Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 16 Review(s)

ummm... oops? That's a great ending. It seems that what they see in the 10th dimension is at least slightly affected by their own experiences. Very interesting. Great chapter!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the ending. Thanks.

I'm very curious as to how Glorfindel's pendant will help him and Finrod return. Why wasn't Glorfindel supposed to learn about Earendil? How did Finrod know it was Earendil, because I thought Finrod was in Lorien or Mandos when the War of Wrath took place and the Second Age began? I don't like the sound of the place you put them at all. It, honestly, gives me the creeps reading it sometimes, and Glorfindel being unsure about it too, really doesn't help. ^_^!

Thanks for writing and I can't wait for the next update!

Author Reply: Well I can't answer some of your questions without giving away the plot, but the question about what Finrod knew and when did he know it is easy enough to explain: while it is true that he was still in Mandos at the time of the War, once he got out and looked upon the night sky once more and noticed a brigth star on the horizon that wasn't there before he would have asked about it and would have been given the story. But as to why Glorfindel doesn't know about it... we'll find out later.

And I accidently answered your complaint about the tenth dimension in my response to someone else's review. Sorry about that.

I do hope that Namo recovers from this unexpected revalation without scareing either of the ellon too much *g*

Wonderful chapter as always, and am looking forward to more soon

Author Reply: Námo is a bit put out at the moment but he's a Vala so he'll recover quickly enough. *grin* Not sure we can say for our intrepid duo, though. We'll see in the next chapter.

'I trust Ilúvatar will not abandon you here for all time.' THAT is definitely my hope too!

Im very touched that one of the first thoughts from Finrod was for others. 'The elflings and Vorondil?'

I don't know how on earth Namo can say this with ANY confidence... 'Do not worry, no harm can come to you here, I assure you.' The Valar don't seem to be able to control or contain much of anything lately!!!

Oh dear! Isn't this always the way!!! 'I can hear myself ranting but I can’t seem to stop myself.'

I found reading this - sad. 'Glorfindel frowned. "D-do you think the... ban still applies here?' Glorfindel is still under the ban? How difficult for him.

Oh dear! Forgive me for laughing, Lord Namo - but it is always fun to find YOU disconcerted! "Melkor’s balls!" ... Námo scowled, looking directly at Glorfindel. "You weren’t supposed to know about Eärendil for centuries yet."

GREAT chapter...

Author Reply: Finrod is always thinking of others, especially those in his care, which is why he's so noble and generous of spirit (as Tolkien tells us).

Well, Námo telling them not to worry is based on his own experiences in the tenth dimension. There really is nothing there to threaten them. It's the uncanniness of the situation that makes it seem threatening to them.

I think we've all been in Glofindel's shoes: we can hear ourselves saying something stupid and yet we can't stop ourselves for some reason. It's as if someone else has taken control of our vocal chords, or something.

Manwë has not yet officially summoned Glorfindel to Ilmarin, so until he does, Glorfindel is still forbidden to go there.

I rather enjoyed seeing the normally unflappable Lord of Mandos lose it. *teehee* We'll see in the next chapter what that is all about. Thanks for reviewing.

Hm, this is starting to get interesting. How did the Valar expect to hide Erendil from Glorfindel, his Silmaril is kind of bright and Glorfindel was bound to notice him, or was he? Oh and Amarie is going to be a little upset if they don't get Finrod back in time for the wedding and yes, I know it is not for a few years yet, but who knows how time runs in the 10th dimension!
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Time runs pretty much the same in the tenth dimension as it does in our own, though there might be some discrepancies so it may seem to them that they are not gone as long as they are when they get back to Aman, but it won't be years, more like a few days off.

Loved the talk between Námo and Finrod at the beginning. Glad our dear elf has not lost his humour, in spite of everything.

The end was *very* interesting. I'd waited for so long for someone to mention Eärendil to Glorfindel, and now Finrod did. What I'd not expected was that Glorfindel couldn't see the star. Does that mean that the Valar made Eärendil invisible for Glorfindel? Not very nice, and I am not sure Glorfindel will take it well, either.

But that gives me an idea. When Eärendil is existing in this other dimension, too, maybe he could bring them back on Vingilot? *That* would be rather spectacular *grin*

Author Reply: We will learn (more or less) in the next chapter why Glorfindel can't see Eärendil or why he's never mentioned it before. As for where they are -- it's the tenth dimension. There's nothing there, and that's what makes it uncomfortable for them, especially Glorfindel in his state. As to how they return to Aman proper, that remains to be seen....

Author Reply: Oops! I seemed to have answered Alqualondë's objections to the tenth dimension here instead. Hope it doesn't confuse you too much. Sorry about that.
