Trust a Brandybuck and a Took!  by Grey Wonderer 11 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 17 on 10/4/2004
Oh dear! 8-) What an *unusual* (ahem) beginning to Pippin's and Diamond's courtship.
I love your Merry in this. He does tend to be a wee bit obsessive sometimes, doesn't he? A paste for wood, hmm? But Pip's changed a bit. Little Pip would have had the utmost faith in Merry's paste and never doubted for an instant that it was a brilliant idea just because Merry thought it up. Maybe one reason Merry got so angry is that he misses Pip's blind faith a bit. Still, he *was* on his way to rescue him, and had the sense not to, when he saw the results. LOL!
Very cute story, and thought provoking.

Author Reply: I don't think Pippin has changed too much really. He had just, unfortunately, seen the paste fail repeatedly for several weeks and was a bit out of patience with it all. I am sure that when Merry announced his intentions to make paste, Pippin believed that he could, but at nearly 31, even Pip would have to realize that Merry's paste was less than perfect. LOL
For some reason I just have this mental picture of Merry as the kid who got the chemistry set at Christmas. I guess it is all of his studies of herb lore and his organized personality. Once he let Pippin stew a bit, he planned to rescue him, but Pippin managed to find another way out of his troubles. The sweat from his nerves loosened the paste.
As I told someone else, I am not too good at romance-writing and so I decided to go a very different way with Pip and Diamond. It has the advantage of not having been tried before. Thanks for reading!
