At last the end... And a great one at that... I liked how you let Merry tell it through his eyes of a letter...

Merry always the inventive mind makes a makeshift desk where he can carry about, and pippin laughs at him... He watches as Pippin is trying his hand at being a farmer, and finally got him some clothes made that fit him. Since opening the puzzle box he seemd to heal with it,he always will have days that are bad but now has the courage to fight it.
Of course it seems pippin dosen't like Merry's choice of Estella, but they tolerate each other, and Merry is very interested in her.
Sam is to marry Rosie soon, and was sent to spend time with them, the garden will look good if nothing more.
Amethest with someone she loves, well and good..I liked her character, she has spirit..
Pervincia is doing well, and pippin writes to her on his bad nights.
Of all things pippin and his Mum are writing to each other,a realationship forming that wasn't there before. Perhaps they understand each other better.

Pippin brought home a cow that is so skinny,he got it free..He would bring it in,and of course Merry wouldn't refuse hi. naming it Arwen,Aragorn would not like it.

Gimli writes to pippin,it is good friends keep in touch..

It was a story that even in dark places hope always resides in each of us....

All in all a great ending to a great story... Hope to hear other things from you.
Had a great time reading it,well worth each wait for the chapters...

Keep up the writing.....

What a very satisfying and lovely end to the story. I'm glad that Pippin is beginning to heal finally. I was beginning to get rather worried about him. I loved the description of him in his garden and with his little 'milk cow.' You did a great job of bringing the story full circle to where it started and then moving on from there. Well done. :)

Author Reply: Thank you and I am glad that you enjoyed it. I didn't mean for this one to go on as long as it did. I hope to write another little one involving the cow at some point. Thanks for the reviews and for reading!

Oh, now I finally have time to catch up on my reading and reviewing, and this story is ending! :( (Maybe I'll just have to hope for another one from you soon.)

This story is wonderful, with the insights into the readjustments all of the hobbits needed to make on their return home. I particularly appreciated Pippin's need to just "hide" at Crickhollow for a while; your insight into the subtleties of emotional adjustment is superb.

And the last chapter, told in Merry's letter that describes what everyone is doing who is moving on with their life, is wonderful in both style and content. The contrast to Frodo, the reader's, static life is there but it does not overshadow the wonderful fun and hopefulness in plans for Sam's wedding, Merry's courting, and Pippin's gardening...and his pet cow, LOL!

Author Reply: I am glad that you enjoyed this. Now that I am finished with it, I can read some of the lovely stories that have been post to the sight that I've been missing. I did notice that you have a new one, well, new to me anyway. I am glad that you liked Pippin's little milk cow. I could just see that somehow. I am also pleased that Frodo's situation came through in this without taking over the story. I did want to leave this one on a happy note. Thank you for all of your kind words and this lovely review.

Oh, how could Paladin do this! He couldn't even begin to imagine all that had happened to his son, and instead of offering him support, he punishes him! Oh, if only he knew...

Pippin had to come on the quest. If it wasn't for him, or any of the Fellowship, the War of the Ring would have been lost. That's all there is to it. Our four hobbits SAVED the Shire, and yet this is how they are treated.

Author Reply: My version of Paladin isn't too nice most of the time. I started him out as a less than understanding hobbit and he isn't improving in this story. He is very unfair to Pippin after all that he's done. Thank you for reading and for reviewing.

I can just see Pippin working in the garden - and bringing home the runt of the calves. I liked the line about (roughly) him paying what it was worth. Bet it grows up into a lovely heifer. (Apparent little Pip references there.)

Probably just as well that Amee has set her cap at Eldergard. Pervinca couldn't really work up much interest beyond friendship. And I'm glad Pippin and his mother are writing. That will increase his happiness as well as hers.

I enjoyed this story and I'm sorry to see it finish - but at least it stopped at a happy moment!

Author Reply: I am sure that Pip's cow will do just fine with a little love and lots of meals. LOL Glad you enjoyed this and I do appreciate all of the wonderful reviews that you left. I always try to end them happy and most of mine aren't this dark. I like it best when all is right with the Shire and the Hobbits. Thank you, again.

A good story, and I am *very* sorry it has ended.

And this is one of the best descriptions of Pippin that I have ever read: "Pippin eats everything that isn’t already in someone else’s mouth."

Thanks again.

Author Reply: And here I thought it was getting too long and that everyone must be bored by now. Thank you for reviewing and I am very glad you liked it. There may a sort of part two after the holidays if everything goes well. Thanks, again for reading!

*sigh* I wish it wasn't over already! I hope you have another story ready to make its way out here!

This was a wonderfu closing, Merry writing a letter to Frodo. Sounds to me like there are some stories that could still be told about life at Crickhollow. I would like to hear about this calf that Pippin has brought home! My Grammy had a little calf when she was a girl that followed her around, more than once it followed her and her sister to school! It also loved chocolate! I thought that was strange.

Also I was hoping that we would get to read about Sam's wedding! Guess we can't have everything. I found it amusing that Sam rather got kicked out of the house and sent to Crickhollow!

Anyway, I hope you have more to post sometime! Thank you for all of the fun!

Author Reply: I had thought a bit about doing Sam's wedding, but so many people have done such lovely verrsions of it that I chickened out on that part. LOL I just wasn't sure that I could do anything different with it.
I am thinking of writing some more about Crickhollow after the holidays and I have a bit written for the calf story so I may do a part II on this story.

Thank you so much for all of your lovely reviews and for reading this one. It has helped more than you know. I look forward to more of your stories also. Keep writing and take care!

Wow! I stay away for a few days and have not one but two lovely chapters to read! I love pensive Pippin and Merry's delicate handling of him, while still giving him the freedom to be alone if he so chooses. Gimli's box, and the sentiment contained therein, is sheer perfection. As is this story. Absolutely beautiful. I never want it to end. :-)

Author Reply: So pleased that you are enjoying this as I have enjoyed your stories very much. I hope this will finish my need to write about the puzzle boxes and so I am glad that you liked this one. Not much left of this one, but I am glad that you've enjoyed it. Thank you for the lovely reviews!
