13 it insists on putting in the restriction page. Not sure whether this is me being dumb, or the system realising I am not Fiondil and silently accusing me of being a usurper!

I'm not sure whether Arthur would have given anything away, but there are explanations of what is exactly going on which will reveal themselves over time.

I am absolutely sure that Arthur is jumping up and down wherever he is in the Timeless Halls and telling me that if I give the game away to his readers he will come back and haunt me! Just kidding, Arthur was a delightful man and I would be happy to see him even in spirit form! I do miss him dreadfully.
