Peregrin and Diamond  by Pearl Took 108 Review(s)
AspenJulesReviewed Chapter: 7 on 7/20/2006
I love protective Merry dragging Pip into a closet to demand of him what he thinks he's doing. I can understand how disgusted he'd be that Pip was up to the same old things, fearing he'd be hurt again.

Good for Pippin, though, pointing out how different she is, and how she acted. Rosie liking her really is a good thing, that Rosie is an uncommonly sensible lass.

And what a thoughtful set of surprises Pip's arranged, with Rosie's help. Such a clever lad, our Pippin.

Author Reply: Merry does keep more than an eye on his cousin. Much as things seem just as quick to Merry, the relationship had a much better start this time. Rosie and Sam are peas in a pod, full of good hobbit sense :)

Thank you, AspenJules!

Oh, and whatever *could* he have in mind for Diamond? She really should be aware of his reputation and be somewhat afraid, LOL.

Sounds like he's gained some good accomplices in Topaz and Aster now, though, LOL!

Author Reply: Read on and find out ;)

Oh that wicked Pippin!! He did a wonderful job on those two girls, though, especially Aster, teaching her a good lesson before moving on to some not-so-good lessons, LOL (at least for the two younger brothers!) What a treat for them to learn from the master of pranks!

I'm glad Isengrim is approving. It's fun to see how openly they discuss Pip's attraction to her. No game-playing here. Oh, and I really like your Pippin... he's masterful and vulnerable all at the same time. Oh, I'm liking this!

Author Reply: Thank you, AspenJules, for liking my Pippin :) :) You've made my day :) He's always willing to help out in anyway he can ;)

Awww, poor Diamond. What a rough time she's had, but what blessings it will pay off with. She's learned a lot about life already, enough that the flirting and silliness of the lasses is completely foreign to her, but which is exactly what Pippin will need in a wife.

Seems like their relationship is well along already - I dread the idea that there will be some snags to slow it down some.

Author Reply: She'll be in good hands in time :) Pippin sure does need someone steady.

Thank you, AspenJules :)

Pearl,
Great beginning! I'm loving this so far, though I felt so badly for Pippin when he got such a rude awakening from that horrid Persimonne witch. What a horrible thing to have to go through, and in front of all those people too! I could just feel for him, with his rage and his hurt and his embarassment. I'm glad that Merry understood him and what he was going through, but then Merry always does. I felt badly for Merry too, as his arm begins to hurt as Pip rides away. I'm glad Pippin thought to send him a quick post message.

I had to chuckle at the giggles they all got trying to move Pippin to the bigger bed. Sounds like something my family would have done. We were always collapsing into giggles at the most inappropriate times.

I'm glad I found this story. It looks to be a great way to pass a sleepless night.

Author Reply: Hi, AspenJules!

I'm glad you found this story as well :)

Yes, there's a rough start, some rough patches, but some others fun parts as well. I hope you continue to enjoy :)

Awww. What a chapter! My goodness, the "making sure" of Pippin's and Diamond's honour!

I do think it's a good idea that they're going to leave the Great Smials.

For a moment I thought the parents were going to propose that the wedding take place then-and-there!

VWD!

(Now I just need to go back and read all the previous chapters. Read this one out of order, but it was so well put-together I had no trouble picking up the threads.)

Author Reply: That's quite the compliment, Lin, that you could skip some chapters and have things still make sense. Thank you :)

The whispered conversation with Merry was one of the new additions, I'm glad it fit well :)

I think Pippin's refuge is a great deal more sensible than Diamond's. Although I suppose she is the one who is on alien territory. And isn't it amazing how so little can build into such a major kerfuffle!

Still - now Pippin gets a chance to rescue his beloved - and then nurture her, according to Merry's training, with warm blankets and ginger tea. And they can discover that making up almost makes the quarrelling worthwhile.

Author Reply: Pippin definitely has the advantage of knowing the lay of the land, so to speak. I've always found it interesting how often arguments do start over piddly little things.

You're quite prophetic . . .

Thank you so very much, dear Bodkin, for reading this story and responding so faithfully :)

First, I love the way you've discribed the library. I could just see it! I also enjoyed Pippin's talk with his father and the story about the red bedroom. I continue to look forward to each new chapter of this one.

Author Reply: Thank you! Dreamflower (my editor on this rewrite) said I should write a story about why the library has "man style" windows. I just might have to do that ;)

Thank you so much, m'dear GW, for staying with me on this story and for leaving responses :)

I *loved* this chapter! Hehehe...I love *every* chapter, but there was something very special here; couples overcoming their selfish desires to love their spouse/intended all the more. I wish that happened more often in RL.

I do like your Paladin--he's very resaonable, caring, and has no problem telling those he loves how much he loves them. The moment between him and Eglantine, him and Pippin was absolutely sweet! Got me misty. :-) I can see that your Eglantine is an extremely reasonable lady--she likes *red*! ;-)

I can't wait to see the younger couple get back together again!

Author Reply: Yes, it isn't the way RL often goes, more's the pity. There are authors who have written their Tooks (and other hobbits) more realistically, but I'm a sucker for happier Tooks and Brandybucks. I've always felt that Tolkien wrote his hobbits a bit idealistically, with exceptions like the S-Bs and Sandymans, but mostly easy going, happy, loving folk.

Red is a wonderful color ;)

Hopefully you'll have another chapter soon :)

Thank you so much, dear Pippinfan, for reading and responding so faithfully!

Oh dear. Nothing like taking two tired and stressed people and putting a spark between them - explosions inevitable.

Mind you, a few good rows before they get married aren't a bad thing! They don't want to be left with the illusion that their whole lives are going to be filled with marshmallow sweetness. And fighting and making up are a good way of seeing that this isn't one of those milk-and-water relationships.

But still ... I hope they make up soon. That wedding is looming closer!

Author Reply: Totally right. It's a good thing they learn that they both have a bit of temper and how to work things out before the wedding and the marriage. Yes, the wedding is coming soon and this has been a rather whirlwind courtship, so it's good to learn as much as they can about each other :)

Thank you so much, dear Bodkin, for reading and responding! :)
