Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)

Whoa, what a chapter. Something that started out so happy-go-lucky turned malevolent by the end. Alex's name was a shock, totally unexpected, and it is disturbing that he didn't contact anyone about the 9:00 am meeting. So, our earstwhile 'hero' may end up experiencing more of Elurin's life than anyone might think. But the trees have sheltered him before... Ah well, i'll just have to be patient...

Author Reply: Hi Erulisse. Alex is very much a loner and used to not having back up, so calling on the Elves isn't something he would do automatically in a situation such as this. As to what happens when he and Farrell meet... well, we'll find out soon enough.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Fun and games - and the Valar added a small touch of their own to the fun, what with arranging for the "right" Nom d' Elf for Alex. And I guess that from Glorfindel's statements, Maglor won't be making an appearance, even by proxy.
The reasoning behind the "reserved" names is sound - who would want to be saddled with a name like Maeglin or Eöl? I suppose those names aren't bad in themselves, it is more the history associated with them. And I'd guess that half the reason for Glorfindel reserving Eluréd and Elurín's names is that he feels avuncular or big-brotherly about them, due to the time he spent with them in Mandos. Not that he would want to talk about that, I think. But at least Alex' reaction to his Nom d' Elf was perfect. :-D
And now Alex has met one of the Maiar as well (and Fionwë was wearing his usual Medieval getup, but the flaming sword was at least in its scabbard). That went fairly well - at least he did not faint or get a fit - and his little remark, "So what does that make me, besides very confused?" is perfection itself.

Uh-oh - now what is Farrell up to??

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. It amazes me how many people have Maglor on their minds, but no, in this particular story, he makes no appearance, even by proxy.

And it does make sense that certain names would not be used because of the conotation attached to them, even though the names themselves are not bad. And I suspect that Glorfindel's reasons for leaving out Elurín and Eluréd's names are as you say.

Fionwë does know how to be circumspect if he wants to be. *grin*

As for Farrell... we'll find out in the next chapter what he's up to.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
