Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Hobbits  by GamgeeFest 12 Review(s)

Aw, the dear lads! Even if the letters don't make it, they will have felt better for having written them.

It's amazing how the little things are what we miss.

Well done, GF :-)

Author Reply: That's the idea - that writing the letters will help them to feel better about leaving. They can finally say what they really want to say, what they couldn't say before they left. Even annoying older sisters can make you homesick under the right circumstances. lol

Thanks for reading!

This is a wonderful blending of your story, and Dreamflower's "book of manners"!

Bormoir broke off immediately for the hobbits were looking at him with expressions of horror and shock. He wasn’t sure what he had said to upset them so but he had a feeling that it was going to be something complicated.

“Do friends ever give gifts to the bryding or is it just relatives?” Boromir asked, as equally mind-boggled as Gimli. The hobbits had more rules for gift-giving than men did for engaging in warfare.

I just love that. The hobbits truly have developed quite a complex and rule-driven culture, but all of it is very logical... to *them*.

A lovely chapter, and a lovely letter.

Author Reply: I don't know about book manners, but my hobbits are polite in their own way. That is, when they're not robbing other hobbits of their breeches. LOL

Hobbits do have a lot of rules. They take something as simple as giving presents and make it an act of congress. If they have law books, this would take up an entire section! Their logic does not resemble our earth logic. ;) Though actually, I have to agree with them about not opening the gifts received in front of everyone. I always feel so insecure about the gifts I buy.

Thanks for the review!
