Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 17 Review(s)

So, that was the noise heard in the encampment in the last chapter. The nut cases were trying to explode Elf Academy. This is not just a mob anymore. These were planned attacks. Who is supplying them with the C4? You can't buy this stuff in the next ammo shop.
Glorfindel may be right that there are too many Maiar around, but even with all the kings gone there will still be some Maia left. They always watched over the elves in Wiseman. One Maia alone will be of great help to prevent the worst.
Legolas seems to settle into his role as police officer nicely. I liked the touch of him regarding Edhelhond as "home".

I so love this story. All the detail, all the information...thank you for not letting his gift disappear never to be seen by anyone again.

Sheesh! This is getting messier and messier! Now they are trying to blow up the Academy? These people are nut jobs in more than one sense of the word!

Good to see Officer Prince is settling into his job so well and that others are using his abilities to their advantage. The Mair do like to put on a show don't they, in some ways they are more like Elflings than the Valar!

Glorfindel is right though, the Valars intervention at both Edelholland and at the Academy could backfire if people think they will be on hand to help out all the time, it would be best if they just left things alone for us to muddle through on our own.

Somebody asked a while back if Eonwe was espoused, I asked that of Fiondil some time back and his answer was that Eonwe hadn't told him and wasn't likely to!

As for Dearon looking upon the Twins as his sons I have a feeling he is in much the same boat as Glorfindel, until he has children of his won he will look upon the Sons of Elrond as his.

Plans on bringing roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and veg to the Cliff House, if there is any left that is. Adds Raspberry Braid Coffee Cake to breakfast table, makes real oatmeal, not that instant stuff!

Huggs to all,
Lynda

The fact that the Elf Academy was attacked does not surprise me. Though it may have been overkill, the appearance of the maiar to stop the explosion turned out to be a good thing. C4 is not something to play around with and it sounds as if there was enough to burn down half the college that even the attackers would have been in trouble during the explosions. C4 is also not something that is normally available so Dave may have lots of leads into who is behind the attacks tracing down where this stuff is from. I wonder if it will go back to the people that employed Alex in Washington. My hope is that it will be addressed in Elf Academy 4.

Legolas as a policeman is turning out to be a good idea. The other police have apparently accepted him and he does have better eyesight and ability to find things that is very helpful in his work. Glorfindel may be right that there is too large a maiar presence for what is going on but even if that doesn't change people's minds about believing that the Elves are demons, it might slow them down in attacking them outright. It's going to be hard to keep living in Wiseman if Glorfindel and company have to keep looking over the shoulders at every shadow and bush.

As I read this, the sun is setting over the trees. I have just finished my supper of fried chicken and red beans and rice cajun style. I will bring more fried chicken to the Cliff House along with a pot of beans. There always seems to be a pot of beans or stew cooking in my house most of the time. Anyone that drops in can help themselves if they are hungry and with bread it makes quite a meal. If it is breakfast where you are, then there is biscuits and various breakfast meats on the table and grits in the slow cooker. I'm sorry but someone else will have to bring the oatmeal, the only thing I use oats for is to make bread but I will add honey and various jams to the table. I hope everyone enjoys that week to come as we wait for Fiondil's take on what is happening in Wiseman.

Yikes! Elf Academy being attacked at the same time! This shows there's some more intelligence behind these events than just an angry mob, with C4 being thrown in the mix as well. Somehow, I don't think the tourist industry will be happy about this as well. The college, and the tourist industry are the things that make Wiseman the place it is.

It's a good thing there were Maiar on watch, without them, this night would have gotten out of control, but it's no good they will not always be around. I have the feeling this might be a thing that would show up up EA 4. Still, I do not think the Elves are totally helpless on their on. Glorfindel could ward of all the the nine Nazgűl on his own, and there's Finrod added to the mix as well now, not to mention many others.
And I don't think the Powers will be watching over things without doing anything at all. It's not their nature to have no part in the fun!

I think Legolas is becoming a better cop more and more and it's good to see he is feeling at home in Wiseman. I liked his brief interaction with Olórin.

I miss asking Fiondill questions about the deeper aspects of the story, so I'm just going to throw this one in and hope others have an opinion about it too. In last chapter, Vardamir remarks Dearon might be seeing the Twins as his own sons.
Now we know Glorfindel has a strong bound with the Twins for them being Eärendil's descendants, and he even uses that as the reason/excuse (choose the option you like best ;) ) for never Sailing
Could Dearon be seeing the Twins in some similar light, them being the descendants of Luthien as well?
Any opinions on this one?

Take care everyone, and hugs.

Me, I'm with Glorfindel in this one. Too much divine invention (or angelic invention) can be dangerous - and backfire, big time. I wonder who is behind these coordinated attacks... aside from the Enemy, of course.

Officer Prince is made of the win, though.

Argh, they tried to burn down the Academy? This mob is really getting more and more dangerous. And all because they hate Elves ... I bet the tourism industry who wants Elf guides would be so happy if the Academy was lost!

Legolas is really turning more and more into an asset for the police of Wiseman, isn't he?

Thank Eru the Maiar were there to protect the Academy! Without them, this day would have turned into quite the bloodbath, and not in just one place. Good idea that they left the explosives where they were – such nice evidence to show these radicals are nothing but terrorists themselves. Dave's not going to be happy about that added work – but at least he has the evidence now.

These references to the Maiar playing in neutron stars are amusing. Of course it's amazing, but just imagining the faces of the Mortals around them makes me laugh.

Hm, I can see where Glorfindel is coming from with his doubts, and in a way, he has a point. I really hope the display of power by the Maiar opens a few eyes and keeps these people from any more attacks, though that's probably not going to happen. Oh well, I know what you would say, Fiondil – if it was enough for them to back down remains to be seen. So I'll just wait and hope for the best.
