Poor Merry! But it's just another illustration that no sacrifice is too great if it helps Frodo.... I've actually been re-reading "By Chance or Purpose" (as I probably do once every year or two, it being one of the best fanfics of all time), so I do remember Pip going all starry-eyed at the mere thought of Arwen; the clomping boots will be a sacrifice indeed. But what sacrifice will Sam have to make? Oddly, contemplating poor Merry, I got a mental picture of Alfalfa from "The Little Rascals" -- well, his hair, anyway; Alfalfa certainly doesn't look like a hobbit. [Hated that series as a child....] Author Reply: I hope poor Merry didn't look as comical as Alfalfa! What a fun thing to remember. I'm always happy to hear that folks are re-reading older stories. I was so proud of "By Chance or Purpose". *beams and hugs you*

What a lovely letter that would be to receive. Author Reply: Thank you. It's fun to imagine Pippin writing it and Gloin receiving it.

Wow, Pippin knows how to write a formal letter! I'm impressed. But he wouldn't be Pippin if he hadn't added an informal postscript :-) I'm sure they will enjoy the Longbottom Leaf! Author Reply: Thank you. I tried to show a balance between the serious nature of this letter and Pip's natural Tookish exuberance. :)

I love this letter, formal as one would expect from the future Thain but also full of respect and admiration for his friend and the warmest is the P.S. - very Pippin like at the end. Going to be taking my usual Lenten fast from hobbity reading so look forward to catching up after Easter! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Thank you for reading, Antane. I can imagine Gimli blustering with equal parts embarrassment and pleasure if he found out about this letter.

"Truants"!! love it! thanks for the smile. (Lin, who saw this on LJ yesterday but couldn't resist re-reading this morning) Author Reply: Thank you, Lin! I love when Gimli calls Merry and Pippin "woolly-footed and wool-pated truants" in the book. :)

These tiny tales are adorable! Full of such love and caring. (I'm sure Faramir will be grateful to Sam teaching Eowyn how to cook!) Author Reply: Thank you very much. It's very difficult to find time for writing a full story at the moment, but I can manage a drabble now and then. :)

Loved these little snippits when I read them on your LJ, it is so nice to have them all together here. Huggs and Scrits, Lynda Author Reply: Thank you, Lynda. :)

Perfect fun for Halloween. I think that I read somewhere that spiderwebs used to be used as a kind of plaster so perhaps they ought to have brought Aragorn the evidence! *grin* Author Reply: Those were fun prompts to use, and of course I had to involve hobbits. :)
