Untold Tales of the Mark: The Banishment of Éomer  by Katzilla 84 Review(s)

This was the moment he knew so well: it separated the warrior from the commoner, and the marshal from the simple rider. Where the frightened man would flee or freeze; the warrior came to life.
The pounding of his heart thunder in his ears, the rush of blood in his veins so loud that it drowned out all other noises, Éomer felt battle-readiness flood his body like hundreds of times before: it was an unstoppable, hot wave saturating his muscles and preparing them for the challenge ahead, while at the same time his mind was overtaken by a great calm and clarity.

Yes, I liked that bit, especially. LBJ

Author Reply: Hi Sidonie,

thanks a lot for your comment. Yup, I, too, love to write about the honourable, couragous side of the Rohirrim. It is one of the main reasons for writing this story. I am so put-off by the rather boorish version of Éomer which seems to have taken over fanfic-world that I really want to provide a sort of counterbalance. Yeah, he might be good at warfare, but he's not a killing machine, by Béma's beard!!

You certainly got my heart beating there! I don't know if I can take all this angst.LBJ

Author Reply: I admit I love to use the thumbscrews on my readers, LOL! Still, I am somewhat surprised myself what dark things slumber within my deranged brain. I'm having way too much fun writing that sicko Grima. Perhaps I should get my head examined, you think?

Very romantic and very sad - well done. LBJ

Author Reply: Hi Sidonie,

thank you very much for your comment. Well, I thought that I couldn't just go on for 300 pages writing about depressing, violent stuff... a little TLC was definitely called for in this brief moment of respite, I think.

Hello Katzilla,
Mould? Are you serious? Maybe you should have added a note along the lines 'Do not try this at home if you are bitten by an orc'!

And yet another cliffhanger! You are making a habit of them, but then like I said before, I rather like them. I suppose Grima has now got hold of our brave Elfhelm? At least Eomer's on his way to getting better, although I still don't know how you'll get him into shape in time for Helm's Deep and the rest of the battles.

I don't usually read AU, but I have to admit it adds to the suspense not to know how far you are going to go and where and if you are going to rejoin the story of the books.

Have fun with your writing frenzy!
Lia

Author Reply: Well, as already discussed in the meantime with "Dr. Maddy", the mould found on dark bread and nuts is a kind of natural antibiotic and was really used in the medieval ages. (hugs Maddy for her medical recourcefulness).

And yeah, you should know by know that I like to torture not only my heroes, but my readers, as well (with cliffhangers). But then again, it is good for your arm muscles, all that hanging! Summer is coming, it's time to get into shape! ;->

And I just looooove to leave you in uncertainty re. how far I would go with my AU universe.... ooooh, I'M EVIL!!! (shudders)

Well, by Bema, thank goodness he's got someone to help him at last! Maybe I can sleep at night now. Well done. LBJ

Author Reply: Hah!!! You think you can sleep know, do you? I see terrible problems for you in that department in the near future.... ;->> The story is not over yet, there is still A LOT to come!!! (yes, that *is* a threat!)

Great: many more chapters for me to read since the last one. I enjoyed them a lot. Though I am still worried over what will happen to Eowyn or Eomer and Elfhelm. That nightmare of Eomer was torture. This new potion Grima concocted is not any improvement, is it? I bet it even worsenes Theoden's contition... or Looking forward to further chapters (:

Author Reply: Hi Allacaya,

and yet even more chapters for you! I am in a real writing frenzy these days (but then again, the weather in Germany is so vile that you can't really do anything else than sit inside).

I hope you like the latest instalments.

WArm wishes,
Katja

Poor Eomer. Exiled, beaten, stabbed, poisoned, fighting off orcs and wolves - he is definitely not in the greatest of physical and mental shape. Diced and riced this guy keeps trying. I hope you have some healers with miracle medicines coming up. Waiting anxiously for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Hello Rikwen,

the healer is on the way! ;-) And yeah, Éomer would probably agree with you that he has been in better shape than right now. But see it this way: it can't get worse (...can it?).

I love to hate your characterization of Grima. Here he is more than a puppet of Sauraman, a sneaky strategist, willing to sacrifice anything and everyone to accomplish his plans.

You are writing this as if this is a live chess game. Moving the pieces made up of the knights Elfhelm and Ceorl across the board in moves against the Worm. It is going to be interesting to see how secretive they can be before they are discovered.

And Theored talking to Eomer? For a ghost he has some good ideas on getting Eomer in touch with Elfhelm. If one didn't know Theored wasn't really there one could believe that Eomer had found friends to stay with. And a cliffie to keep us on our toes? Can't wait to see what happens.

Rikwen

Author Reply: Hello Rikwen,

great to have you back. :-) Yes, it definitely has the feel of chess. It's fun to write, but on the other hand, I'm really busting my brain cells not to overlook anything. I hope I can keep it up. And re. Théodred: I thought that éomer desperately needed a friend in this situation, plus it makes it easier to write about his plans if I reveal them in a dialogue. The next update will take a few days yet, but be prepared that this wasn't the last cliffhanger ... (I know, I'm evil...)

Thank you for dropping by!
