Very Nearly The Beginning...  by Grey Wonderer 44 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 2 on 6/27/2008
Ah--how satisfying! Poor little bunny--but now he's a Elf's bunny, and is beloved as it ought to be. It does sound, however, as if these children were Hobbit children--so sad to think Hobbit children could be so naughty!

Poor Titch--hope he grew into a responsible adult!

Author Reply: Errol did have a rocky start of it but I do think it turned out well for him. Oh, and those were human children. I really should have said so but didn't. It would seem that Errol was with the big folk for a time. This happened near Rivendell so no hobbits were about.

To answer your question about Titch, look at Llinos' review of this chapter. It seems that Knitted-Merry has done a gap-filler within the review and given us a bit of news about Titch. It's very good.

Thank you for reading and reviewing.

I thought I recognized this! And I'd love to know the name myself! Heh!

Author Reply: See, a prologue that folks aren't supposed to read and a first chapter that is a repeat! I really do need medication for something. But it's summer so a repeat or two is to be expected.

Oh, I'm so glad to get more information on our beloved Errol! Love the non-creative creativity of the prologue! And I don't listen either, do I? Heh!

Author Reply: Personally, I only hear the voices inside of my head. Listening can be over-rated. Hope you enjoy the story.

“No, much remains of what he was, in fact most of the original toy was saved,” her Ada said. “It has just been improved upon and cleaned and repaired.

You know what? That's how I imagine Frodo's healing in the West. *beams*

Author Reply: Elves healed Errol and we know they healed Frodo too. I love that about Elves. They always make things better. : )
If Errol had stayed with the Elves then he might have sailed too. Then again, he'd probably have stayed with Arwen in Minas Tirith. Thank you for reading.

“Well?” Merry insisted.

“His name is Errol,” Pippin said looking slightly cheeky.

Young or old, I like my hobbits cheeky!

Author Reply: Me too. I can't imagine them any other way.

Oh, GW, what a delightful "nearly beginning" for Errol! Arwen is such a brave little child, and I can easily see her being furious at seeing the poor little toy being misused. I just love the way you've characterized her in this.

I feel bad for poor little Titch, though. Clearly he did love his rabbit too. Big brothers can be such bullies sometimes. I'll bet Bob and Fred will think twice about doing that sort of thing to him anymore, though! They might be afraid his Elven guardian would return.

It would be nice to see more of Errol's early adventures with his little Elven mistress...

And I'm still wondering how he fell into hobbit hands. Hmm...could Bilbo have brought him to the Shire after that incident with the dragon? or...???

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it. This one has been a very long time in coming. I was supposed to write this ages ago but for some reason the story got all stubborn on me. I'm glad you enjoyed Arwen. My experience with Elves is very limited so I wasn't certain that the Elves would turn out well. Llinos helped a great deal there.
Knitted Merry has revealed a bit about Titch in Llinos' review of this chapter. You should read his gap-filler because it will clear things up for you. I felt better after reading it.

I don't know if I will be able to write more about Errol's time with Arwen but I have thought about it...

I do still need to get Errol to tell me how he wound up in the Shire. I know how Pippin comes by him but I have no idea about the rest. I'm thinking of asking Knitted-Merry is Errol refuses to talk about it. Your guess about Bilbo might just turn out to be part of it all.

Thank you for reading and I am looking forward to more "Road To Edoras" so don't spend too much time reading. hehehe

Huzzah for Errol! Loved the story. :)

Author Reply: Well, hello stranger! It's so good to hear from you again. I hope you are well. I love it when you review because you were one of the very first people ever to review anything of mine. You encouraged me a great deal when I was just beginning to write. I thank you for that and I'm glad you enjoyed this. Errol is very glad too and sends hugs.

Thank you so much for writing this for me! I have been waiting to read this story for ages and I am so chuffed that you wrote it for me for my birthday! I think you did a marvelous job with the characterisations, especially Arwen. You write elves with the same skill that you write hobbits! I'd like to see more stories with Arwen and Errol!

I am so glad to finally know just how it was that Errol became Arwen's rabbit! Thank Errol for me too, and thanks to Llinos for the beta!

Hugs!

Author Reply: Hullo there! I do hope the birthday was a good one and that you got lots of presents and cake and maybe some pop tarts? : )
I'm so glad you liked this. It took its own sweet time turning up that's for certain. I will have to do some thinking before I write more adventures for Arwen and Errol and I will have to research Elves or perhaps I can get Llinos and Errol to research the Elves?
Thank you for all of your support and for keeping me in line with the stickses. You are a wonderful friend.
Errol is very pleased that you enjoyed your birthday story and he sends a hug.

Happy Birthday again,

GW

PS Did you read KM's story about Titch?

Very nice! :) Finally a new story from you! I am not an experienced elf-reader *g*, but for my feeling you wrote them very well and I really enjoyed the story.
Wow, Errol is really very veeeery old!
I just wonder, when Pip has died in Minas Tirith ( like you wrote in that other great story) does Arwen then again keps Errol or does Errol finds an end with Pippin, sleeping forever in his Tomp?

Happy Birthday from me too Marigold! Hope you have a great day!

Hugs, Golden

Author Reply: I am so glad that you enjoyed this and that you liked the Elves in it. As you know I mostly write Hobbits and stuffed Rabbits so the Elves were something new for me.
Errol is very old and I think that is why he has so many stories to tell.

As to what happened to Errol when Pippin was gone, if you read "Freddy and The Thain's Rabbit" the answer to that is in that story. You may be surprised.

Take care, Golden and thank you for this lovely review!

What a wonderful story of Errol's nearly beginning!

I loved brave Arwen, mischievous brothers, kind and fatherly Elrond -- and of course the star of the show. Arwen was curious about mortals even at this age, I see. And I know she'll love and care for Errol for many years.

The cruelty of the older mortal boys, though upsetting, was well written. I'm sure we all know boys who act that way. I'm sorry the younger boy had to lose his beloved pet/toy, but we'll hope that he gets over the loss as well as Errol seems to have done.

And now ...

Now Errol has a new, Elvish name and a new, Elvish nature -- and who knows what adventures he may have!

Hugs,
Mum

Author Reply: Hello, Mum! I've eaten all of the brownies now so I am full and happy. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed Arwen and the twins and Elrond. I am not at all experienced in writing about Elves so it is good to know that someone enjoyed them.

If you will read Llinos' review of this chapter you can find out a bit more about Titch. Knitted-Merry has written a bit on that subject in Llinos' review and I think you'll be pleased.

Hugs to you from Errol and me!

GW
