Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)

Poor Gwyn. to be the oldest (and I was not) has to be the bane of every child's life. :( Well, maybe their parents will not be so critical once they get around the elves that knew them back "then" Stories might be shared including ones that would explain why mom and dad are so strict :)One can hope :)

Author Reply: Hi Laer. Yes, much is expected of the oldest child. I, luckily, did not have to suffer that fate. *grin* At any rate, meeting up with other Elves should help the parents be less critical of things. We'll have to see. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

So, they were born at the end of the war against Morgoth, then? And they've been living in suspended belief in their own histories ever since? Aha! So, now we know!

Love the certificate sent for Glorfindel! Nice touch! And love the in-joke as well.

Author Reply: Actually, they were both born well after the War of Wrath and they have struggled to survive all on their own for a very long time. Now they know that other Elves live in Middle-earth and that should make it easier for them.

I'm glad you liked Glorfindel's certificate and enjoyed the in-joke as well. Thanks for reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

Whew ! That was a lot of information to take in.
I was really surprised whe Finrod made his joke, especially as it is one we tell in the playground. I though it was just us teens who told those. And then I learned that it was Oromë the instigator of Finrod's.

Great chapter,

Ora

Author Reply: Trust me, Ora, teenagers don't have the corner market on such jokes. Grown-ups are just as likely to play them among themselves.

Anyway, there is a lot of information presented here and it might take more than one reading to get it all.

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Well, we begin to see the big picture. I like Tristan and Iseult so far.

I can see that Namo's visit was necessary for them to begin the process of breaking down walls they have spent millennia building up. I look forward to seeing their arrival at Edhellond.

Poor Gwyn! As an oldest myself, I can SO identify with catching the blame for the misdeeds of ny younger siblings!

Fun chapter! I look forward to Monday!

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. I'm glad you like Tristan and Iseult. Námo's the best one to begin breaking down walls that people put up; it's part of his job description. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.

That was a great chapter. So many things about Iseult and Tristan have come to light and only the surface has been scratched. I'm sure that they are reacting to just having their entire world set on it's ear, Tristan alone is going to have to incorporate the existence of the Valar into his scientific logical world. I wonder if he will put it on the level of quarks?

I would love to see Glorfindel's bonifides that Lord Nano brought. The illumination sounds very lovely, much like the medieval depictions done by the monks. It would make an impressive framed document. It definitely did it's job in this case. As apparently Tristan and Iseult have never met any Elves that we normally think as famous, I wonder what they will think when they meet the elves in Wiseman.

I do hope that Iseult apologizes to Gwyn. Though he is the elder brother, he cannot always be there to take care of his younger brother. But I believe that this is how Iseult has justified having her sons travel on their own in the world. If Gwyn is protecting Gareth, then all will be well. I wonder when or if Gwyn will tell his parents about his courtship. That could be something to be discussed in Wiseman. Oh my, there a lot of shocks and revelations coming up I think.

Author Reply: Hi rikki. Both Tristan and Iseult have a lot to assimilate into their worldview. I have no doubt that when the meet the other Elves residing in Wiseman they'll ease up a bit and be more forthcoming about themselves and their family.

It's not easy being the oldest sibling (something I never experienced) as they often get blamed for everything. I'm sure both parents will tender the apologies. We'll see how things are between them and their sons in the next chapter.

There are a lot of shocks and revelations to come, more than anyone can imagine. *grin*

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

You should have posted this at Thanksgiving in honor of awkward family gatherings. LOL

I hope the parents will share some history with their sons. There has been a hole in that family's history for too long.

Author Reply: LOL! Maybe I should have, Ellie. Now that the dam has broken, so to speak, the parents should start sharing something of their history with their sons. It won't happen overnight but it will happen, I'm sure. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's very much appreciated.

You certainly know how to pack information into a single chapter. If this was a textbook, I would have most of it highlighted. It will take more than one pleasure read to absorb all you said. I so love your Lord Namo. He was just perfect. Glorfindel will have quite a wall hanging, too. Good luck to this family as they try to heal and get to know each other in a different way. Fantastic work. Thanks.

Author Reply: There certainly is a lot of information here, UTfrog. I'm sure it'll take more than one reading to absorb it all. I'm glad you love Námo. He is perfect, isn't he? *grin* We'll see how the family gets on with one another. We'll be with them for at a while yet. Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate.

Daeron was right, that was an emotionally charged scene. And I pity poor Tristan and Iseult. Learning that your son is almost married to a complete stranger, right after meeting the Lord of Mandos in person...I wouldn't even know how to react.

By the way, said Lord of Mandos was rather naughty in his parting shot. But at least it gave Gareth an opening to make his announcement. I would have preferred to do it some other way myself, but seeing the way Iseult treats her children, this might have been the best way after all.

The Valar must be in a really good mood, having Lord Namo come over to vouch for the three famous ellyn, and then even going so far as to issue Glorfindel's letter of introduction (by the way, what a lucky, lucky Elf: I have never heard of someone being given one by Lord Manwe. I'd have it enlarged and posted like a billboard on my front yard hahaha). Or else they think that convincing Tristan and Iseult to join the army of light is really important. Then again, it reminds me of the Parable of the lost Sheep, when the Good Shepherd left the ninety-nine who were safe in the fold, to go and look for the one who was lost. Each of us is important to Eru, and He will do what is necessary to reach out and bring us back to the fold.

Hope to get to know more about the ap Hywels. And please tell Lord Namo that I want to be his friend. I really like his sense of humor. Happy weekend.

Author Reply: Hi Celeth. Tristan and Iseult have a lot to assimilate, and Námo's parting shot was very naughty. Hopefully, they'll accept what has happened with their sons soon enough. It will be good for them to reconnect with other Elves as we'll see later on when they get to Wiseman.

You're right that each of us is important to Eru and He'll do whatever He has to to rescue us from ourselves and bring us back to the fold.

Have a great weekend yourself. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.
