"Do they even have Verizon in Valinor?"

*gigglesnort* I imagine even if they do, roaming charges from the 10th dimension could probably pay the CEO's salary for a few decades. Although, good luck trying to collect on that bill. *grin*

Oh jeez, I needed the laugh today. Thanks again.

Author Reply: Good luck, indeed. LOL! Glad I could brighten your day, Kevana.

What happened to the people of middle-earth It seems as though only the elves are left.

Author Reply: Hi Tari. The Mortals fled southward toward the equator where the ice did not come. In the first chapter Denethor is sitting in a tree watching Mortals in a nearby village going about their lives when he has the dream that sends him and the others off in search of Maglor. Hope that clears things up for you.

what a bitter path for Maglor. Asking for forgiveness and knowing to never get it. I´m always so ready to forgive him and then I have to remeber what he has done...it´s really really difficult with this guy. Lai

Author Reply: Hi Lai. Bitter indeed. As for whether he knows he will never get forgivenss or not is really not for any of us to say. That he appears to be sincere in his apologies is enough and we should leave all judgments to those most capable of doing so, i.e. the Valar under Ilúvatar. At any rate, thanks for taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated.

Yep. hope is all they have, but it has moved mountains. I guess they will just have to keep on, keeping on, to go back would be to give up and fade and die.

It is interesting, from a geological standpoint, to see how the topografy(sp?) has changed, what many thousands of years and a glacier will do to the landscape has to be fascinating.

I see that life is slowly coming back to the lands, you can't keep Yavanna down for long, she is one tough Lady and her works are the same.

Good chapter Fiondil,
more please.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I tried to imagine what might have changed in the millennia since the ice came and what might have remained the same or only altered slightly. I couldn't make the topography completely different from what was before or else they would never be able to find their way to the Sea. There are just enough changes and enough that didn't change to make it seem alien to them and to the reader (hopefully) and realize that the shape of Middle-earth has been altered over time, a very long time.

And, you're right, that you can't keep Yavanna down for too long; eventually, life overcomes death.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I very much appreciate it. Hugs back. And don't worry, there's plenty more of this story to come.

Yeah, a map would have been nice – particularly one that showed the land as it is now *grin*

In any case, it's good to see this group of Elves in better spirits and, despite the odds of finding Maglor and later the Straight Road, once again full of life and hope.

Maglor, however, seems to have had a few rather uncomfortable days in that blizzard. By the way, he's right, it's strange how he keeps walking through such conditions, going so many hundred kilometers just to die. He could have had that easier ... Anyway, he's lucky to be an Elf who can walk on the snow, or he'd really struggle to get through all that snow, I suspect.

Hm ... is it normal that I am now sitting here wondering if the blizzard was sent by the Valar to hold him up a bit and give the other Elves a chance to catch up? Or am I just reading too much of your stories? I seem to remember one or two other snowstorms that were a bit too convenient back in EI, for instance.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Maps are always useful. *grin*

You may be correct that the blizzard was sent by the Valar to slow Maglor down a bit, since he's had a good head start on Denethor and the others. Certainly Denethor probably thinks so, though the thought scares him with its implications if it is true. On the other hand, it may simply be coincidental. *Yeah, right. LOL!*

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's very much appreciated.

"...it sorrowed him to think that nothing of them had remained."

That is a sorrowful thought and one that keeps running through my mind as we journey through lands that were once so vibrant and filled with life. You're capturing that somber mood perfectly with this, and the small touch of levity with his remembering Elladan and Elrohir chasing him was just the right touch, and the contrast between one heading for what he hopes is death and the hope and feeling of life returning to those that follow is really serving the story well.

Author Reply: Hi Cairstiona. It is indeed a sorrowful thought, to realize just how empty these lands are now. I'm glad you think I've captures the somber mood perfectly and that the levity (when it occurs) does not distract from the story. It is an interesting contrast between Maglor heading for what he hope is death and the others who are taking the same journey in hope of life.

Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

He's leading them on an interesting chase indeed! Trying to find one Elf in all of Middle Earth during an ice age... that's more like looking for a piece of hay in a stack of needles. Glad they have help and guidance even if they aren't always aware of it. I love how creepy your descriptions of the empty land feel.

Also...darn it, Fiondil, your characters have invaded my dreams! LOL! I had a nice little talk with Irmo the other night. I don't remember most of it but I do remember telling him as he was leaving that he should just get a cell phone if he wanted to chat. Bwahahaha.

Have a blessed day and a lovely week!

Author Reply: Do they even have Verizon in Valinor? LOL!

It does look like he's giving them an interesting chase. Of course, he doesn't *know* he's being pursued, which makes it even more interesting from a certain perspective.

Thanks for commenting, Kevana. I appreciate it. Have a blessed day and a lovely week yourself.

What a difficult journey for all of them. Sometimes hope is all there is, to get us through to the other side.

Author Reply: Truer words were never spoken, Shirebound. I can attest to that personally. I'm so glad you are reading and enjoying this story. Thanks for reviewing.

The litany of all that was lost is so sad, but the sheer hope of the journey shines through.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you could see the hope shining through here, UTfrog. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Another great chapter! Both journeys sound very perilous, I hope everyone survives to reach Imladris! it's really touching to think of Maglor watching over Elrond's family as the years passed. Him almost being caught by the twins is funny- I'd be embarassed too! I hope Denethor and the others find him soon.

Author Reply: Hi Ilya. They are very periolous journeys as anyone who has had to deal with blizzards and winter weather can relate. And it would've been very embarrassing if Maglor had been caught by the twins (or anyone else, for that matter). We'll see how successful Denethor and the others are in finding Maglor in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
