Forging Hope  by Ellie 88 Review(s)
FiondilReviewed Chapter: 3 on 3/14/2014
Faroniel was right to shoot an arrow at him. He had been thoughtless in his leaving as he did. At least she forgave him and accepted him back. Now he really believes he is alone and that has to be so frightening for him. Hopefully Faroniel will ease is loneliness a little and he will find some meaning in his life now even with everything he's lost, especially since he can't really remember what it was he's lost.

Author Reply: Arafinwe just had to get some answers and didn't like what he found out. He has to be terrified as he gropes his way through life right now. It is a good thing that Faroniel is forgiving and patient with him. Let's hope she can continue to be so and doesn't try to put another arrow in him. He isn't making very good choices lately, is he?

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!

Not the meeting he'd envisioned, if he even had a meeting in his imagination thought out. But he's wrong to despair before he knows all of the facts.

Author Reply: No, it was not the meeting he was expecting, poor guy. I think he does not fully understand just how, for lack of a better word, "damaged" he is from all that he has endured physically and emotionally as well. At least he is in an environemnt where he can get some support so maybe he can try to sort himself out.

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!

He's starting all over again and that can't be easy. He's lucky Faroniel was willing to take him in and teach him. In many ways he's almost like a child needing help. Not telling her he was leaving, though, isn't a good thing, but most males of any species don't think about things like that. *grin*

Author Reply: It has got to be extremely difficult to be in his position and he did luck out in finding Faroniel or really being found by her. He seems to be in the mindset of a caged animal, so it is no wonder he didn't reason through the consequences of his actions. I'm not saying males tend to behave like caged animals, though it kind of sounds like I am, but then again... LOL

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I do appreciate it very much!

He certainly has reason to seek out his own people, and I can understand his fears of the lady's motivations. It is time to be back to his own responsibilities.

I grieve for the brother-in-law's attitude.

Love the name she gives him, which is definitely apropos. But wouldn't she know Finderato as Finrod instead? That, I understand, was the name he was known as within Middle Earth by its own citizens.

Author Reply: I have to imagine that there were some pretty negaitve feelings among those who were left behind when other able-bodied men were called to go to the war to fight beside the Elves. I had not explored this concept in Middle-Earth wars until this story. I've been surprised by how strongly some of these characters feel about this.

As for Finrod versus Findarato, Arafinwe speaks only Quenya at the beginning of this chapter and is conversing with Faroniel in that language about a book written in that language. Once he learns Sindarin he is more apt to use Sindarin names for folk as is she. I think she was hoping that, considering he was from Valinor, using the names folk would have had in Valinor would have helped jog his memory. As we discovered, it really did not help at all.

We'll see soon how it goes for Arafinwe trying to seek out his own kind once again.

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!

Hi Ellie another beautiful chapter.Full of hope despite the loss. Hope our they get together very soon. They need one another, even if they don't relies it at the moment. Can't wait for the next chapter. Hope you are staying warm and feeling well. LOL Galathil

Author Reply: It is good to hear from you again :-)

I'm glad you are enjoying the story so far. There is hope despite the loss, but there are too many unanswered questions for Arafinwe to be at peace right now. Perhaps his search for the army will turn up something for him.

We are staying warm, but I am ready for winter to give up and go away. The flu season is landing the occasional blow on our family. Just got the latest victim healed and back to school. I hope the others don't get any ideas...

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!

Oh, more please? *looks pleadingly at author*

While I have been blessed to have never seen combat, my conversations with elderly WWII veterans has given me some little knowledge of the mental scars that battle leaves behind even when a soldier is not physically wounded. Your description of what Arafinwe is feeling matches up with what I've been told about the aftermath of losing one's men, one's comrades, one's friends.

I feel so very sorry for Arafinwe, but in a way he's been hit with "be careful what you wish for", and while the amnesia might temporarily take away the pain of his grief for his sons, when he finally does come back to himself, it will be there again. One can only hope that in the events to follow the end of the chapter (I do hope there will be more!) he will learn what he needs to learn to be able to cope with his losses and grief in a more constructive manner than running off into the middle of nowhere and into life-threatening danger.

You write wonderful stories, Ellie. I'm glad to see another from your pen. :-)

Author Reply: I have never seen comabt myself, nor do I wish to, but I have had friends who were in the military. I tried to imagine what an ellon with a conscience and compassion would have endured, dealing with all that Arafinwe has endured in his life. It had to get to him some days. You will see how he ends up coping with everything in the coming chapters.

I am delighted that you enjoy my stories. Thank you so very much! More will be forthcoming on Wednesdays :-)

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!

Arafinwë was very foolish to run off on his own like that. Obviously Someone was looking out for him or he would be having a nice cozy little chat with Lord Námo right about now. *grin* It must be terrible not to remember who you are, to have no identity, so to speak. I really can't imagine what it has to feel like.

Author Reply: Arafinwë crashed emotionally, plain and simple. Apparently he hid things well enough that the healers didn't realize how far gone he was emotionally. I have to wonder if Namo hasn't had enough of the family of Finwë and really didn't want any more of them cluttering up his halls, so he helped arrange for a rescue. Who knows exactly who all was behind it? Arafinwë is just really lucky to have been rescued. I agree he must be terrified. Elves live so much in memory and to have little to no memory in which to live? That would be exceedingly difficult at best.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read and reivew. I appreciate it very much!

He has reason to shield himself from the memories. I'm glad she came along when she did, and that he is not alone now.

Author Reply: His memories are quite horrible, no question about that. He indeed was extremely fortunate she came along when she did and was able to help him.

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much!
