Elf, Interrupted: Book One: Glorfindel Redux  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)

So happy that Ingwë and Glorfindel are reunited. Very good. Nice chappy, darling. Can't wait until the next!

I love that bit at the start about trying NOT to invoke Eönwë and his damnable book of oaths. I agree with Glorfindel on that, lol.

Author Reply: Glad you liked the chapter, Tira. I wonder how many *readers* will be careful of what oaths they swear from now on *lol*.

“It [the Crown of State] was white gold and mithril, intricately wrought in the shape of two stylized eagles facing one another, their wings closed.”

At first I misread this and thought it said, “two STERILIZED eagles”. First I wondered why the heck the eagles were sterilized and then I wondered how the heck Glorfindel could have told that at such a distance?! Keen are the eyes of the elves, but really! And what would be the symbolic significance of sterilized eagles in a crown? It was so hard to finish reading the chapter after that misunderstanding on my part...

I know, this is not the sort of review you were expecting...

I must admit I enjoy your stories immensely – even when I misread them.

Author Reply: Well I hope you reread the chapter without the distraction of sterilized eagles staring at you so you can post a proper review. *rofl* "Sterlized eagles... Sounds like something out of Monthy Python... and we won't even go there!

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the story immensely. Hopefully the next chapter will be easier for you to read.

Well, I never saw that coming! Although I certainly should have now that I think about it. It was only right for Ingwe to ask for forgiveness. It was the only true way to restore their relationship and he had certainly hurt Glorfindel and damaged their relationship. (As an a side note, I really cried through through that section because I have two brothers who need to humble themselves and ask forgiveness of each other like that so that life in our family can have some sort of normalcy and I despair of it ever happening. sigh) Finrod was right and Glorfindel absolutely needed to wear his braids again, even if only to show the people there that he was fully restored to his former position.

Interesting how Finrod was introduced! Ingwe is really recognizing and accepting who he is, isn't he? I loved Sador's comment that perhaps Glorfindel had also been released too early from Mandos. Will we find out why Sador has been released early? I assume that we will at some point, and I know that Orome at least has plans for him. Perhaps I should just be patient, huh? :)

Thanks for another wonderful chapter!

Author Reply: Surprised you didn't I? *grin* Glad you liked the chapter. It wasn't enough for Glorfindel to ask for forgiveness but Ingwë needed to as well, though I suspect that no one there, including Ingwë himself, knew he was going to do what he did until he did it.

The reasons for Sador's early release will be made clear eventually, but not immediately. Remember, patience is a virtue and will be rewarded, I promise.

It is very nice to see Ingwe apologize as well. Though what he did may have been necessary, enough hurt had been caused by it. I do find it funny that Alassiel still isn't speaking to him. *grins*

I love this story. Can't get enough of it. You make me love these characters so much that I actually FINISHED the Silmarillion, and instead of yawning and struggling through it, LOVED every word, so much that I bought it on audio CD to listen to again at work. I swear *looks around nervously for Eonwe* stories like this are going to turn me into a 1st age author! *grin*

Thank you so much for sharing such an incredible story. I'm also waiting on the edge of my seat *fell off a couple times* for the next chapter of the Wars of the Valar. *applause*

NiRi

Author Reply: Thanks NiRi. I appreciate your reviews (of all my stories *grin*). I'm glad that my writings have inspired you not only to read and finish the Silmarillion but to actually enjoy reading it and see just what a marvelous piece of literature it truly is.

And I look forward to reading any First Age stories you care to write *grin* because of it.

Not to worry... there should be a new Wars of the Valar up before the end of the week.

Glorfindel muttered an oath or two as he waited to be summoned, being careful not to invoke either Eru, the Valar or even Ingwë’s name for fear of having Eönwë show up with that damnable Book of his *snicker* Love that! I’m sure, knowing how that works out, they will be a bit more careful about oaths in the future.

Hmmm ... so Ingwë got a tongue-lashing from everyone on Glorfindel’s behalf? Have to admit I find that satisfying – you know already how I think about his treatment of Glorfindel, don’t you?
And I am glad to know he apologised to Glorfindel so publicly, too. It’s raising my esteem of Ingwë again. And Glorfindel has his braids back :-))

I’m glad this matter is finally out of the way and Ingwë and Glorfindel are hopefully able to be – or become – friends again, as it would make things easier for both of them.

Author Reply: I'm glad that Ingwë is starting to be in your good graces again. He really isn't a bad elf, just lacking in judgment at this particular juncture. Luckily, he isn't so arrogant that he can't learn from his mistakes and seek to correct them as he does here with Glorfindel.

It is important that Ingwë and Glorfindel become friends again... important for themselves as well as for Aman.
