No Greater Love, Part Two: Repercussions  by MJ 108 Review(s)

"So you came to the Shire, disguised as traveling hobbits. Is that what ordinary siblings of your people do for a lark?"

Oh, what a marvelous and absolutely "Pippin" thing to ask! Thank you for gifting us with this long and satisfying chapter, especially since you've been going through a dark time. There's so much love and wisdom here; I hope you're as delighted at the tale being told through you as we are to read it.

And this...

Pippin's melancholy fled in an instant. "Oh? Is it as bright as the stars, or as beautiful as trees, or as strong as the sea?" He mentioned those things, recalling how the tales of the Valar said that they were among the many things they treasured.
Manwë nodded. "All those things, and more, much more. The One heard Olórin's song and took the heart of it as the inspiration for His design when He created Hobbits."

That makes me so happy. In all the years I've thought, read, written, and wondered about hobbits, that particular idea never once occurred to me. I love it.

I just wanted to tell you how extremely glad I am that you returned. I was afraid you died or abandoned the fandom! I love your stories and was sad for this one remaining unfinished. It would be such a pity. I love your portrayal of the Valar and Maiar nad the life in Aman. And "No Greater Love" is special also that there is fun and suspense even without any serious tragedy. I am reminded of those stupid people who think living in Valinor must be horribly boring. They should read your stories.

Love to have another chapter of this story. Lots of fond remembrances of Gandalf for Pippin, and Pippin for Galdalf. I'm glad you've written Pippin as smart enough to have figured it all out (mostly) himself. He wouldn't have become the greatest Thain in the Shire if he was an idiot. When we got to the very end of the chapter, I kind of expected him to give Manwe a big hug. Fainting works too! Perhaps the big cousinly hug might come in the next chapter, once he gets over the shock.

What a thing to learn--that he's now related through love to Manwe himself! And trust Frodo to make certain that Pippin studied to get the answers he wanted so to have! Good for both of them!

We give thanks for story-tellers...

As for ***Although Christopher Tolkien dismisses this deleted passage as meaning that Gandalf never returned to the Shire before sailing West, I prefer to think it was left out not because it didn't happen, but to simply shorten what was an otherwise lengthy denouement to the entire story.***

I am sure you are right.

I think this my favorite chapter so far. What a dear, lovely reunion.

So you're one of the servants of the Great Powers. Splendid!

LOL, such a simple, delighted, hobbity response! Happy Thanksgiving to you.

I see that Olórin is quite thoroughly busted! And I wonder how Pippin is going to react when he finds out just who "Munwy" is.

A wonderful reunion, I must say, and one I had been hoping for. I am glad that there is such a friendship between the two of them, and that the love is there to help heal both hearts the more.
