OK, I'll go with the refrain for this story - Poor Alex!
Great rescue story and i am glad that the trees cared enough to help.
This reminds me of a very old song about whispering trees.

Author Reply: Hi harrowcat. Glad you liked the rescuse and the trees. Poor Alex, indeed, and we're not through with him yet! LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Another set of "Fun and games with an Elvish twist"?
Poor Alex - again. :-p You are really quite hard on your characters, Fiondil! Glorfindel also got knocked out - or fainted - almost every other chapter in EI 1 and 2 (or so it seemed) and it is the same with Alex in this story. ;-)
The tumble certainly knocked Alex' wits loose - hope he won't _remain_ a few shy of a happy meal. Though he hasn't been acting very smart during much of the story. Obviously it is Derek who has the brains and smarts in this story!
At least Alex had managed to rattle off an e-mail to Shanna Machell before he rattled his brains loose of its moorings. It will be interesting to see what will come of that.
Is Alex going to have more interesting dreams? It would seem to be a waste to not make use of such a convenient knock on the head... ;-)

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Yes, another "Fun and games with an Elvish twist. And as the song goes, you only hurt the ones you love. *grin* Alex will recover well enough though he's not quite out of the woods yet as we will see. As for Alex's dreams, I can't really say at this point. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Dearest meldonya, I just want you to know that I'm sitting here crying. Heartwrenching is truly the only appropriate description of this chapter. I know we all keep saying "Poor Alex", but in this case the adjective was well-deserved. I'm very glad he wasn't too severely injured--physically, at least.

Alex's stubbornness reminds me of a certain Ranger-turned-King and I admit that I'm curious about whether "Junior" was just due to delirium and hallucinations caused by Alex's injuries or if a certain Maia or two were involved just so that Alex's survival instinct would raise its head in time to save him. Either way, I'm very glad that he's safe among friends again.

Now I''m going to go dig out my new box of Kleenex and get to work. Gorgeously, written, meldonya (and I'm sure that every emotion this chapter wrung out of me, it was ten times more so for you). Take care and bless you!

Edlyn

Author Reply: Hi Edlyn. It was heartwrenching to write. I so felt for Alex as he struggled to finish the race. As for "Junior" who can truly say? I have no doubt Maiar were looking out for him. They couldn't prevent what happened but maybe they helped cushion the blow.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate if very much.

And (almost) everything is all right again. I have to admire Alex' determination to finish the race, thought it was a stupid thing to do.

Junior... Did the Maiar do something to Alex' dreams again while he was unconscious, or did he only now remember the older dream?

Author Reply: Hi someone. Yeah, Alex is pretty stubborn, but I think he needed to finish that race for his own sake. As for Junior... perhaps the Maiar were responsible for that or perhaps Alex's own subconscious took over and a residual of the dream made its self known to him. Does it really matter which?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read and review. I greatly appreciate it.

Deeply moving chapter. I love it when mortals show the elves real determination. Hope I am the first to ask "who is junior".

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. I'm glad you found this chapter moving. Junior appeared in Alex's dream that he had in the previous chapter, in case you've forgotten. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.
