Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)

Hmmm, I didn't expect that last bit. Poor Daeron. At least he's working through and past it.

And now Celeborn is pushing more than Galadriel. I admit I didn't expect that.
~Eruherdiriel

Author Reply: Hi Eruherdiriel. The important thing is indeed that Daeron is working through and past what happened to him. Celeborn, of course, feels justified in pushing, because he's doing it on behalf of Elu Thingol and not just for himself. At any rate, he'll get no more of the story than what as been told him. The important thing for them all to know is that Daeron is alive and well and he's where he's supposed to be.

Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it very much.

Oh, sweet Eru! Poor Dearon! I don't want to imagine what was done to Dearon, mans inhumanity to man never ceases to appall me and we have not improved with age, we seem to get better and better at it with each passing year. Such a sad commentary on the world as a whole.

I can understand Celeborn's impatience at wanting to get to discussing the Betrothal as soon as possible but he forgets that Tristan and Isault have just spent the day traveling from Fairbanks, a journey of some considerable distance and driving is tiring even with cruise control!

I wonder just how much sleep Finrod and Amarie will be getting, I expect they will be ready for breakfast, if the bother to come down for it, that is!

I can well imagine the signs the Valar insisted the Wedding Guests learn, it will save a lot of embarrassment all round! I think Dearon will be setting up a small English as a second language school.

Oh, well time to pack up the cat, the B.H. and the B.B. and head for the hills, the Orclings are here, the Orclings are here!

Huggs,
I'll see you on Monday,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Celeborn doesn't realize that Gareth's parents have traveled over 6,000 miles in two days and have to been exhausted. At least he apologizes for his impatience.

I doubt Finrod and Amarië will get much sleep. LOL!

And yeah, I can just see Daeron opening up a small ESL school for newcomers from Aman. LOL!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Good luck with the Orclings. Hugs back.

Oh the possibilities! So much is hinted at in this chapter, and I hope we'll learn more eventually. But I am impressed with the way you show Galadriel's astuteness in the things she asks, and in the answers she gives. Celeborn, as well, although he seems more inclined to push than his wife (at least at this point in time (I have a feeling that if she decided to push, she'd not be put off as easily).

Poor Daeron! Have you told his story as hinted at here already? It sounds dreadful, from what Glorfindel did reveal.

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. I'm glad you are impressed with the way I show Galadriel's astuteness as well as Celeborn, though, I grant you, he's being a bit more forward than he probably should be, but he's on a mission from Elu Thingol to learn the truth of what happened to Daeron after he fled Doriath, but I'm afraid he's never going to learn the full truth.

And no, I have never told Daeron's story and it is unlikely I ever will except possible hints here or there. I think I'll leave it to the reader's imagination as to what might have happened.

Anyway, thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Damn. No wonder they don't talk about those days. It sounds like Daeron was very, very lucky to even make it out alive, especially given the way many Elves might fade under such conditions. Though we can only guess at what those conditions were exactly, and even just guessing turns my stomach a bit. Add me to the list of people you've gotten to care about your characters and their stories.

I greatly enjoyed seeing Galadriel and Glorfindel get caught up. We don't ever see them interact in canon, but they must have had an interesting, if complicated relationship, especially in your Reborn verse where he and Finrod are besties before he returns to Middle-earth.

As for Turgon, it sounds like he had a horribly difficult readjustment. I hope he hasn't spent Ages and Ages unhealed because he couldn't get to Glorfindel, but it sounds as if that may be the case. They were right to bring him along for the wedding. Personally I think that under the circumstances, Glorfindel was quite justified in telling Turgon off! But death probably has a way of making you see things differently to say the least, heh, and he was death sworn to boot (that stupid oath >.> ).

Thanks for the great, though painful chapter, and have a great weekend!

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. Whatever happened to Daeron is in the past and things are much better for him. His rescue by Glorfindel and the Twins was obviously planned by the Powers That Be. Glorfindel hints as much when he says it was miraculous that they found him at all.

I'm glad you enjoyed Galadriel and Glorfindel catching up on things. They indeed had to have some kind of relationship especially after Elrond and Celebrían wed and there was more commerce between the two elven enclaves. It only stands to reason.

And Turgon, well, I think he's mostly healed, but there is that one part of him where Glorfindel is that needs to be healed and hopefully that will happen before he returns to Aman. And we see here why that oath was so dangerous. People like Arafinwë, when he learned of it, were right to be appalled by the implications and consequences of such an oath.

At any rate, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It's very much appreciated.

Thanks for another great chapter. Plenty of information imparted and even more questions raised you are very good at that. I do hope we eventually hear some of Daraon back story.

Author Reply: You're most welcome, UTfrog. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I doubt we'll hear the full tale of what happened to Daeron, though we may get bits and pieces. That remains to be seen. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

Hehehe. I see Finrod is all set to show Amarië his etchings, or at least his nascent collection of Mortal-made odds and ends. ;-)

Sounds like Turgon was a real handful, even for someone like Arafinwë with all is experience with Reborn. And even if Elenwë took most of the responsibility for dealing with him, I'm sure the rest of the family had their hads full with him as well. Clearly he was at least as, um, _challenging_ as Glorfindel once had been! And I think Arafinwë's insistence that Turgon's Death Sworn stay away from him until he was mature enough to deal with them was a good move. He had more enough on his plate without that element added in, from the sound of it!

Ouch! Sounds like Daeron had a _really_ grim time of it! I guess that's one story that is unlikely to be told, if it was bad enough to make the normally compassionate Glorfindel (and the Twins) furious enough to kill everyone in that community, down to the infants! I suppose the readers are just going to have to imagine what might have happened, picking things from the darker end of what people do to each other, like rape, torture, slavery or (more likely) a combination.
I'm sure Vorondur is a great help to Daeron - and a much better healer for him than one of the Valinoreans would have been.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. I'm sure Finrod will be showing her more than his Mortal-made knick-knacks. LOL!

At any rate, it does seem that Turgon was a handful, more so than is usual for Reborn. Hopefully, whatever unresolved issued there are between him and Glorfindel will eventually be resolved before Turgon returns to Aman.

Daeron's situation was indeed very grim, but Vorondur is there to help him and that's all that matters at the moment, isn't it?

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

So very much for the new and old elves to have to handle. Past hurts, pasts tortures, future questions, future love...wow. Very epic ;) I am so sorry for the harm we mortals placed on Daren. He is such a kind soul...yeah, I know he isn't real; but he is to me. :(

See you on Monday :)

Author Reply: Quite a lot for both groups to deal with, Laer. I'm glad Daeron is real to you. He's real to me, as all the characters in my stories are. And I'm sure with Vorondur's help, Daeron will overcome his demons as we all must. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

initially I was in the same boat at Celeborn, quite curious as to how all this lot got together. but now.... *hugs Daeron* I know your a fictional character dear, but ... argh, you see what you've done, good author? You've made me feel as though I ought to apologize on behalf of humanity to a fictional character who we don't even know what happens to and I can't bear to think about it ....

I think I may be more emotionally invested in your canon than actual canon. Good job. I'm going to go and steal a certain someone's hot chocolate recipe and find some fluffy kittens to cuddle :-)

Author Reply: That you care for a fictional character is a testament to my good writing(grin) and I thank you for the compliment. And really, we should all feel ashamed of the way we have treated and still treat even our own kind to this very day. It's a sad commentary on humanity.

At any rate, enjoy your hot chocolate and fluffy kittens and thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.
