Elf, Interrupted: Book One: Glorfindel Redux  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)

If all of the Reborn and elves from Endorë are as bad as Glorfindel, Finrod and their friends, I fear some of the Valar are needing a long vacation very soon ... *grin*

It's amusing to see them poking out their tongues to the Valar and how upset others are by this, taking it for much more disrespectful than it is meant.

Meneldir proved to be rather arrogant and humourless and a bit too overbearing. He should be old enough to not take what happened earlier too seriously, but I have the feeling he did. He was rather nasty to all of them. And now he is probably even more furious after having been corrected by Irmó and Námo so publicly. But I have to admit to being very smug about the fact that Eärnur now is officially charged with learning Sindarin. Oh yes, I should probably be ashamed, but I enjoyed it very much to see Meneldir put firmly in his place by the Valar themselves!

Author Reply: Well, in Meneldil's defense, he remembers Finrod when he came to Lórien the first time and can't quite reconcile that image of him with the person he is now. Glorfindel and Finrod, of course, have an entirely different relationship with the Lord of Mandos than the Amaneldi (and even the Elves from Endórë living on Tol Eressëa) and it's difficult for others to appreciate that relationship and how, if anything, the Reborn are far more respectful than the Once-born, but they also have no fear of Námo, which is a deciding factor in the relationship that many of the Once-born have with him. Makes a big difference.

This is a wonderful surprise to come home to, and it's all about Findrod too! As much as I love hearing about Glorfindel it's nice to know you're not neglecting his friends:)

Change seems a hard thing for Master Meneldil to cope with, but I guess it would be easy to fall into a rut after doing the same job for a long time. It was amusing how he was taken aback by the thought of Eärnur just having a good time with his new friends rather than having a formal 'session'.

I was aware of the incredibly strong bond between Finrod and Laurendil from previous chapters, but it wasn't until Manwen pledged allegiance to Finrod that I realized how much intimacy and trust there was in this relationship.

Thanks for your dedication to the story.

Author Reply: When Laurendil entered the throne room in Tirion and said to Finrod, "You have my life", I thought it was a nice turn of phrase, but really didn't know what its true significance was. It wasn't until this chapter came to be written that the full implications of what Laurendil meant became apparent. Even I was taken aback by Manwen's actions. It was the last thing I expected her to do.
