All That Glisters  by Lindelea 428 Review(s)

That certainly was a vivid dream Ferdi had if it could cause him to manifest symptoms. Pretty scary, though not unheard of.

I liked Ferdi's come-back when he was asked what he was doing there. And Pippin's reaction upon seeing the unreadable elvish was good, too.

Thanks.

Author Reply: Yes, a very frightening dream.

We went to the costume store to buy costumes for a Renaissance fair, and just the awful stuff in the windows was enough to give our little ones nightmares! And they didn't even go into the store!

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I think Ferdi is my favourite hobbit, really. He seems so tough, but he has a centre of pure marshmallow.

It'll be good to see the reunions at the Brandywine.

Author Reply: Quite a compliment, thank you.

I hope I can manage the reunion at the Brandywine. To tell the truth, I'm a bit apprehensive about getting it right.

Just a dream - quite a scary one!

Very Ferdi - 'mixed up in the way of dreams with the memory of the boy caught with the Men who'd entered the Shire just after the New Year, in search of the Thain's gold.' He acts very tough and ruthless, but his soft spot is young people. Was the boy hanged? How old is old enough to die by Gondor's rules.

I love the way Ferdi can't quite credit that it is he who is ill, not Pippin.

Author Reply: Quite a scary dream!

As to the fate of the boy, that will be revealed at a later time.

Thanks for commenting!

Interesting chapter. It is strange what the mind can concoct when one is ill. Poor Ferdi. He has to be one confused hobbit.

Thanks. Looking forward to where this is going.

Author Reply: Thanks! It's outlined, at least. I know where it's going, but as to *how* it gets there, that's still a little up in the air. Glad you're along for the ride.

Oh dear, trouble with Ruffians! I guess the Thain's hoard would be too great a temptations for some! I hope there isn't too much trouble, although I'm sure we have to have to have some before we can have one of those lovely endings ;) Ferdi would be the one to understand hanging, wouldn't he? I'm looking forward to another story! Thank you!

I wonder how Ferdi will react to that knowledge. For all he hates ruffians, I don't think he is really into large-scale executions either.

Typical reaction of men to the rumour of gold. I hope the little hobbit recovers.

The start of another exciting tale!

Yipes that's a grim image. Hanging bodies, serving as warning, ringing all the borders of the Shire. A few extra on the roads leading in, but just out of sight of the inhabitants? Makes me shiver as much as the hobbits would if they'd heard, I imagine. Ferdi doesn't object, for if anyone does he knows the evil these men could do and has no sympathy for them: he's not going to develop any for a long time, either. Ferdi really walks a thin line. He's sort of like Frodo: his experiences have marked him, made him different from the other hobbits, and that's not a comfortable place to be, at least not at this point in his life. He could have become harder and more bitter with time, but he didn't. Do you think it was Nell who made the difference for him, or Pippin?

Glads to see a new story starting so soon after Starfire was finished. You're going to keep right on spoiling us!

Author Reply: Thanks. I think it was mostly Nell who rehabilitated him, with a fair amount of Pippin-influence thrown in.

Will keep on spoiling as long as the Muse is willing to whisper.
