Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)

Aha! I had a hunch Legolas might have tipped his boss off, though I wasn't sure.

Clearly TPTB have a plan in mind. The wedding date being changed, ostensibly to convenience thei Elves' mortal friends, now takes on a different light: now it puts the wedding close enough to the election that the presence of the extra wedding guests will converge with it. Somehow it appears that Someone wants all this Elven Royalty to be present for this event. Is it to open Elven eyes to the way things have changed? Or mortal eyes to the majesty of the Firstborn? Or both? Or is something altogether unexpected going to occur that will need all to deal with?

I have feeling this will take a while to unfold. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing the immediate aftermath of the "wedding invasion", and especially to the upcoming "dinner party" .

I wonder what the parents (both sets) will make of "Esther"? ; )

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. The TPTB ALWAYS have a plan. LOL! And the various theories you put forth are all plausible and even likely. And yes, all this take a while to unfold for there is much that has to happen before we reach the end of the story. At any rate, I'm glad you're looking forward to the dinner party. It should prove interesting, especially with "Esther" there. *grin* Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

This was a great chapter with lots of first time interactions between mortals and the Elves just arrived from Valinor. Legolas did right by reporting the Elves to Dave, he is getting a good grasp of human law and it may just play against Peterson and his non-Elf diatribe. If they are careful (though I fully doubt that will happen), the Elves can get through the wedding without tearing the town of Wiseman apart.

I really enjoyed Alex's appearance, blockade, what blockade casualness? He is reacting much better to the Elves and seems to be regaining his equilibrium with the world. He certainly didn't hesitate to face off those Elves that questioned his being there. Glorfindel's comment about walking quietly around the human and Oleron's comment about bringing down Fionwe twice and being sword brother among the Maiar will do much to establish Alex in the Elven society.

Looking forward to the meal at the cafe with Nell and her parents and the ap Hywels and the mortals. That is one meeting where I wouldn't mind being the fly on the wall before, during and after. I think that Celeborn and Galadriel will be more accepting of the partial bonding of Nell and Garath than the ap Hywels were. After all, they are definitely two different personalities that created a strong bond.

Now that I have had my Monday morning fix, it is time to get things done around the house. Hope that you have a wonderful week, looking forward to Friday.

Author Reply: Hi Rikki. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, especially Alex. The meal at the café should prove interesting, though we won't see it immediately. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

This was a touching and deeply amusing chapter. That meeting went far better than it had any right to, given the temperaments involved, LOL! But then, the day is young as they say.

Dozens of Maiar? Yikes! Are they trying to keep the Elves in or the Mortals out? Both? I can't help but wonder how successful they're going to be, threats and promises aside. I had to smirk at the great description of them all vanishing together, it must have smelled like a florist's shop.

The only downside of telling the kings to hush and let Loren do the talking is we don't get to hear much of their thoughts in this one, but hopefully we will in the next chapter. :) It's really cool two of the kings are meeting Mortals for the first time, I imagine they're not the only ones.

I do hope whoever's left running Aman doesn't break the place while all the cats are away in Wiseman, hah!

Dave is awesome, stepping in with his remark in Quenya. And so is Legolas - Liam - he did a great job calling his boss, it will probably prove to be the smartest move he could have made. So much better than the police finding out some other way. It really hits home here how wise and important it is that he be that connection.

Although I have no doubt the Alien Overlords can handle it, I do have to wonder if this might also cause some friction with the college head honchos since technically it's school property.

Love that Nate decided to tip off the cops about that murder. Goodness knows I wish we had a Nate to drop a hint or three about who committed a few unsolved murders in my town. And Alex bringing his A game to the table. Yeah, if he snuck into the Kremlin I imagine getting past some Maiar is not a huge deal. "Fionwë's Bane"! That's priceless (and accurate).

Nice nod to Ron as well. Wonder what his Reborn sons must think of that!

You know, I realize that the people of Wiseman really need a diplomat for Elf-Mortal relations. :P Imagine how much easier it would be if they had a go-to person to show up and work the crowd.

Wonderful chapter, made me look forward to Monday too!

Take care!
-Kevana

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. As you say, the day is young. LOL!

Dave is indeed awesome and so is Legolas and Alex is just being Alex. *grin*

We'll see Ron and Holly interacting with their sons in a later chapter where they will learn just who their father really is these days.

You're right that they need a diplomat for Elf-Mortal relations. Maybe someone will volunteer for the job someday. LOL!

Thanks for commenting on the chapter. It's much appreciated.

Legolas takes his job very seriously. I hope the fact that he and the other Elves who live there respect the Mortals of Wiseman will make the newcomers think twice before making 'unkind' comments about them.

I loved when the Wiseman Elves and the Maiar warned the newly arrived Elves against pissing Alex off and how he told them off: "Last time I looked, you still have to put your underwear on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. So, really, there’s nothing special about you at all." That and other things had me smiling right to the end of the chapter.

I'll try to read "Elf, Interrupted", but I'm starting my exams on Wednesday and they only end on the 16th. I'm not even sure I'll be able to continue to read until after they are finished.

Till next time,

Ora.

Author Reply: Hi Ora. Yes, Legolas does take his job seriously and Alex is certainly good at telling the Elves off. We will see this again with him later in the story. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Good luck with your exams, and don't worry. This story and "Elf, Interrupted" will still be here when you are able to get back to reading them.

That went surprisingly well. No tantrums, no physical violence, and no runners. Seems like the Valar are learning how to better prepare folks for modern mortal interaction (or else they just picked more chill people this time). And of course our second (or is it third?) pair of lovebirds make their appearance. I cannot wait to see the lot of them in the cafe, I imagine they'll cause quite the stir. Perhaps even a temporary influx of customers coming in to have a good look.

Thank you for giving me something to look forward to on Mondays.

Author Reply: Hi Sarah. Yes, it went well enough. The dinner at the café should prove interesting. I'm glad I've made Mondays something to look forward to with my stories. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Wow. Lots of good action. Legolas was so right to call his superiors. He showed everyone that he is very serious about becoming a good officer. I absolutely love Alex getting the respect he deserves from everyone including the Maier. The only part I really wanted to read today, that you were not able to include, was Gwyn meeting Nell's parents. I suspect they have plenty to say about that kiss, if nothing else. Thanks for a fantastic chapter.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. Legolas is showing them all that he is taking his job as a police officer seriously, as one would expect from Thranduilion. And Alex deserves his reputation among the Maiar. Sorry we didn't get to Gwyn meeting Nell's parents. Maybe in the next chapter. We'll have to see. We will certainly see some reaction from Celeborn and Galadriel though not necessarily where and when you expect. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

I'm just curious: who was that other Elf that Manveru and Erunaru call their sword-brother, aside from Glorfindel?

I can't remember anyone else. Maybe its time I read EI 1 and 2 again.

Author Reply: Actually, I believe the other sword-brother to the Maiar is Arafinwë and you would have to read "In Darkness Bound" to learn why.

I just love it when Alex manages to put arrogant Elves fresh from Valinor in their place. And he didn't even have to raise a finger this time; his reputation already precedes him - and even among the Maiar too; Fionwe's Bane indeed :D

I really enjoyed this chapter. And just like me, I'm sure many of the Elves from Valinor are just bursting with questions about all the things they have seen and heard over the last two chapters.

And Friday is still four days away...

Author Reply: Hi Celeth. Alex is pretty cool here. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.
