Elf, Interrupted: Book One: Glorfindel Redux  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 141 on 12/3/2007
It’s good to see how many of the Valar are taking care of our Reborn. And it gives a good impression of the Valar themselves, too. Not to mention the Maiar – I’m still grinning about what Manveru thought when he wanted to use his sword.

Yea, what would our lives be like without someone like Glorfindel to brighten our days Rather boring, I suspect ;-)

As for shopping, here I have to agree with NiRi. The only one shops save the grocery I’m entering without absolute, unavoidable need are book shops!

Oh, poor Vorondil. He doesn’t deserve what he’s going through now, as nothing of it is his own fault. I am glad Tiutalion turned up when he did and prevented him from harm – at least bodily harm.

Have to agree with Námo – Nienna *is* naughty. Maybe he should have cast a spell on the mirror instead of on the poor ellyn to prevent her from spying on them! *grin*

Hm ... I am a bit surprised about Almáriel – she’s treating her daughter like an elfling, though Amarië is certainly too old for that. Why do I doubt Finrod will be happy when he learns about that? Though I can *so* see Amarië climbing out of the window, and with the help of her father, too! Glad Castamir put a stop to this in time.

And now you managed to leave me on the edge *again*! The last sentence is rather worrying, as is the translation of the chapter title. As I said before, I always had the feeling something would happen with the bad guys, and now I fear the worst. They’re stupid enough to try something even right under the nose of the Valar. Nasty cliffhanger! More soon, please? You surely don’t want me to die from curiosity and suspense, do you?

Author Reply: Just because you don't like to shop (I don't either, unless, like you, it's a bookstore), doesn't mean that Alassiel doesn't like to shop and how do you know that Manwen didn't take her to a smithy to order a new set of greaves for herself? *grin* There's shopping and there's shopping.

Hopefully once Vorondil is at Nienna's she and her People will be able to help him to recover his self-esteem and give him a sense of worthiness that is now lacking. And Aldundil can do with some healing as well.

Nienna is indeed naughty, but I don't think her brothers would be able to put a glamour on her being a fellow Vala. Easier to do it on the unsuspecting ellyn. *grin*

What can I say? Almáriel is a control freak and has always resented the fact that her daughter would not return to Vanyamar after Finrod left.

Well, as for the last chapter... you'll find out just how worried you should be.

Naughty Nienna! *giggle* I enjoyed this chapter because it tied up some loose ends I was wondering about. Great writing. Now I can't wait for the next chapter.

Author Reply: Naughty Nienna, indeed! *grin* Glad you liked the chapter. I felt it necessary to give everyone (including me) a breather and tie up a few loose ends before the final confrontation between Finrod and Glorfindel. Next chapter will be posted this weekend.

I can’t stay up all night to review this, so you’ll get one review now and one later (poor you!). And this one is another of those weird topics that nobody but me will be commenting on....

“Vairë was most pleased when she saw that they had invented looms all on their own, crude though they were.” -- Because of “Wars of the Valar,” I’ve wondered just *when* Vairë took up fiber arts. And if I haven’t said so in a review for that story, it’s interesting that Acairis (popularly assumed to be Ungoliant) began as one of *Vairë’s* Mayar -- because of the fiber arts connection (even if neither Vairë nor Ungoliant did any spinning or weaving until considerably later).

And that leads to another interesting thought (I don’t know if JRRT ever said anything about it or not). Morgoth and his pals were harassing, kidnapping, and presumably also *killing* elves long before Oromë showed up at Cuiviénen and Officially discovered the Firstborn. [Because after all, it’s impossible to imagine Morgoth *not* killing elves from the moment he first got the chance. *shudder*] So that would mean that traumatized elven fëar would have been showing up in Mandos *before* Oromë had Officially given the other Valar the news that the Firstborn had in fact been born.

Well, okay, Námo’s a sly one. I’ll just assume he was waiting for Oromë’s discovery before telling the other Valar. But what a horrible way to find out the Firstborn had appeared!

And meanwhile Vairë had begun weaving.

Author Reply: Obviously, there is no need for fiber arts a this point in Wars of the Valar, though once Arda is created and the Valar settle in, she will begin to develop that skill. I think at the moment, she is busy "weaving" her love of Eä and Atar and Námo into the "fabric" of the universe, "knitting" the structures together into a coherent whole.

As for the whole thing about what Námo knew... eventually that, too, will be shown.

Yay! This is going to be awesome! A nice little rest. I'm ready for some action, now!

Author Reply: I'm sure everyone is chomping at the bit waiting for the final battle between FInrod and Glorfindel. Not long now.

It is nice to see Beleg and Sador doing a bit of bonding in the company of Orome and Vana.

--Sador and Beleg grinned and held out their plates but Oromë got there first with his own plate, laughing at his beloved’s look of exasperation as she dished him out a slice. --

LOL! I really enjoy Oromë and Vana.

--The Maia resisted a sigh, really wishing that he could just take his sword and... well, that wouldn’t really solve anything, though it might make him feel better... for about ten seconds, just before Lord Manwë came down on him like a Valarauco in a bad mood.--

LMAO! I really like these two brothers! They are just delightful.

It's funny really, men seem to think that a shopping trip is the key to brightening a woman's day. Say shopping to me and you will see me run screaming in the opposite direction, probably with a fishing pole. *grin* I'm glad it made Alassiel's day however. A lady's day out. How quaint.

Wow, I just love these Maiar that continually show up. Your characterizations of them all are so unique, they are very much individuals. Tiutalion is growing on me too. *grin* I wasn't overly fond of him to begin with, but seeing him in this role was rather nice.

*sighs* I had so hoped Vorondil and Aldundil would have some peace but should have known that wouldn't happen before they get to Nienna's. I fear the ramnifications of this and the end of the tournament. I have a really bad bad feeling that it will not be a normal fight, but may be interrupted. I am glad Tiutalion was there to help and Finrod was wise enough to ask for protection for the ellyn. (Ha! I almost wrote ellons. *snickers*)

Okay, is there any chapter in this story without someone naked? LOL! Nienna was just too funny for words. Of course, the Valar see the body itself as clothing so it's a bit different. (though I wouldn't mind being near that mirror... *grin*) This makes me wonder though if the Elves first contact with Oromë was with a naked Vala? *straight face* And the Feanturi feed them and send them to bed like good elflings so they can play in the afternoon. Awwwww. *grin* I have no doubt they needed it. And the Valar's running dialogue behind the scenes was charming. It is nice to get more of the big picture in this manner.

I have wondered where Amarië has been. LOL! How can such a nice person have such a mean spirited mother? Ah yes, DADS! They come in handy.

Now, mellon nin, I am really wondering if I will have ANY nails left after the next chapter. The Calm before the Storm doesn't sound good at ALL! EEK! I am both dreading and anticipating what is to come and knowing you will enjoy every moment of our suspense and cries of protest. *grin*

Great chapter.

NiRi

Author Reply: Ah, a long review! I just love them *grin*

Well, I didn't specify *what* kind of shopping these two did. They may well have ended up at the smithy or the leatherworks looking at swords or gambesons or whatever instead of laces and ribbons and pretty shiny things. *LOL* And don't forget the culture in which these people live... shopping was something that did not occur everyday, except perhaps for food. Alassiel has also been cooped up in the encampment all week minding the elflings. A little "girl-time" is what she needs right now and Finrod recognizes that, canny ellon that he is.

Oromë and Vána are becoming more real for me as well and are fun to write.

As for how Oromë appeared to the elves the first time... we'll probably see that in Wars but not for some time. Gotta create Arda first. *LOL*

And the final chapter is coming up soon and then you'll know if you will have any nails left to bite after that. *grin* Thanks for the review... did I tell you I just LOVE long reviews? *grin*
