Celeritas' Birthday Bash 2011  by Celeritas 73 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 14 on 7/30/2011
What a wonderful encounter! Yes, at this point in time, Sam's trying very hard to "keep his place", and of course, Pippin's having none of it, because in his mind Sam's already a friend. And he's a Took and does as he pleases.

(And yes, Pip, he's busy at midnight. But he won't want to be teased.)

And a very nice picture of the two walking along beneath the stars in companionable silence...

Author Reply: He won't want to be teased, yes, and if Sam isn't allowed to know whom the gentry are pursuing, he doesn't see why Pippin should have to know what he's up to. I think Rosie remained silent through much of the Red Book due to Sam's own ability to keep a secret.

These are very good! They are in the grand tradition of Anglo-Saxon riddlery, and though I have a possible clue to the first one, the second one is really hard. I will have to think a long time about that one...

Author Reply: Well, don't go back through the reviews, then--Armariel guessed the second one near enough.

Aww...that was sweet. And very Pippish as well.

Especially this line:
Unlike several hobbits of his acquaintance, Pippin understood that part of the importance of dressing up was having a proper occasion for it.

I can see Pippin having a sentimental attachment to items of clothing, less for what those items are than what they represent.

And of course, the main reason he cherished this one is found in your first sentence...

Author Reply: Thanks so much. It's pretty clear that this particular item of clothing had a lot of good memories attached to it.

Oh how lovely! *sniffle*

Author Reply: I think it really must have been tough on old Gimli to sail, but the result was worth it.

These are brilliant! I've often been fascinated by accounts of how Celeborn reacted to the two of the Three that were in his family.

These two drabbles show very well why he was accounted one of the Wise, though he had no Ring at all.

Author Reply: I think Celeborn's Ringlessness made it even more important for him to be on the White Council, lest everyone else's ideas be led astray by overconfidence.

Wonderful! Yes, this is the sort of reaction she would have! She'd be so glad to see Celebrian again, but allow her that moment of reunion with Elrond first.

Author Reply: I think for that moment, at least, Galadriel would be content knowing that her daughter did, indeed, get better.

Oh my! This is incredibly...romantic.

Author Reply: I'm still astonished I wrote it, quite frankly.

Splendid! You've captured these two character so well through Celeborn's eyes. I really like how the Rings had a different effect on each of Celeborn's family members, yet the end result seemed to be the same. A haunting picture here, Celeritas. Thank you so much!

Author Reply: Thank you for the prompt! It was an idea worth exploring!

What a sweet idea, that Aragorn had a foresight about Sam's marriage! Which seems only too possible.

And I am also sure that the brydlop song is about as earworm-y as "Apple Pies", and if Aragorn learns it, he may regret it.

It may also make him VERY glad he's keeping his own wedding plans secret. I can imagine Merry and Pippin wanting to sing it at him and Arwen. Though I am uncertain as to whether Frodo would disapprove, or join in the plan...

Author Reply: Aragorn may learn it, but he also would like to know what exactly he just enabled.

And Merry and Pippin may still sing it at both of them! Depending on what time of day A&A married, they'd have a good bit of time to come up with something at the last minute. (I checked, and Arwen arrives the day before they actually get married.)

This is wonderful. I think you hit upon how Boromir must have been feeling, after coming so far North. More than even Frodo and Co, I think he must have felt entirely out of his element. And I'm sure Bilbo's 'educating' didn't help matters at all. Perfect!

Author Reply: He really must have. I don't think Bilbo's 'educating' helped at first, but Bilbo did mean well, after all, and traveling with so many people from so many different cultures would create possibly an even worse shock. I really do think he'd be better off learning about the North earlier than later.

Thanks!
