Walking the Tightrope  by Bodkin 13 Review(s)

Ah--satisfying indeed! She wished plain-speaking, and that she got, once both were able to listen instead of fear and feel frustration come out as anger.

I'm so glad Haldir was able to speak out at last and allow himself to persuade her.

And the machinations of Glorfindel and Celebrian--and the grief for those who have passed beyond the Bounds of Arda--are marvelously described.

Author Reply: I'm afraid I tend to see Haldir as a little ... emotionally delayed. He knew what he intended - and couldn't really see the problem.

Glorfindel - in my version of the world - grew very fond of Curaniel when she was in Gondor as Arwen's sole elven female companion. He would want to ensure that she was happy in love! (Especially since he has relatively recently discovered the joys of love for himself.)

Thank you, Larner.

'He is an ellon.’ The lady’s smile widened. ‘Of course he is dense. Their naivety is part of their charm.’

You can cross oceans, continents and time-warps. But the males are just the same!

I like your Haldir, I doubt he would have dressed up in red armor!

Very nicely done.LBJ

Author Reply: Thank you, LBJ. I can't really imagine that the gender divide didn't exist among elves ... Glad you liked it.

Bodkin, I think this is the first Haldir fanfic I have ever read! I'm usually afraid to see what some of the other fanfic writers handle Haldir in their fics, but yours is an exception. THis is really good. What does Curaniel mean?

Are you getting farther in 'a darkness lies behind us'?

Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: There are Haldir-fics - although I admit I don't generally seek them out. For a variety of reasons!!

The poor elf is a little clueless, to my mind, when it comes to dealing with girls. And just a bit parochial. But, since he's been in the west, his leaders have been working on polishing him up and it might be working!

Curan, according to my sources, means crescent moon - so I suppose Curaniel is moon-daughter. (I have a list of potential names, because I find seeking the right name for a character can take hours of poring over Sindarin or Quenya dictionaries. Fun, though.)

A Darkness is on my list. I will get more done, but I need to reread it to get in the mindset.

Thank you, Alquawende.
