Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 25 Review(s)

And a long fall off the cliff it was. Love the idea of Elrond as an apprentice. I can just see his face at the suggestion. That was the only light moment in the chapter. Also loved Dave's Oz remark and the one about someone giving Finrod a political facts of life talk. The rest of your chapter is extremely well written horror. Perhaps good will come of this in some Elves seeing that they are badly outnumbered when push comes to shove. Anyway, frustrating, but great read. Waiting for Friday.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. Sorry about that. Hope the landing wasn't too rough for you. *grin*

Extremely well-written horror... I like that. Thanks. And I'm sure some good will come out of it eventually.

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

OK, the main thing on my mind is how anyone mortal could do that to GLORFINDEL?!? At least anyone on his own--still, Glorfindel could take out half a dozen ordinary muggers. Unless he had in some way been previously incapacitated. Or unless he decided not to resist for some reason.

Oh, this is a *fine* mess! I hope Helena is beginning to realize this is her fault!

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. Hey, he may be Glorfindel but he's not invincible or God. Obviously something happened that allowed him to be attacked as he was. All anyone has to do is get one good hit in and render him more or less unconscious and then he's vulnerable. And this is not the first time this has happened to him, either.

Anyway, we'll see how it all turns out soon enough. Thanks for leaving a review. I quite appreciate it.

Ouch, ouch, ouch! I wonder who did that to Glorfindel, and how whoever-it-was got the drop on him? In any case, a very nasty result of the quarrel in the last chapter, and one that no doubt will have many and unforeseen ramifications.

Whatever else it has done, Glorfindel ending up in the hospital certainly has made the fissures among the Elves clear. And I hope, for everyone's sake, that he will recover without too much in the way of effects.

I expect Helyandwë feels rather guilty, now, as she should. I wonder what worries her most, that Glorfindel was attacked and now lies seriously wounded in the hospital, or the fact that Finrod might consider her partially responsible for this, as Elrohir does, and possibly some of the other Wiseman elves may do as well?

Loved the little aside about Elrond and Irmo, It might have been fun to be a fly on the wall when Elrond told Irmo that!

Author Reply: We may eventually find out who tried to do in Glorfindel and how they got the drop on him. And we will see how he recovers and what follows from it. I would hope Helyanwë feels guilty and I suspect she's vacillating between terror at what might happen to Glorfindel and terror at what Finrod might do to her. Such is the way with many people. And the aside about Elrond and Irmo offers a bit of light in an otherwise dark chapter. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

No no no no no no. No. NO. Nooooo.

... NO.

THIS IS SO. MUCH. WORSE. Than *anything* I had imagined. Oh, no.

This was a spectacular chapter with the pacing and excitement and tension. But I just stared in horror like watching a car accident happen. What a nightmare! How could mortals get the drop on him?? Was it a mob?! How would they have found him? Are the others in danger? Were they trying to make it look like a suicide? Who would even have thought to do that? Am I an idiot for wishing it was some kind of monster besides mortals being monstrous?

Noooo why. Excuse me while I cry forever. This is horrible and awful and heartbreaking. *flails uselessly*

NOOOO. :( Those were not dominoes. That was a landslide!

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. I'm glad you found this chapter spectacular with the pacing and all. And you raise lots of interesting questions, some of which may be answered eventually. And buck up. It's not the end yet by a long shot and would I really be so mean as to kill off Glorfindel? Lord Námo would be very unhappy with me if I did that, and we never want to make him unhappy, do we? LOL! Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

So they're going to put some Mortal blood into Glorfindel? Hmmm, so now there will be three Peredhel on Middle Earth :-D

I wonder how the great warrior Glorfindel, who was trained by Maiar and who faced down the Nazgul and hordes of orcs, not to mention a Balrog, could have been bested? Maybe it was because he was so distracted? Or maybe he thought displaying his real prowess might be counterproductive to the fragile Elf-Human relationships they are trying to build.

I liked that little aside about Elrond. So he was rather rather-headed, even to a Vala. That must have been quite a conversation (hoping for a new story).

The story gets more and move exciting...

Author Reply: Hi Celeth. No, transfusing someone with blood doesn't make them different from what they are. That is a genetic thing and giving someone a quart or two of someone else's blood won't change that.

And we will learn something of what happened to Glorfindel that he was so easily taken by Mortals.

As for Elrond... him becoming an apprentice to Irmo would be an interesting story but I don't know if we will ever see it, but you never know what the muse will come up with next.

Glad you are enjoying the story. Thanks for reviewing and letting me know. I appreciate it very much.
